Don't expect the best but it's a bed to sleep on”
This was my second time staying at El Capitan Hotel, the first being in 2018. The room I stayed at the first time i came was on the first floor and was somewhat nosier and more outdated. The room I stayed at this time around through booking in agoda was more updated and wayyyy less noisy and it was on the second floor. The stairs might not be ideal for people that have trouble going up stairs or are carrying lots of luggage. We were ther for the weekend and were rarely at the hotel. The location I love as the mission is one of my favorite areas in San Francisco. It is by no means glamorous but it's so culturally rich, food is great, and it reminds me that not every part of San Francisco is taken over by millionaires and tech bros. The bathrooms could be way cleaner, and it would help if they had air freshener. I probably wouldn't recommend this place for people with children even though there are plenty of children living there. I would say maybe for people looking for a cheap place to stay over the weekend.

Never stayed in a hotel with shared bathroom and shower before so it was kinda weird. The hotel is definitely in need of major renovations .

It’s a okay place. They say they have a kitchen, and that is true, but there is no utensils to use, so you have to bring your own. The hotel is a fine walking distance away from supermarkets, parks and sport facilities. Overall it is okay.

the bed was slanting..like the end part was higher than the other. the lights in the room was so dark. and the couch and bed are full of dust plus it is so noisy since its near the road you can hear people shouting and cars passingby, like literally you cannot sleep.

The Mission District is what it is”
This is a residential hotel, and priced like one. It's poorly ventilated, only barely clean, has no elevator-lift and many stairs, so not very luggage friendly. Plumbing in the room I had (twice, two weeks apart) was loose and moved about when valves were opened and shut. The room was hot and the fan provided ran but moved no air whatsoever. Residents' kids in adjoining wings and floors were noisy even around 10 P.M. The bathroom was in a sad state in all ways and quite some distance from the room provided. I will look elsewhere next time.

If you have an opportunity to stay somewhere else, take it. Even it costs you more. Some issues: 1. Bathroom towels and wash cloths had other people's pubes in them. 2. Some of their doors do not lock completely! I brought to their attention one of their doors does not fully lock, potentially exposing all of my items in the event I left the room. Their initial response was "they have cameras. If someone takes somethkng we will see it." I had to explain why that was not acceptable in order to move to a room that has a door that, you know, locks. 3. The linens were not washed as they still *very* much smelled like whoever the previous occupant may have been. Believe me - I get it. You don't stay at a place like this because you expect 5 star resort hotel treatment; you're there to save a few dollars. Bargain prices notwithstanding, visibly dirty towels, obviously unwashed linens, and room doors that do not lock are simply not acceptable for any hotel stay - anywhere.

okay for the money”
For about the same price ($44 - 3 nights with communal bathroom) you can get an airb&b hostel bunk bed, so it's a tradeoff. It's not too terrible if you have low expectations to begin with. you may hear some couple arguing / having sex through the walls, so have some earplugs. Some families live here. If you just need a place to crash with wifi for a day or two, this is the place all though you will need to find parking and don't leave anything in the car - not the safest area.

Worst hotel I've ever been in ”
First impression was wow this place smells like old urine, the first room given was horrible. Filthy, black mold in the shower, no heat, and infested with bed bugs. Second room looked slightly better but also, no heat, and infested with bed bugs. I was bitten while lying in the bed and when sitting in one of the chairs. Agoda seems to not care about the quality of business they partner with. They do take calls 24 hours but they did not deliver any kind of guaranteed assurance in my case. The El captain in the mission area of San Francisco is an absolute no go, no stay zone unless you are u bothered

Dirtiest, sketchiest hotel I’ve been too”
First thing I saw on my way to my room were rats. Then the rooms don’t even have their own restroom, it’s shared with the floor. And the location left me scared, I immediately shortened my stay and went to a Holiday Inn instead. Do not come here
