Definitely enjoyed my time”
Thanks a lot to the staff who offered me such hospitality and service. As I'm travelling with my group of friends and heavily depend on reviews to choose a hotel, I'm super duper glad I made the right choice. Pros: Location is great (nearby Little India and it's in UNESCO heritage area) The room is clean and spacious (depending on which room you choose I guess) Staff is friendly and helpful (showing how to use the remote key and explained about our room) Nice view inside the hotel (the deco is nice and very suitable for photoshoot) Cons: Parking space (I dont have any trouble but for family or those who travel with old folks, it could be troublesome) Staff is not around at night(?) - I was out with my friends until almost midnight and when we came back to the hotel, we didnt see a single staff around or perhaps they're resting No TV (that's cool but I just let others know just in case) Not suitable for people with knee problem or little children (no lift just stairs)
nice, perfect location !”
old old mansion, just that we are prohibited from making noise from 10pm-8pm, so if you're coming with kids, this is not your place! take note that you need to walk slow, and try not to make noise. other than this, the room was huge and its a old-kinda feeling to stay in a mansion, love it!
I was looking forward my stay at East Indies but was disappointed.Mansion is great and room same but staff just hangs around smoking all day.Not very professional and definitely not worthe the price of pride of the owner
A very special stay at such special old architectural treasure. The place has been well-kept, tidy and clean at the same time. An enjoyable stay. Very close to the little India, with plenty of eateries. Also conveniently located in the heart of Georgetown.
Very cozy and picturesque ”
Well located in Georgetown close to little India ( would not recomend driving there if possible since parking can be tricky) But the staff was very nice and helpful. The hotel it self is also very pretty and feels a bit like you stepped into a another era.
Very Authentic Stay!”
Pros; 1. Cheap but classic. 2. Spacious room for Cinnamon 2 with duplex concept. 3. Clean although some furniture very authentic. 4. Very friendly staff, humble & helpful. He is Azrol & his lady manager. 5. Perfect place for those need some privacy. 6. Easily find place to eat especially mamak restaurants. Cons; 1. No TV. So bring books to read! 2. Hot water not function but the water not so cold. 3. Water pressure very slow for shower only. 4. No specific parking provided. So must park at road side. So don't forget to put parking coupon ticket to avoid summons. Overall, we really enjoy the stay here. Lovely place to stay! So hope it can be maintained.
Boutique guesthouse in an old Chinese shophouse within UNESCO world heritage area”
I had great stay here. This place has a lot of character. Superfriendly staff, spacious room with king size comfortable bed, hot shower and AC. The only negative thing was slow wifi, and in my room (nutmeg C) there was even no wifi signal. Location is great. Walking distance to all the important places inside UNESCO protected George Town.
Great Location for Stay in Little India!”
Great place to stay with big groups or even as a solo traveler/ couple. Rooms are clean and bedsheets are clean as well. Towels are also provided and do not have any funky smell. Location is near to Sri Weld Food Court - Great Nasi Lemak, near Little India numerous stalls and near pubs for those who look for drinks at night. Parking might be an issue during the day, but there is a nearby multi-storey parking lot if you drive.
Rustic gem with unique charm”
East Indies was charming boutique hotel with rustic looking rooms that transport you back in time. All amenities were provided and rooms were very spacious and comfortable. My only gripe was for the room I stayed in (Cinnamon 1) - as it was a double storey room, with the air conditioning unit situated on the 2nd storey, the lower storey doesn't get cooled sufficiently and you can feel the difference in temperature/humidty when walking up/down the spiral staircase found within the room.
Classic but stylish! ”
It's pretty hard to find a hotel that looks better than its photos. East Indies not only looks better but also gives a comfortable cozy feeling that makes you feel like home - only more luxury and stylish. The hotel is located in a busy location of Little India, but when stepping inside, it's private and quiet. I love its old plan and the air well turned small garden. Room and bed are also big, stylishly decorated, and has bathroom inside with a complete set of toiletry stuff. Kitchen is also vast and available 24 hours. There are many pretty corners for you to lie down, read or even work on your laptop. I just want to spend all day in here!
