On the beautiful east coast of Tasmania sits the Diamond Island Resort and Penguin Parade nightly. You can discover nature and rejuvenate yourself all in one place. Its contemporary apartments offer amazing views of the coast. The Pamper Day Spa’s menu includes facial treatments, full body massages, and foot soaks. During low tides, a stroll to Diamond Island is highly recommended. At the resort, penguins are very welcome neighbors all year round. Guests can get up close and observe the little birds in the heated viewing platform. To complete your experience with the native creatures, a five-minute drive from the island will take you to the nature park where the Tasmanian devil is waiting to be discovered.

We're really here to see the penguins”
Everything was fine with the room, it's clean, the bed is comfy, the kitchen is stocked with most things you could need, but be advised there is no wifi in the room. Only in public areas. I also want to share that if you opt to use the hotel's platform for penguin viewing, you cannot see them come up from the beach (if this matters to you). Some birds will walk past the platform on their way to their nest (most birds nest in the rookery just adjacent to the hotel, but some birds nest wherever they like, and sometimes that's in the middle of the small roundabout at the end of the drive). You will see penguins. But the formal tour from in town brings you back to this property, has access to view the penguins as they come up from the beach, and has access to the rookery on crown lands, which hotel guests do not during the evening time the penguins are most active. If management tries to convince you otherwise, at least get a second opinion from the formal tour. As it happened, we had booked the formal tour first, and accommodation second. We didn't go into town just to catch the shuttle back to the hotel, instead we joined the tour down at the beach gate, but make sure you discuss this with the tour company so they know to expect you there. We were thrilled with the formal tour experience, and highly recommend it, especially if you only have one night in Bicheno. And if you are staying on the hotel property, you can hear the penguins chattering amongst themselves throughout the night from your room. It's not a disturbing volume, but I would wake up a little at times, hear them, smile to myself and go back to sleep.
Carrie you appear to advertise the other tour operator while staying here at the resort, ( no photos allowed, and no torches, you stand in the dark) you are just plain wrong on several issues, the only place you can take photos is from our platform, which is recommended by parks and wildlife. we can access the beach others can't, we allow 1 hour for them to do their tour, after this we go to the beach and sometimes to the island at night, the little penguins do walk through the resort grounds up to the bush area top side of the resort. We live with the little penguins, all day and every night, the other tour operator only come here for an hour at night. By the way we cater for elderly and wheelchair bound people, from our rooms to the platform area, room for all to enjoy.
Having a wonderful night at Bicheno”
It is a very nice moment to stay at Bicheno diamond Resort. We meet Jamie who is the staff of Resort, He is so friend and try to solve all the problem we sufffered. Firstly, I make a wrong book which need double charge and non-refundable. He help ask to clarify the matter and finally problem solved. In addition, we got a awesome dinner at the restaurant where is so fansy! and Jamie offer us a little discount. Many tourist felt disappointed as the peguin is not as much as the promotion video shown. I think the peguin got a delay. 8pm would be much suitable for tourist to see the little peguin parade.
Resort of My Dream”
It is a resort of my dream. Just 5 mins drive from Bicheno downtown area, the resort is located along the beach. The resort room is well-decorated with balcony facing the sea, good for taking a sip of wine and enjoying the lovely sunset. The room is self-contained that we can do cooking in the kitchen. At night, there is tour to guide you to trace the fairy tales. Free of charge for guests staying at the resort.
Being neighbors with penguins!”
Bicheno is a small peaceful town, but where I wouldn't really recommend to others except for this penguin tour, which residents in this resort get it free. Waiting for the penguins to come back go shore at night is so much fun, and you will also hear their voice the while night! Funny experience! The view is specular, breakfast is normal but it's good enough that its included in the tariff isn't it?
Why paid extra if you can have two for the price of one?? Best attraction of Diamond Island Resort is the on site penguins watching. The owner was very good and lay down the best guidelines before the penguins came in. When I was there, the owner had just taken over the resort and had just started renovation. Hope all is well as this is really a wonderful place.
Excellent view and surroundings”
the staff are helpful and the service was excellent. we were introduced to all the facilities and even made us a coffee latte while we waiting for our room key ! the room is excellent and the view was great. the highlight of the stay was the penguin parade at night. in general everything was great and staff are lovely
Made our Freycinet trip extra special”
I booked here for a night during our travel to Freycinet area and our only regret was we did not book another night! We love love love the place and staff! The attendants were very accommodating and helpful, the accommodation itself - room has all the comforts and luxuries we needed, the view from our room and balcony, the white and fine sand beach and the most unique experience of all was the penguin viewing that night and knowing that penguins were staying with us all over the property. I mentioned to them while booking as well that our travel this time is to celebrate my partner's bday and the manager and staff gladly sorted cake for us in the room. The gesture was really sweet. We cannot wait to come back with friends and family and stay here again. I can definitely recommend this place. There was a swimming pool too and we can imagine how good it will be to stay here during summer.
