“Not 3 star but 3 star review ”
OK, so unlike I normally do, I didn't check TripAdvisor until we were 10 minutes away! After reading a few reviews, I was dreading staying there, to be honest. Upon arrival, I could see that the reviews regarding the general upkeep were pretty accurate. This was further confirmed when we got into our room. However, it was spotlessly clean, as were the sheets and towels. We were only staying for one evening, so we could accept it. Staying for longer, though, could be a little depressing, dare I say? Especially if you're used to more luxurious hotels. Now for the positives. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was varied, plentiful and tasty. The views of the gardens down to the lake, even in the rain, were stunning. The dining room itself, though tired, is a lovely room. There is also, a bar area where dogs are allowed. This is a lot more modern and opens into a conservatory with views of the garden. What you need to bear in mind is that the company who owned this hotel went bust during covid. They are up for sale and have been for a few years. I only hope they get a buyer with enough money and vision because it could be beautiful and the location is stunning. In conclusion, if you just need somewhere to lay your head for the night, then I would recommend the hotel. Just don't have too high expectations for the decor!