COZY & SUPERB ENVIRONMENT”
Yea..definitely one of best hotel i ever stay. The front desk girl very polite and helpful, she will definitely will give you a hand whenever you need to know the info. The environment is cozy and the room is very big. The location is great and very worth to stay
Beautifully preserved mansion ”
Staff were all exceptionally friendly and helpful. Being one of the oldest mansions in Penang, the building is well preserved and refurbished. Our room was clean and comfortable. Internet connection was poor due to the old building structure, I have had to work during the trip so that was quite inconvenient. Parking may get slightly challenging as there arent many public parking lots before evening. The friendly staff pointed us to a nearby car park which is about 5 mins walk away. If internet isn't a requirement for you then I would highly recommend this mansion - it will be a unique experience staying in a 200-year old mansion :)
East Indies Manson is a delightful place to stay in Georgetown. The staff is unsurpassed in hospitality and professionalism. The interiors are meticulously restored and very comfortable. While it IS an old house and one can sometimes hear ones' neighbors, the charm and hospitality more than accommodate for this slight annoyance. Should you be lucky enough to visit, remember to take your shoes off in your upstairs room.
Superb great location, excellence service, helpful and friendly staffs.felt like home sweet home ^,^”
Superb great location, excellence service, helpful and friendly staffs.felt like home sweet home ^,^ Heritage feelings, the best place and service we ever had in Penang. Wonderful and excellence service with great staffs, expecially Jess who is so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable young man^,^ Definitely we will be back again soonest~~
enjoyed my stay. Staff is very very friendly. Superb location. The place is clean and filled with lots of antique decorations that reminded me of my childhood. Some minor cons such as no private parking, street parking is limited due to busy and narrow road ( but they provide the parking voucher). Furthermore, as I traveled with my parent and we stayed in a room with top and bottom floor connected by a spiral staircase. Have to say the staircase is a bit stiff and the straps are narrow which can be dangerous for elders.
Was impressed by the heritage mansion and its environment. Manned by great staff (Linda, Jass, Vijay, etc) and they made you feel so welcome with their hospitality. This is one of the great place to stay and rest, while at the same time experience the historical value of the establishment and Penang. The only disappointment which we had was, we have reserved Anista room but due to repair work required, we were given Cinnamon 2. But Linda and Jass made an effort for our last night by transferring us to the "smaller" Anista room and we really enjoyed the last night!
Charming boutique hotel”
East Indies Mansion isn't quite located in the "heart of the action" of Georgetown, ie, the largely pedestrianised area, but just outside closer to Little India and the banking district. That's not bad, but not perfect. That said, it isn't too much trouble walking around. It's just that in the blazing Penang heat, every second counts. The room, however, was huge for what we paid, a duplex with a nice sitting area and a very comfortable bedroom. No TV in the room, and I know, you're supposed to be outside when travelling. But hey, if that's purely the case, why have a decent and private bedroom at all. Breakfast was fairly decent and all in all, a worthwhile member of Georgetown's growing boutique hotel scene.
value of money, friendly staff , frontline staff went extra mile by making effort to find a tv n harddisc for my staycation. thumb up for the good service but was kinda upset they went in to the room w/o we knwing to tidyup our room.
Heritage hotel in the heart of Georgetown”
We enjoyed our stay. The staff was great led by Jess, who was super friendly. Quaint, imposing, historical mansion converted into a hotel with seven guest rooms. Classic architectural design from India style homes with open courtyards (aangan). We took the family suite with a large, high ceiling living room, master bedroom that is larger than most regular hotel rooms and a loft that had a double bed for the kids. Well furnished, superbly maintained, it is rare to get to live in a mansion like this. Staff is quite friendly, location is great and was a great and welcome change from living in a regular hotel. Keep it up East Indies Mansion.
5-star service from the staffs, love the interior design of the building and room, not soundproof as can hear guests walking from upper room, strategic location (convenient stores, cafes, restaurants, banks, pub, Indian street nearby the corner and etc). Definitely will return for my next stay in Penang.
