A taste of desert!
Nice place, friendly staff but not much to do once there.

Best part! Lying down and facing Sky view at night with the bon fire. Morning hike to catch the sun rise. Camel rides. Dune Basing. Friendly Staff. Decent food. Secluded place.
Good place and would love to visit again.

Nice time in the desert
We met with someone from the camp at the gas station to join the camp as suggested. They say to be there before 2.30pm but actually we left the station at almost 4pm, a bit long with young kids! The way to the camp is quite easy and fast. The camp was nice, especially at night when you can see all the stars, diner and breakfast were good.

Informed us they were overbooked when we arrived for pickup! Stranded in the desert
When we called in the early afternoon, camp informed us we could arrive anytime and were looking forward to our stay for New Years Eve. When we arrived at the pickup point at 7:30pm, we were informed that they had overbooked and they were sending us to another camp. They sent an SMS with a contact number and some basic directions. It was up to us to organize the pickup, leaving us stranded for an hour in Budiyya waiting, hungry, for our new camp to pick us up. The camp they sent us to was not the same standard as Desert Retreat... :( Thanks to Agoda customer service we were able to get a full refund, but we won't get back our New Years Eve !

Nice camp with good food
This camp is not too far from Al-wasil near a sand dune. The food is really good. Tents are ok with real beds and mosquito nets. Bathroom with shower with a view on the sky. But don't expect to see, meet or discuss with bedouins, the camp is entirely operated by Indian expats. We asked for a camel tour but the person with the camels never came. Transport to the camp is really expensive at 25 omr since it's not far in the desert.

Small and friendly, beautiful location!
I was glad I didn't go for one of the bigger commercial camps. The owner is very friendly, the food was good, and the view from the top of the dune spectacular. The campfire at night was a very nice touch too!

Comfortable stay in evocative atmosphere
I really liked to spend a day at Desert Retreat Camp. The camp is in fact in the desert and isolated from other settlements. The tents are spacious enough and are provided with a small lamp and a plug. However, the latter seemed not to work (bring a powerbank, if you can). The beds are comfortable, the open-roof bathroom is clean and actually practical. Overall, considering that it is a camp, the comfort level easily exceeded my expectations, but still not in a way as to jeopardize the atmosphere of isolation and rusticity that I expect from this kind of stay. The dinner buffet was satisfactory in quality, quantity and variety; breakfast is less impressive – however, you won't be left starving. In the afternoon, we also had a welcome snack with fruit and dates. An experience not to miss!
