Cozy hotel at a great location”
Picked Dormy Inn Ueno Okachimachi as it had rave reviews and because the hot spring looked inviting. We were not disappointed. The hotel was well located, the room clean and cozy. Everything was generally small but comfortable and very clean. Hot spring is good for a soak in the cold weather. Service was warm and courteous . I had actually emailed them in advance to ask if they could provide a simple room deco as it was my gf's birthday. There was no reply, but we were pleasantly surprised with a box of instant ramen and a little note when we checked into our room - Thanks, guys :) Price point could be better but we had a great stay. There was however a not so pleasant encounter with a male staff manning the counter the night before we left - We had a late flight the next day, so wanted to check whether a late check out could be arranged. The immediate reply by the male staff was that it could be arranged at a cost. This is of course understandable, but what irked us was his demeanour when attending to us. He was practically rolling his eyeballs with each reply and each reply had a hint of impatience and disdain - this was certainly not a reaction we expected to a polite enquiry and was a total opposite of the fantastic service we had encountered to-date. Just wish to mention this as we hope that no undeserving guest will be subjected to this sort of attitude.
Great Clean Hotel in Good location”
I definitely feel that I chose a great hotel for the following reasons: 1) This hotel is brand new, opened early in 2015, which meant that everything is new and clean. This hotel was the CLEANEST hotel I've ever been in all my travels. The bathroom was so clean, I did not see a speak of mildew! 2) Great location! I loved that this hotel was right near Ameyokocho shopping streets. I loved walking around the localized small shop areas and there were many restaurants in the area. 3) Proximity to trains and airport train (Skyliner to Narita). There were two JR stations and two Metro stations within walking distance of this hotel. And a big factor for me is proximity to the airport train - which was the Skyliner at Keisei Ueno station (not Narita Eepress which is accessible via Toyko Station). Most tourists know about the Narita Express but not the Skyliner train to Narita. Skyliner is much less crowded and slightly cheaper and is accessed in Ueno. 4) I took advantage of the public bath. The bath soak was comfortable and much needed after a long day of exploring. I did not take advantage of the free ramen noodles they serve at night because I was out all day and came back to the hotel after 11pm. But these two amenities/services were great bonuses. Overall, I was very happy with Dormy Inn at Ueno Okachimachi. The staff was helpful, the front desk spoke English well enough. They also spoke Mandarin. I was able to leave my luggage at the hotel for a few hours after checking out to explore. Room size was good for a solo traveler. I was expecting super tiny rooms, but the room I had was just right. There are many Pros, but one con is that they only have one elevator and it might take awhile at peak times, but this shouldn't be a deal breaker.
Good value for a base of operations in Tokyo”
We stayed 6 nights at Dormy Inn Ueno, and it served as our base of operations in Tokyo. The location was conveniently located near Okachimachi Station and the Yamanote Line which allowed us to easily get around. The staff is friendly and speaks English. They were kind enough to help me call and inquire about concert tickets when I requested and said I didn't speak Japanese. The room size was comparable to other hotels in the price range, and the public bath was very nice. I have only a few complaints. For some reason, housekeeping never removed our excess trash bags during our stay. Trash began to pile up in a corner of the room. Perhaps they didn't realize it was trash since they did clean out the trash bins. Also, the light near the room entrance is motion-activated and kind of drove me insane with its constant switching on/off whenever I stood by the sink to brush my teeth. They also only have one elevator that services 12 floors which can be a wait. The stairs are for emergencies.
Excellent Choice for Solo Traveler”
My stay at the Dormy Inn Ueno Okachimachi was entirely positive. (1) The location was perfect. I had easy access to the Keisei Line (to Narita), the Yamanote Line, and three subway lines. I also liked the Ameyoko neighborhood next to the hotel. (2) The room was small, but very functional, sort of like a well laid out single room on a cruse ship. (3) I had no problem with street noise. That may be because I was in Room 1112, which is one of the few rooms facing away from the highway. (4) I recommend electing to have breakfast at the hotel. I thought that the breakfast was much better than some others have described it. (5) The staff was polite and helpful. (6) My only qualm about the hotel was the fact that it has only one elevator. That was not a problem when the elevator was running. But it will be disastrous when the elevator inevitably breaks down. I’m not sure that I would had the fortitude to walk up the stairs to my room on the 11th floor.
Great location, great service. ”
As a solo traveler I often end up with a small, cramped room. Not this time! Dormy Inn gave me a large, comfortable room with a nice view. Facilities were clean and well organised, the staff friendly and helpful. The security system for the public baths was excellent. I particularly liked that you could choose when your cleaning was done. Washing machines are free and you could even keep track of your washing/drying via the television. Dormy Inn is located close to Ueno Station so you can easily get to virtually anywhere in Tokyo and beyond. I enjoyed my stay at the Dormy Inn Okachimachi and would definitely choose to stay there again next time I’m in Tokyo.
