My wife and I stayed here in 2009 and had a great memory. Eleven years later on January 23,2020, we made it a point to stay at the hotel again just to relive the great memory we experienced. However. It was not the same. Front desk was having an issue with its computer reception of unable to approve my credit card causing a long delay and importantly made it seem as though I had no money on my card. It was an embarrassment for me in front of my friend when in fact it was the hotel reception and not my card. All and all, hotel is still reasonably ok for the money.

Service leaves more to be desired ”
Staff is unresponsive, you have to ask more than twice (and this is not just about the language barrier). They seem untrained and unprepared for special requests like a flat iron and ironing board, or a simple request for a cake to be done. They even wanted to charge me for extra bottles of water. Sigh.

Great Deal for a High Quality Laotian Hotel”
I stayed at the Don Chan Palace Hotel & Convention for one day during my layover in Vientiane and I wish it was longer. The staff was nice and greeted me well as I entered the hotel and took me and my luggage to my room with no problem, even though the hotel was huge. I enjoyed a spacious and luxurious (for Laos standards) hotel at a nice price with air conditioning and wifi coming to me in my room with no problem. The hotel is situated at a nice location in Vietiane, walking distance from the main boulevard, but it has a huge frontal property that you have to traverse before you get to the front door of the hotel building. The lobby and rooms were nicely designed and aesthetic. I had no problems with black outs during my stay. I found the free breakfast really nice and contained a good amount of variety for a buffet. It kept with the 5-star quality of the hotel. I will be sure to stay at the Don Chan Palace Hotel & Convention again on my next stay in Vientiane.

A quiet place by the river”
Despite a little rundown, and probably at a good 4* level and not 5*, Don Chan Palace is an excellent value for money choice. We had a room on the 11th floor with panoramic view over river Mekong & the view of the most amazing sunsets. Rooms are large and despite furniture being old they are well maintained and clean. Breakfast is exquisite and offers a large variety of both European and Asian dishes - while some are cooked for you on the spot. Dining in the hotel is a good option as it offers a diverse selection of foods (this is for the main hotel restaurant, there is also a Chinese restaurant which we didn’t try) at a very good value. There is a decently equipped gym & a swimming pool. Location might not be for everyone but it works if you are looking for a quiet base while exploring Vientiane. The hotel offers a shuttle bus to the city centre that runs every 2 hours, from 10am until 8pm (last pick up from the city centre is at 8.15pm) – it is an approximate 20’ – 25’ walk from the hotel to the city centre

Relaxing”
My husband and I stayed four nights at the Don Chan Palace in Vientiane and it was lovely. We were in Room 1221 on the 12th floor overlooking the city. Even though we booked this hotel on Agoda as it said it was on the riverfront, it really is not. The river can be seen from the swimming pool area and that's about it. However, there aren't many negative things to say about this hotel. Check in and check out took less than 5-10 minutes as there was no one else. There was a variety of Western and Asian food for breakfast. The Malaysian chef was very friendly. The Head Chef was English and was new to the hotel. A few of the waitresses had a very poor command of English but they were very helpful. My husband and I loved the Lobby area as it is huge enough to do ballroom dancing. There is a cake and coffee shop in the Lobby area and it's very cheap. The hotel provides free shuttle bus every hour to the fountain area in town and picks you up at the same place. You have to book the shuttle bus to use it. It was the Laos Buddhist New Year while we were there and it was good of the Hotel Management to advise us to take care of our belongings when we went out as people were throwing water. If you like loud music and looking for a bar, there is one opposite the hotel called "April 12". We never went there but could hear the music thumping loud which stopped about midnight. The hotel is quite far from the downtown area which didn't bother us as Vientiane is very quiet and not too much to sightsee. There is a small restaurant adjacent to the hotel (when you cross the bridge and turn right) which serves great food. They have a bar in the restaurant as well. TIP: On your departure day, do not hire any taxis and spend unecessary money as the hotel provides free shuttle van to the airport as well which was great. The swimming pool was clean.