My husband and I chose this hotel was because it provides a free penguin tour on its private beach. The room is really nice and the hotel environment is good. For the penguin tour, we were leaded to a stand located at the bottom of the hill. With the weak red lights, we saw many groups of penguins heading to their nests. We thought it was perfect if we could see them swimming back to the coast on the beach. After the tour dismissed, we still had chance to stay longer to get closer to the penguins. But please respect wildlife, don’t get too close to them and do not use flash if taking photos. We do recommend this hotel if you wish to see the lovely penguins in Bicheno.
there are many positive things about diamond island resort. the restaurant is impressive. our room had two stories: ground floor had the kitchenette, lounge, dining area and bathroom, and the first floor had the two bedrooms. during low tide you can walk to diamond island which is about a ten minute walk. you can see where the penguins burrow and it's a bit rocky. my only concerns were that the bread in our room's breadmaker was not in good condition. the room is showing a bit of wear and tear. the host is friendly in arranging a night watch for penguin. but we only saw not more than 5 penguins which was very disappointed.
The location is great because we can watch the penguin parade from the backyard for free, and the girl who gave explanation about them is excellent. The lady at the reception is also really kind and nice. But I think the price via agoda is to high. We came during summer, and the flowers are blooming. Beautiful. Bathroom is a bit smelly tough.
the penguin tour at night is amazing. actually the penguin is just live in the resort...they will come to visit your door too. this feeling is so nice. and the view is amazing. but it may be cold as it is just next to the sea. recommend you to buy food to cook in resort~~`
Lovely and very modern Room with great view”
The room is fantastic, which is very modern, bed is very very comfortable, bath facilities is well equipped and with great sea view! The other facilities in the hotel is also well maintained. The breakfast is fine. The Kitchen is also great. The staff is friendly and very patient on the penguin tour. The Tour is great, really very close to the lovely penguin. A must stay hotel for a Tasamania trip!
Huge room, little fairy penguins at your garden”
The hotel is nicely located where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the ocean and see little fairy penguins going back to their nests from the ocean after sunset. The hotel provides free penguin tour as well as another tour with charges which enables you to see penguins closely. We didn't pay to join any tour but we were lucky to spot a few penguins walking across our balcony in the garden. Room is huge, clean with a king-sized bed, dining table, fully equipped kitchen. Quick check in and check out. One drawback though, only continental breakfast is provided. With it's room rate, I think hot dishes like eggs, susages etc should be provided.
Terrific resort in a great location”
I wish I had stayed longer at this lovely resort. Highlights were the great food at the restaurant, wonderful pristine beach and excellent view of the penguins with Robert giving very good commentary. Definitely try to going during summer so you can enjoy the beach. Rooms have a good kitchenette so you can cook your own food, if necessary.
Beautiful Gem on the Coast”
beautiful surroundings- the island, the penguins, the space, the restaurant. This place is amazing. We stayed one night, but would have liked to have stayed longer if we had the time. The beach shack was very spacious, with all the amenities you need. Warm, homey and colourful. Was definitely a highlight of our trip!
Nice view can see penguins and nice room”
Highly recommended for apartment , can see penguins and sheeps. Nice design modern apartment despite a long drive from us but it s worth to go there. See the sunrise at the beach side is a very good experience. Must try if u can wake up T around six. Overall the apartment is a very nice resort with kitchen that can let u cook by you self and enjoy the natural life
Lovely beachside hotel ”
A wonderful stay at the resort. The rooms were well designed with a lovely backyard extending to the grass area and a short walk to the beach. Would be better if the rooms were even cleaner. We had a great time watching the penguins which were in close proximity. Lovely continental breakfast too.
Penguins so cute and beautiful beach location!”
The penguins came right up to the viewing platform and also around the grounds. They were so cute! The beach the resort sits on is beautiful. Very spacious and nice outside area. The location is very nice. We enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely stay again.
Lovely resort..enjoyed walking to the island. Had a problem with our booking where we were confirmed on a phone call immediately after my booking that we had either an ajoing room or 2 separate cabins as ther was one couple and 2 single ladies. We were surprised to have a double room and 2 single beds all upstairs which meant the couple had to pass us if they wanted to use the bathroom in the night. we adapted and was told many friends like to have the one cabin, but when I looked up the receipt to find for 2 nights we felt something was wrong. but this isn't half and we felt this wasn't our fault. But haowever ,the resort is a fabulous place and we enjoyed our stay. We have travelled extensively together and with others as we are an art group and we always check the sleeping arrangements.Hoping this comment can save confusion for other groups
Nice apartment with penguins”
We had a nice one night stop. Unfortunately no penguins swimming in where we were there but the owner is looking after an orphan at the moment. Charlie was so cute and it was nice to see him recovering. the ownr is very passionate about the penguins which was good to see.
Take a look at these facilities:
