A unique experience! Very highly recommended and excellent value. You will love your stay here!”

'Dunstan Downs' is set in a very peaceful, rural setting just outside the town of Omarama, where we stayed in both 'Tim's Cabin' and the 'Shepherd's Hut'. 'Tim's Cabin': Remarkably restored carriage (unique craftsmanship) is the most unique accommodation & setting we have stayed in during our 50+ years of travelling. The cabin is equipped with twin beds (ample bedding), and everything you need for cooking, etc. The bath (with water heated fairly quickly by underneath gas heaters!} and a toilet. We both used the bath (ideal for laying there and looking at the stars!) and there is no fear of anyone seeing you, for the cabin is set in a totally discrete location. This lovely cabin is set in one of the most peaceful settings that we have ever experienced - absolute bliss! 'Shepherd's Hut: Super hut at the b/packers lodge. The lodge has a spacious very well equipped kitchen facilities, dining & lounge area, plus several toilet & shower facilities. VV highly recommended!

Exceptional”

One of the most unique stays we had in our trip to New Zealand! We happened to be the only guests, so the common facilities (kitchen, bathroom and living room) were basically private. We were in the middle of a farm, far away from towns and we got to see the most amazing night sky of our lives. Thank you so much!

Had everything you would need and more. Was really surprised how well equipped this place was. Only 10 minutes drive from a small town. Peaceful. Quiet. Comfy. A good choice for a relaxing night.

Nice rustic place.”

Dogs are very friendly. Wish the sheep had been closer. Potential for confusion wrt towels. Suggest putting them in rooms/huts one per bed rather than in a common area where it was not clear whether they were placed there by other guests or provided for general use. Tim has done a good job ensuring everything works.

Cleanest place ever”

It is located 15 min drive from Omarama and it’s just by the highway so it can be noisy with the cars if that bothers you. All facilities are adequate but the cleanliness is outstanding. It’s a working farm but I didn’t see a single cobweb. Just incredible.

The Backpackers at Dunstan Downs was a lovely place with a well-equipped and spacious kitchen, indoor and outdoor dining areas, and a homely lounge. Our twin room was cosy and the showers were hot and powerful. Great place to stay!

Good place to overnight. ”

I stayed in one of the private rooms. Very basic but well built. Large room. Good Wifi. Decent although rustic shared showers and toilets. Everything works well. Place is right beside the highway so lots of traffic. Not many places around here, and this was a convenient spot for me on my journey. Would gladly stay here again.

Best Experience in New Zealand ”

The Innes family, the cleanliness, the atmosphere

Best place in New Zealand. We stumbled across this when looking for last minute accommodation and liked the sound of the "sheep station". You can expect to get true New Zealand hospitality and to experience what life on a sheep station is like. All the facilities are clean and warm. They heat up the kitchen, bathroom and your room for you so you aren't cold. You will be surrounded by snow capped mountains (depending on the time of year you visit) and the sky outside your room is filled with stars if you are lucky to have a clear night like we did. Tim and Geva really went the extra mile to make us feel welcome, they are such LOVELY people. I can't recommend this place highly enough. I would have liked to stay a few more nights, but had to hit the road. Will be sure to come back next time I'm in the country. Love Paula & Rachel xx

A real neat experience”

We enjoyed the Dunstan Downs Farmstay. We stayed in the house sharing it with the owners and other guests. The owners were fine with you sharing the living area with them. Lots of conversation and activity going on. The location is out in the country just off the highway, no noise. You are about a 20 minute drive from the town of Omarama.

Nice homey place on a farm ”

Geva and Tim's hospitality and friendliness, the breakfast was great and hearty, and it was a unique experience being on a farm 10 min from town

My boyfriend and I had a great stay here. We came to the area to hike around Mount cook. It was a good 1.5 hr drive from the park but nice to be in a less touristy area. Our room was nice and the breakfast was amazing. Geva was very welcoming and Tim was a funny guy with a dry sense of humor that we liked. The only improvement we could recommend is getting a new bed. The bed was a little rough, but we had originally purchased two twin beds, so it was nice to be in a full size bed instead. Overall we were extremely happy with our stay!

Beautiful Farmstay”

Fantastic location right smack along the highway next to the scenic Lindis Pass. Wonderful farm experience and host

Although I only stayed 1 night, it was a fantastic opportunity for a city girl like me to get close to farm animals like the lambs, dogs, horse, etc. I had booked a single room, but the common bathroom was just opposite my room door. Very convenient. The bed was also extremely comfortable. The house faces a scenic mountain and I was privileged to wake up to snow capped mountains.
