A 100-year-old traditional Japanese inn that has been renovated with modern facilities and reimagined as a conceptual ryokan, Dozen Ryokan is a small ryokan run by a group of friendly staff members. They will help you with all of your needs during your stay in Kyoto, whether it is making restaurant reservations, giving sightseeing suggestions, or helping with travel requests!
All rooms are air conditioned and feature tatami-lined floors and futon bedding. Guests are provided with free toiletries, bath and face towels, and yukata. Hair dryers, iron, and additional bathroom amenities are available upon request. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. Coin laundry facilities are available. Guests will be offered a free breakfast every morning in the first floor café. All rooms are private, and showers and bathrooms are shared with other Dozen Ryokan guests.

well, The stay was a nice experience. I will not do it for more than one night! It was very difficult to sleep on the floor. From the pictures I thought the futon will be a little thicker. It was cold in the room for us. I am glad we experienced it but I will not do it again.
Good for location, but definitely a hostel feel.”
Booked thinking it would be more of a traditional ryokan. It was more of a hostel. Staff was excellent though. I did pay about the same for other hotels in japan with private bathrooms, nice beds, and bigger rooms just to note. Biggest gripe is the value.
Very helpful staff and great facilities”
Our train from Nagoya to Takayama was cancelled (damaged track), we had to book the bus and couldn't speak Japanese. Haruka helped us book the bus, she went above and beyond her normal duties to call the bus company twice. She even printed out the information and map for us and texted me to inform me of the details. I am grateful to her helpfulness and highly recommend this ryokan.
The most expensive stay during 14 day trip with the least value for money. Bread for breakfast moldy, towel dirty. Shared bathroom and toilet hardly clean. Same for the room: a hairpin of preceding guests indicates negligent cleaning, the tatami smelled. A receipt neither during checkin nor checkout was not given. Room Very loud for thin paper walls to other guest's rooms and loud street. We had such fantastic hotels during 14 day's trip in Tokio & Kyoto, especially in Kyoto's Gion neighborhood, but this one was just a big fail. However well placed close to JR station for trips to Osaka, Nara, Hiroshima, Miyajama etc. Would not recommend.
Nice and quiet ryokan to experience the traditional japanese stay”
pros: -friendly and english speaking staff -japanese tatami + yukata + futon (traditional japanese-style stay) -around 8 mins walk from the main KYOTO station -24x7 'Family Mart' around the corner cons: -breakfast is same, simple and limited everyday (miso soup/rice/bread/tea/coffee/fruit)
everything is good and well-prepared ”
We spent 4 days in Kyoto. This is very close to Kyoto Station just 10 mins walk. The building is very new with Ryokan style. The breakfast is buffet. Rice or Bread and juice , Coffee. The room was very clean including the toilet. I hope to visit again Overall, Very GOOD
Cozy traditional ryokan”
We enjoyed our stay at Dozen Ryokan! Although the building is quite old, it was very comfortable and cozy. Every aspect of our stay was well taken care of. The ryokan prepares a simple but delicious breakfast every morning. Location is perfect as it is walking distance from Kyoto station, we can take the last train back and walk to the ryokan. Generally a comfortable stay.
Excellent Ryokan Close to fhe Station”
We were a group of 5, placed in one large but very comfortable room. The ryokan is just a very close walk from the station, the staff speak excellent English, the rooms, loo and showers are very clean, and there is a free water from the dispenser upstairs. Finally, the rice breakfast was divine! Definitely will be my choice for a budget accommodation in Kyōto.
We stayed two nights and had a wonderful time. The man who did our check-in was very kind and helpful, and spoke excellent English. The room was a nice size, very clean and well maintained. The bathrooms were clean, and the breakfast was very tasty. The location was central to everything and very close to Kyoto station. I would absolutely recommend staying here.
Super great staff, very clean. Never had to wait for any shower, sink, shower etc. made sharing easy, Central location. Decent breakfast in a lovely room. Def stay here if you want a ryokan experience
Lovely traditional ryokan”
If i was not mistaken, the hotel is already 100 years old, however it is well maintained therefore the building is still remained on a good shape. The receptionist who checked me in was not as friendly as other hotels we had in japan, but other staffs were really lovely! - one person’s fault doesnt ruin your stay, right? Location is only 5 minutes walk from the main station, although you need to venture into an alley to find your accommodation. The ryokan provides very simple buffet breakfast, both japanese and western. Dont expect many selections!
Great location, huge room, nice experience.
Traditional except for their modern showers. A very good place to stay! Would recommend to everyone
A pleasant stay”
Location was ok and room was acceptable. Good thing our stay came with breakfast. Overall, a pleasant stay.
A good place to stay to explore the beauty of Kyoto.”
The place is located close (10 min walking) to Kyoto Station (a key spot to easily reach all the main attractions in Kyoto using the public transportations). Staff very nice and professional, place clean and cozy. A good choice where to stay while visiting Kyoto.
Great taste of the traditional ryokan experience”
Good location, walking distance to Kyoto Station and convenience store down the street. Our room had plenty of space and we enjoyed the traditional feel of the room! Breakfast was great and the staff were very helpful and accommodating.
The room was nice and clean. We had one for ourselves and a key so we could leave our stuff there during the day. The breakfast was surprisingly good, having both Japanese and Western options. The staff were very friendly and spoke english very well. Bikes were available for rent and it was all very comfortable.
We wanted to try out a ryokan, we thoroughly enjoyed this been our first hotel of the trip, however I was looking forward to having a bed after 2 days. Cute rooms and very clean toilets and facilities! Conveniently located near the train and town Only criticism would be the breakfast, I was hoping for something more traditional and they just provide bread and preserves, yogurt and some rice. which did the job to start the day but not the Japanese experience I was hoping for. Staff were very helpful, making reservations for us and check in was a breeze!
Great Little Spot in Kyoto!”
We loved Kyoto more than anything and are even rearranging the last part of our trip to return. Would recommend to anyone who wants the experience of a traditional Japanese bedroom. Small and quaint. Staff were very helpful and kind. Very very close walk to the station and great food. Short bike ride from downtown Kyoto.
Not that bad but too expensive for overall.”
- Staff can speak English very well. - Location is not that close to the Kyoto station, but not too far. around 10 - 15 minutes walk. - Get off the bus at Karasuma Nanajome is the closest bus stop (1 stop before Kyoto station.) - Nice breakfast with no charge. - Futon is too hard. Uncomfortable sleep. - The floor was shaking when somebody walked and you could hear everything from your next room.