Nice, clean and confortable hotel with good view o”
I was in Vientiane for business and I found the Don Chan Palace Hotel very clean and well managed. The staff was very friendly and helpful in arranging for transportation when I had to go to meetings. The hotel offered free bicycles, which my wife and I used to bike along the riverside and around the city. They have a very good fitness center, with a full complement of weights and equipment and helpful attendant. The only problem I encountered was the WiFi signal was not strong on the upper floor where we stayed. Other than poor WiFi signal the stay was excellent.

Good hotel”
Visa trip from Thailand. Would do it the same way again with a one night stay in the Don Chan Palace. The disco on the third floor is one of the very few spots in Vientiane to go out. I liked to simply go upstairs from there after the disco. Very convenient. Also, the view over the river is beautiful.

don chan on the mekong”
Was originally planning to stay near town center, but Don Chan had a great rate through Agoda. Although it is a large hotel, staff were all attentive and willing to assist on all levels. Pool was covered which was a good thing since it is very hot in Vientianne, and fitness center was replete with various exercise equipment. Also included sauna and steam room, though sauna was inop some days. Price included breakfast serving Asian and Western and other international dishes. Rooms were well appointed and comfortable, including a balcony on Mekong river side. Would stay here again.

Courteous Atmosphere”
Arrived from Van Vieng hot and dusty but Don Chan reception staff made us welcome with a quick and hassle-free registration. Room was up to expectations with good view over Mekong River. Every thing in room worked well, air-con, fridge shower ect. (unlike other hotels during Lao Trip) Request for iron was also no problems. Breakfast food good & plenty available. Our stay was for 3 nights and while we walked to & from hotel to town a couple of times it realy is a bit out of the action and activity of Vientiane city. Taxis wanted 350/400 kip for one way trip but with some haggling can get for 200kip hotel shutle is available but on set schedule which is posted on board in reseption. Would stay at Hotel again if clean and efficent service is your priority but would seek closer location if you want everything at fingertips.

beautiful stay in Vientane”
I found Don Chan on the Agoda website. I made hotel reservation and payment just a few hours before (12 PM) and i checked in without problems at 10 AM. The hotel is a gourgeus building on a Mekong island, not so far from city center. Room rates are quite affortable, quality is very high. This hotel is a great choice for a stop over in Ventiane. You can also use it as a base for a short trip in Ventiane province. I spent 8 days in that hotel, very relaxing. The river promenade is just few minutes walk (you just have to cross the little bridge) and is plenty of very nice restaurants and street food kiosks.

Don Chan Palace”
The Don Chan Palace is overall a very nice hotel, the staff are extremely courteous and helpful. The nightclub in the hotel is about the only place to drink after 12.30am in Vientiane so you can always find something going on after hours. The internet charges ($16/day) seem a bit excessive in this day and age when most hotels include it for free.

A typical 4-5 star”
The location of the Don Chan Palace Hotel is central and the food is great and free transport is provided to the airport upon departure. The internet rates are too expensive and the prices for food and alcohol are very expensive compared to the prices found nearby. Getting taxis from this hotel can also be a problem, although Tuk-Tuks can be obtained farly easily by walking the main road. This hotel is OK for a short stay if the Green Park Boutique Hotel is full.

A pleasurable stay in a grande hotel in Laos”
This Grand hotel creates a great impression of the larger hotels of older colonial times, especially if your arrival is at night. By day it is a few minutes walk from the main tourist and commerce area. Prepare to dodge the visiting convoy of fast moving limousines and police escorts along the drive to the hotel, if you have walked into the township as wealthy business people and visitors tend tend to make this their home away from home. Impressions of the place being in need of a partial make over and a good scrub were probably influenced by the lack of substantial rainfall for some considerable time coinciding with our visit. Staff are impeccable in their manners and professionalism and have strong talents in the concierge department. Good food and a nice functional pool and sauna to help work off the calories. Yes, I will return to the Don Chan Palace Hotel in Vientiane.

Expensive full service”
Don chan palace is a good choice for the business travel or to hold a convention at. For the common tourist you are better off in a smaller hotel near town. If you are on a family vacation Don chan is not a bad choice. When I stayed it felt as if I was the only guest there. The place was empty. The disco at night is the place to go after midnite.
