"this was our 2nd visit to santa grand east coast hotel and as usual, the check in process was a breeze and you'll need to pay $ as a deposit which will be returned to you on the day of check out. - room and bathroom were spacious enough and they even have bathtubs for superior room type! however, water was constantly leaking whenever you're taking a shower, making the bathroom floor wet and flooded. that's the only grunt we had during our 1 night stay. other than that, it was a delightful staycation (for the 2nd visit as well) !"

"The East Coast area of Singapore is ideally located and will be even more so when the Marine Parade MRT line is completed. The Holiday Inn Express - Katong is that hidden gem that is not so hidden anymore. The room was small but adequate. The shower was wonderful and the staff, both at the front desk, the breakfast area and the cleaning crew were professional and very friendly for Singapore. I was especially impressed with the breakfast. It was basic but delicious. You are just a few hundred meters from the bus stop and when the MRT is finished the hotel will probably be not much further from a station. It was easy to take a bus and then walk under the ECP to the East Coast Park which is a wonderful place to enjoy the water and sand and trees and biking. Kudos to the management and staff of the hotel. I will be back. :)"

"Actually this is the previous Paramount hotel and has been completely overhauled with regards to the rooms. The staff in this hotel is exceptional friendly and helpful, always offering a warm smile has well spoken in the English language.Have been checked in by Miss Jane and I would like to recommend her to the management; check-out was arranged by Miss Josephine Ng, that has been a pleasure, too. Josephine even followed up with a few minor complaints of mine and informed me later by email that everything has been taken care of. The rooms are big enough and very comfortable, the bathroom is mosern, big and practical - I liked it. All amenities in the room and bathroom make one stay a pleasant one. Housekeeping as well as engineering are keeping the place clean, tidy and in order. The breakfast in the 4. floor was great, the buffet spread offers something for everybody's taste, the chef at the egg counter prepared my omelette as I like it. The only 'little' set back: its a 100 % no smoking hotel, which I basically don't mind; but it would be nice if the management could look into a possibility to introduce one or two more smoking corners, at present there is only one outside the main entrance around the corner. Bt again, that is not really important. If I need to sty overnight in Singapore again I will definitely consider this place, because I like the east coast area. And, yes, across the main road is Parkway Parade Shopping Mall and if one walks a bit further you can easily reach the east coast park on foot. Access by car is easy, parking is free and access to ECP is also quite fast and easy. Very good place to stay if you prefer the east coast instead of the crowded city."

"We live in Singapore but we seldom visit Joo Chiat area and it's many offerings in terms of cafe's, bars, and food stalls. This is a good location if you'd like to just walk around along joo chiat and katong area. Close to East Coast Rd where there are a lot of bars and cafe's open at night. I'd recommend a visit to Alibabar (at the end of Joo Chiat Rd) heading to East Coast Rd. Theres a delicious beef/lamb kebab at around $10. "

"This hotel 81 sakura is better than other hotel 81 around joo chiat area , although it is in the mid way of joo chiat road, but it is easy to get a taxi to airport within 20mins. There are many eateries along the road and also a 24 hr supermarket in katong mall. You can also walk to the seaside and visit the eastside largest shopping mall that have many eateries inside. You can also rent a bicycle in east coast park. in addition, Bus number 33 is recommend nearby as it can bring you to bugis and china town area. In the midway of this route , you can also visit old airport road food halls that have many good local food stall although there are no air-cond. "

More about East Coast

The Peranakan culture emerged from Chinese communities that settled on the Malaysian Peninsula during the 15th and 16th centuries. This culture still flourishes on Singapore’s east coast, particularly in Katong. Hotels in the East Coast/Katong area are mainly located in the Joo Chiat part of the zone.

There aren’t many tourist attractions on the East Coast, but locals like to visit East Coast Park. The beach has facilities for kayaking and jet skiing, so this area works as an attractive morning or afternoon destination. Visitors based in the area can also spend plenty of time on the coast, transferring a short distance to the city center for sightseeing, shopping and dining.

Joo Chiat is where most of the classic Chinese shop houses remain. Some have been converted into cozy hotels. These are mostly affordable, and they're within close range of a great array of Peranakan restaurants. An exciting and inexpensive night scene is located in Joo Chiat.

The actual Katong neighborhood is a few blocks closer to the coast and has fewer hotels. Between these two neighborhoods are East Shore Hospital and a spread of gated communities where affluent Singaporeans enjoy views of the sea.

Most of the hotels in the East Coast and Katong area are connected to the Joo Chiat night-owl district in some form. They’re mostly popular with backpackers who don’t mind the short commute to Singapore city center.