Another Wonderful Stay”
This was my second stay at the Dormy Inn Ueno Okachimachi. As before, everything went perfectly. I like the location, because it gives me maximum access to very forms of public transportation, particularly the Yamanote Line, the Ginza Line, th Hibiya Line, and the Keisei Skyliner. I also have come to appreciate the restaurants and other services in Ueno. My room was immaculate and well-designed, albeit very small -- somewhat like a cabin on a luxury cruise ship. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were excellent. As before, my only problem with the hotel is that it has only one elevator. I worry about what would have happened if the elevator were to have malfunctioned. (My room was on the ninth floor.)
Dear sir, thank you for having stayed at our hotel. We highly appreciate for your great comments toward us!! Sorry for the size of the room which you've stayed, it might have made you feel uncomfortable. Yet, we offer the difference size of the room so next time you will feel more comfortable!! We really look forward to seeing you at our hotel again! DormyInn Ueno Okachimachi Murakami
Great location + amenities”
Convenient to both Ueno and Okachimachi stations, this Dormy Inn was a great base to explore not only Ameyoko but the rest of Tokyo too. The room was clean and the housekeeping staff was super friendly and efficient, they made sure we had everything we needed. This location also had a communal bath on the 12th floor, which was great for relaxing after tons of walking. Also, every night between 930-11pm, you could go to the main floor and get a bowl of shoyu ramen + tea for free. I would definitely stay at Okachimachi Dormy Inn again, it was a great base of operations.
Thank you for staying at our DormyInn Ueno Okachimachi. We are so pleased with your warm and kind comments and cannot be happier. Please try breakfast next time you visit. It is served different types of foods depending on each season such as onigiri and Japanese Oden. We hope to see you again! DormyInn Ueno Okachimachi Murakami
Ideal accommodation for travelers ”
Ueno is a great place who don't want to stay at the crowded area such as shibuya or ginza. Price in this area are much more cheaper and most of the items you look for can be find here too. Dormy inn Ueno is very convenient and only 5 mins walking distance to Ueno JR station and keisei ueno station(skyliner destination). I love the public bath most because it can release my tiredness everyday. Especially when I enter the changing area of the public bath, the hotel has prepared all the things you need, comb, toner, lotion, cotton, shower cap, etc. You don't have to bring ur own bath amenities because the hotel provides the best. The only thing is the room is so small, but worth with this price. I think semi-double and double do not have much difference then I select semi-double. Overall, everything is great. I will consider to stay at dormy inn again on my next visit to Japan.
A Well-Located Hotel in Ueno”
The rates for this hotel fluctuates quite a bit. On a good rate, the hotel has really good value for money, with a nice hot spring-style bath upstairs, complimentary noodles & drinks and a very nicely designed room despite the tight space. On the higher floors, the corner room I stayed in have a partial view of the Tokyo Skytree which was a pleasant nice surprise on New Year's Eve. I had a comfortable sleep and the room's very well maintained. Location-wise, the hotel's excellent, with easy access to Okachimachi Station and Ueno Stations on the Tokyo Metro network. It is also near Ueno Stations on the JR Line (to tap on the JR network to make day trips to Karuizawa or Saitama etc) and Keisei Line which provides easy access to Narita Airport via the Keisei Skyliner.
Conveniently located and easy to get around.”
We wanted to stay in Ueno and decided to give Dormy Inn a go. We've heard good reviews about Dormy Inn in general and was very pleased with our stay. The hotel is conveniently located about a 3-5min walk from Jr Ueno station and is very clean, there's a 24hour convenience store right beside the hotel. Cheap and good food is easily available around the neighborhood. The spa located on the top floor is a great way to unwind after a long day of walking, not forgetting the warm soba noodles they serve in the evening. I would definitely recommend this place for young adults looking to explore Ueno and the less touristy parts of Tokyo. Thank you for the comfortable stay!
Pro - great location for Ueno area regarding transportation, eating, and shopping. The design of this hotel is very compact yet efficient. We also like the availability of a hot spring on top floor. Con - there are no Twin rooms in this site, and the double bed is too small (narrower than a queen size bed) for two people. The hot spring room is not properly cleaned. Every time I went (3 nights), there were hairs on the floor. We have stayed in other two Dormy inns in Osaka and Kyoto before. This one was the least cleaned in hot spring area.
