I loved the place. Convenient for shoppers and closeness to the Durban ICC. It is very safe.

The hotel was actually oversold online. It's old fashioned. The staff is actually friendly”
Pros: friendly staff. The building is old, it can use some improvements there and there. The place is clean but I don't think the price is worth it... The pics online are quiet deceiving, really deceiving. But yeah we did spend most of the time outside the hotel so yea

Disappointed”
Our room had no bed sheets, no information about the restaurant and bar and the place looks creepy, rooms inside not what you see from pictures.

It was a bad experience indeed for me.”
When I checked in, my room was untidy, opened take away foods, the bed unmade, it was just a mess. I informed the receptionist who immediately made a few calls before placing me in room 25 which was cleaned.

As always a good hotel”
They have improved their inroom entertainment. They have as well improved their attention to detail especially on cleanliness. The hotel is very tranquil whilst in the heart of the city.

Rundown Hotel”
The hotel does not look like it has been maintained in years. The carpets in the reception area and corridors are so disgustingly horrible and rundown, its an eye sore just looking at it. In various areas smaller carpets (as above) are also torn or broken. The two rooms they had me in, they both have a stuffy old dirty smell, with dated carpets. The entire feel of these room are uncleanliness and you can't even feel like you can relax in the space. Old cupboards, broken chair or no work-space/desk-space area, added to the unwelcome feeling. The room I was upgraded to, bathrooms are dated, with a hand-shower against the wall - so not even the shower was a good experience (had to literally take the hand-shower and keep it over my head and body). The rest of the upgraded room looks like an old block of flats, that no one really wanted to live in. The rest if of the staff, no one with a friendly attitude and would not even greet when you passed them. Certainly one of my most disappointing stays booked through Agoda- and what surprises me is that the hotel had an Agoda gold recommendation/award for 2015 - I don't know how they passed that one. This place cannot be called a hotel - and it almost feels as if a dirty brothel fits the type of institution better. I am literally disgusted!

Conference centre not a hotel”
This is an old Conference centre that they turned into a hotel. The location is extremely dodgy, and dangerous to go outside the hotel.

Not really for tourists, ok for local business people”
Hotel is an colonial building, which looks great, however, is in the CBD and near the harbour, which isn't a great area for tourists. My room, however, was clean and comfortable, good shower etc. Staff were friendly, although I only stayed a couple of nights before moving nearer the promenade, which was more suited to my trip. Although not a bad place, I would only recommend if you know and familiar with the area or on a business trip and need to be in the CBD.

In need of revamp”
Location is good for CBD and easy access to main roads into and out of Durban city centre. Beach is not too far from hotel. Staff are excellent and always helpful and parking and WiFi are free. But the hotel is old and feels creepy. Loads of sounds and noises from around get through into the rooms. The buildings need refitting and updating. Considering the rates, I guess one should say it's value for money and I suppose would recommend if one was on a VERY tight budget

Not a hotel; more a rat invested ghost house”
Firstly this is an old house. There is no cable only sabc 1.2. And 3. The carpets smell like death. There are no real windows in the rooms. The showers don't work. There are huge rats in the courtyard and they close the gates at 10. This is in fact a one star. Avoid at all cost

Built in 1901 and is considered a Durban landmark. Has kept it's heritage and is reflective in the hotel decor and rooms. Staff were very Friendly, room was clean and presentable. Close to good restaurants and nightclubs. Price was very reasonable.

A great hotel with all that I needed”
this is a great hotel, it will give you good standard for a 3 star. Breakfast is good with all the elements that you would expect. Safe parking, good internet connection, some rooms have balconies, Air conditioning system is good in the rooms. Some rooms have a small refrigirator so this can be very handy should you have water and other things to keep chilled. Overall this is a great hotel.

Acceptable”
The hotel staff is not friendly and our stay was very unpleasant. We arrived early and were told check in is at 2pm but at 4pm the hotel room was still not cleaned. After they tried cleaning, there were no towels, pillow cases in our bedroom and the duvet fitted was still wet. The carpet on the passages is very dirty and smells awful. We didn't even bother to utilise the bar or dining facilities for hygiene reason. This place could use some renovations and a change of management or even staff training on how to deal with guests. The pictures on the website were probably taken in 1948 or something after the place was built, it definitely does not look like the pictures.
