I would recommend this hotel
Most of the staff is wonderful. In particular, Toto seems to know what you need before you tell him. He pops up out of nowhere just when you need him to get cabs. Deaw and Jeep in the restaurant were also most helpful and friendly. If I go back to Chang Mai I will stay at this hotel.

Great location, very clean but aged.
Location is perfect, just inside the old city wall. Walking distance to many restaurants, bars, attractions and the night market. Our room was very clean, however a little aged. Breakfast was pleasant, and staff were very friendly and helpful. Only complaint was we could never get the wifi to work, hence ended up buying a local 4G SIM card.

Fantastic hotel, very helpful staff
We stayed at De Naga hotel a few days ago. We were in a deluxe double and the room was very presentable in traditional thai style, with modern fixtures and a nicely tiled bathroom. The hotel is in a really good central location, right next to Tha Pae gate. There are always tuk tuks and red trucks to take you around outside the hotel. One of the main things we really liked about this hotel was the staff. They were very polite and always available to help us in whatever way they could. They booked the Elephant Nature park for us over the phone when we were having trouble booking on the website. We had major issues with our cash cards in Chiang Mai as they weren't being accepted and were also swallowed by an ATM (Revolut, don't use them in northern Thailand). The manager spoke to the Thai banks for us to try and resolve the problem and arranged a taxi to take us to the shopping mall to withdraw money from the bank. When you're on holiday and things go wrong, it is really reassuring when a hotel does its upmost to help. We had a great time at De Naga and in Chiang Mai and now we're in the Southern Islands have noticed a considerable difference in standards of service- this is a credit to the team at De Naga and the Northern Thai people!

Location, Location, Location
Perfect location, just inside the old wall & moat. A few minutes walk to coffee shops, restaurants & bars. Tuk-tuks & the Chiang Mai equivalent of the Pattaya Baht buses also only a few minutes away, as was a laundry (though one of the two closest apparently closed while we were there - glad we picked up our laundry on their last day!). Pool is small but okay. Smoking area adjacent to the pool but separate. Small staffed bar by the pool. On the down side - antiquated door locks make leaving while your other half is sleeping quite problematic. No way to lock the door without shutting off the A/C & power. The doors don't even have real door knobs so all an intruder has to do is push the door while you're gone & your partner will be in for a big surprise. Internet barely adequate. Breakfast okay with made-to order omelets. Not a huge selection of other stuff but adequate. Overall a good choice with some limitations.

One of the worst service ever
1) Staff said no twin bed room available for the two guys, which we found out they have after we requested to change room due to air conditioning issue. 2) Staff was reluctant to change rooms after confirming there's a problem with the air conditioning (a technician came). We reasoned for a minute that it was difficult to sleep and the staff accepted the change request but was unhappy and was very grumpy taking us to the new room. The process took 1.5 hours where the staff told us on the phone to wait 30 minutes which I believe they have forgotten about us until we approached the staff. 3) Service was not up to the standards that we were paying compared to after hotels
