Visitors to the Wenshan District in Taipei, Taiwan can look forward to visiting the Taipei Zoo during their journey through the area. Animal lovers and adventure seekers are sure to enjoy the expansive location of this zoo as it is one of the largest in Asia. Dedicated to conservation, education, research, and recreation, the Taipei Zoo is a great choice for families who are looking for fun and educational activities for their kids. Sometimes called the “Muzha Zoo,” visitors can see a variety of animals and settings here, including giant pandas, and a designated children’s zoo area.

Be sure to pick up a map from the visitor center before heading into Taipei Zoo! It’s recommended that you plan to be in the park for about three hours. A shuttle train is available for a fee, along with stroller and wheelchair services.

Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (no entry after 4 p.m.; closed on Chinese New Year’s Eve)
Tickets: Prices for adults start at TWD$60 (about USD$2). Many visitors, like children under 6 and adults over 65, can enter the zoo for free. Military officials and students also receive discounts with proper ID.

Location & transportation

The Taipei Zoo is connected to the Taipei Mass Rapid Transit system (also known as the Taipei Metro), and can be accessed at the MRT Taipei Zoo Station stop on the Wenhu Line. As the Taipei Metro is well connected throughout the area, you should be able to take the metro wherever you need to be in Taipei without much trouble. Tickets are available for single trips, or for multiple days and prices will vary depending on the length of time you need.

Taipei also has multiple rail lines, with the Taiwan Rail lines being reserved for local and more frequent stops, while the Taiwan High-Speed Rail trains are used for rapid transit between larger distances. The ticket prices for these trains varies between NT $160 (about $5 USD) to NT $1500 (about $50 USD), depending on the class of the ticket and the distance you want to travel.

Additionally, there are also local and long-distance bus services available for adventurous travelers (NT $15, about $0.50 USD), as well as yellow taxis that charge a flat fee of NT $70 (about $2.25 USD) for the first 0.8mi, plus a surcharge (NT $5, or about $0.15 USD) for every 273 yards after that point. No matter where you need to be, there should be ample transportation available to get you to your destination in Taipei. Don’t be afraid to ask your hotel’s concierge for help before setting out if you are ever unsure about which method of transportation would be best.
