“Booked Room for 3 persons with Breakfast but no bed provided for 3rd guest.”
I booked 2 rooms via Agoda for check-in on 17 August 2025 and check-out on 19 August 2025. One (1) room was for 3 pax with breakfast for my 3 sisters and the other room was for 2 pax with breakfast for my wife and I via Agoda. Based on booking details, we expected one of the 2 rooms to accommodate 3 persons. Upon check-in, we were asked to pay RM112.00 extra per night for an extra bed when our Agoda booking was clearly for 3 persons with breakfast. Our Agoda booking also included 'Hotel Credit', 'Free Premium Wifi' (which I later found out is chargeable at RM15.00 but never provided nor explained to us that we could use it without incurring any additional charge on our bill. Early check-in and late check-out was also promised under its stated “Benefits” on the booking slip. We got the late check-out at 1.00 pm though 2.00 pm would have been better. For early check-in, I requested for the earliest time possible for early check-in but was met with cookie cutter excuses via email as to why they may not be able to accommodate an early check-in request. Then why provide “Early Check-in” as a stated “Benefit”? A simple response like “You can check-in earliest at say (for example) 2.00 pm would have been more acceptable to me rather than reasons why they can’t accommodate an early check-in request which the Hotel itself promises via the Booking Slip. Hotel 'credit' which is one of the stated “Benefits” of our booking to me means cash credit to use for in-house F & B, but the Front Office man said it was a 25% discount on Food & Beverage. ***On a positive note, on Monday, 18 August at Makan Kitchen, a bespectacled Indian gentleman (unfortunately, we did not get his name) who appeared to actually care about guest comfort engaged in a conversation with me and my wife and we told him about my 3 sisters having to rough it out in a bed for 2 when we had actually booked online for 3 persons for their room. He very kindly arranged for a complimentary extra bed and amenities for the 2nd night for the 3rd person. Now that was the Hilton hospitality that my wife and I were used to when we were at Hilton PJ, Penang and JB Doubletree properties. Kudos to this gentleman, truly a Hilton man with guest comfort first and foremost in mind. The breakfast was delightful as in all Hilton properties we have been privileged to stay at. It's time for Hilton to check their terms given via Agoda bookings and live by it. The front office people appear blur about what should be rightfully given to guests and follow a downright laissez faire approach to guest comfort. In Singapore and most other hotels, a 3-person booking includes bed and not just breakfast. That is a sneaky way to garner more revenue from Agoda booking guests by imposing a RM112 fee per night for an extra bed that should already be provided by Doubletree Hilton Melaka in the first place. We were also placed in Rooms *** and Room *** knowing full well that rectification work was being done to room ***. No doubt we were informed by front office after breakfast on 18 August 2025 about it but seriously, do Hilton front office staff expect a courteous guest to say 'no'? All renovation work should have been deferred to another day when all the affected rooms were vacant. The hotel was not even operating at capacity. This calculative mindset reflects the mind of the leader whoever that might be. Certainly not the mindset I have seen at Hilton properties outside Melaka. Overall, we are simple folk who still somewhat enjoyed our stay though I do feel that we were being shortchanged by the absolute lack of clarity and integrity on wording of Hilton Melaka’s communicated terms via Agoda when bookings are made. Hilton should make it clear that beds are not provided for the 3rd guest or just don’t provide for a 3rd guest at all when bookings are made. All