Great location, friendly staff and great facilities ”
We had 3 nights at the hotel. Very friendly staffs who can speak mandarin. Very good location, few min walking distance to okachimachi station and ueno station. Every night there’s delicious ramen and their breakfast are decent and nice too. Their room is good for 2 adults. Clean and nice shower. Reasonable size for Tokyo. Their hot spring is new well maintained and clean. I went there 2 out of 3 nights during my stay. Will definitely like to stay there again if I visit Tokyo
Great small hotel in lively neighborhood of Ueno”
Conveniently located near Ueno station of submay & Metro. Directly go to/from Narita airport by Keisei skyliner (it's the fastest transport so far from Tokyo center to airport). In Ueno, you can explore the lively Ameyoko street market with great shopping, restaurants, and nightlife. Otherwise, you can also take the JR city loop line (Yamanote) to anywhere you want around central Tokyo. Room condition and facility are superb. It is brand new, cozy and elegantly designed. Bed is really comfy. Although the room is not very large, you have everything you need in there. Public hot spring bath (Onsen) is also provided for free on the top floor. Breakfast has good enough variety. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in here. Wish the check-in time could be a bit more flexible because we arrived in Tokyo quite early in the morning flight and they didn't permit early check-in. But I guess it's the Japanese strict culture of punctuality.
Great location and good value of money!”
We stayed at Dormy Inn Ueno for 3 nights, the best of it would be the location. You can get around easily by reaching different stations within 5-10mins walk. The free late night ramen and hot spring, sauna melt us in the freezing Tokyo night. The room is small but well equipped. We will stay again next time when visiting Tokyo for sure!
Convenient, functional, straightforward, with a nice touch of free supper”
In the middle of a very touristy Ueno. 4 minutes away from JR Okachimachi station and Naka-okachimachi station. 5 minutes walk from Ueno Park. Room is small, just like any Tokyo hotel. The room has a sliding door that separates the bed, the writing table, and the toilet, the washing basin. It helped to keep out the light if another person is sleeping. There is onsen and sauna at the rooftop. It has two small pools which could fit maximum two persons each. The onsen features “super-soft water” which is almost void of any minerals, making it very moisturising (according to the hotel description). There is free ramen soup every night. Simple, but it was a nice touch. We requested late check out but it was only possible at a fee. I guess this is the usual in Japan?
Thank you chooed Domi Hotel much of hotels in Tokyo. We are honored to see you have a very pleasant stay. Yes, there is a charge for late check-out or early check-in in Japan. Thank you your evaluation of the hotel during your busy schedule. welcome next time. DormyInn Ueno Okachimachi Chou
Great hot spring in the city”
Very nice location at Ueno, walking distance to all popular spots. The big reason I chose Dormy Inn because the hot spring which is very good with decent size. All Dormy Inn provide free ramen before midnight which is my favorite. They have very good breakfast and clean modern rooms. Love Dormy Inn!
Good hotel with very good nearby amenities.”
The location of the hotel is very good as it is accessible by 3 Tokyo Metro stations (Ueno-okachimachi, Ueno-hirokoji and Naka-okachimachi) and 2 JR stations (Okachimachi and Ueno). There is also a Keisei-ueno station (besides Ueno JR station), where you can take the Skyliner to the Narita Airport in 41 minutes! The hotel has a free Onsen for relaxation (public bath) and they also provide free ramen service (at 21.30 pm) for their guests. The Ameyoko Market is just below the hotel and the Ueno Zoo (located at Ueno Park) is just nearby. It is a good place for shopping and dining. I will stay at this hotel when I visit Japan again.
Great location, great price”
Located a short five minute walk from JR and Keisei Ueno stations - a quick 40 minutes from Narita Airport on the Keisei Skyliner, this hotel provides a great base from which to explore Tokyo. The small rooms are well planned and perfect for a solo traveller, but they may be a bit cramped for couples though. Dormy Inn hotels all provide a simple but delicious breakfast for ¥600, free noodle soup in the evenings and public bathing facilities to soak away the day's aches. Three good reasons for me to be a repeat customer.
Highly recommended budget hotel in Ureno, Tokyo ”
Near but not in the vicinity of Ureno Metro or JR stations, convenient and quiet environment. The restaurant also provides free ramen for travelers, although we may have dinners somewhere in Tokyo and no empty stomach for the noodles, appreciate that. The hot spring is fantastic when you have walked a lot in the city. Notwithstanding the room is very tiny, the affordable price is in fact one of the determining factors to choose this hotel. While all the staff are very polite and helpful, I'll reside there again when I visit Tokyo next time. Furthermore, Dormy Hotel is very close to Ameya Yokocho and other tourist attractions, highly recommend it to the Tokyo lovers.
Excellent value, ideal location, Onsen was wonderful”
The Dormy Inn could not have been in a better location with too many restaurant options to suit all prices and needs. Transport to all of Tokyo within short walking distance, Ueno Park and many museums too. The Onsen was small but very clean and so easy to access. Noodles in the evening and an excellent breakfast also made it very good value for money.
