Great value, great location, no frills”

A lot like a hostel, El Capitan is clean, staff are friendly, located centrally in the Mission. If you’re looking for an affordable place to stay close to the action in San Francisco, with nothing fancy, this is the spot.

great hotel for the price”

comfortable, cheap, great location

It was a good price for the conditions, and has a great location. We weren't there that long since we went out that night but while we were there everything was cool. The other people staying at the hotel seemed a little sketchy but they didn't bother us. The bathrooms have nice showers and were very clean.

Very good”

Nice clean room with private bath at good price. Good location for attending a conference on Mission St. Long stair climb to 1st floor with rooms. Other floors above also no elevator. Had TV, small fridge and microwave. Not "modern" but pleasant. Was not ready when Agoda reservation info said it would be but effort was made to speed process. Register desk at top of stairs. Entry through locked gate at street level where one gets buzzed in. Cheaper rooms offer shared restrooms.

It’s not the ritz , but you are also not paying a lot . Decent hotel , spacious rooms and relatively clean. If you are on a budget - that’s better than Airbnb

Not worth the money!”

TV

We had two different rooms during our stay at El Capitan Hotel. First we stayed in a double room with shared bathroom. While the room was pretty clean and nice (fridge in the room) the bathroom was almost unbearable. Kind of disgusting shower and old toilet. For the third and last night at the El Capitan we moved, due to a friend joining us, to a "family room" with a private bathroom. There we experienced two really small beds, a small bathroom, not enough towels, no hair dryer and no toilet paper. We had to asked twice for some toilet paper, as well as for a dryer, which we never got. Needless to say that the "family room" did cost cost us way more than the double room, while the standard kind of dropped! Additional, interesting for those traveling with a car, parking near to the "hotel" is available, bit will cost you 20 bucks a day.

Awesome value”

Single room occupancy. Quiet, super easy to access at any hour, 24 staff, free morning coffee and juice sometimes, room cleaning crew is on point, comfortable for a thrifty traveler. Shared bathrooms can be a bit underwhelming, may splurge for en suite from now on... otherwise great stay!

I found the hotel a great value/versus cost ”

Hot showers, several clean towels, large rooms w large dresser space.

Overall everything was fine better than I expected. The only thing I didn't like was having to be buzzed the main door. And as mentioned in prior reviews one couple having loud argument w a baby sobbing in the background. Not to make fun it's just a truth it felt like the sound stage of one of the Latino novella's my grandmother loved to watch. Sadly this was real

Roaches in the Room!!”

It would've been good if there weren't roaches crawling around the floors and curtains of my room. The staff of semi helpful, but it's still very hard to overlook the neglect for cleanliness of the hotel and the weird odors that permeate the halls. It smells like someone got a toilet from each continent and dumped it in the hallways of the hotel. Next time I go to mission, I will gladly pay double what I did here for a decent room at a decent hotel without roaches.

The location is awesome, but you have to have pretty low standards”

The hygiene is not that great, although the common toilets and bathrooms are cleaned twice a day, so if you are lucky, you get inside in the morning before they get gross and in the evening after they are cleaned. We have found some hair in our bed that definitely wasn't our, so that didn't make us feel much better. Some of the guests are pretty surreal and the hotel has a distinct feeling of the sub-standard flats/houses in old cop shows, where nobody heard the murder. The only bonus really is the location, which is, however, fantastic, but that's about it. I am not sure this should be even called a hotel, it rather reminded me of student dorms in post Communist countries and I should know, I come from one of them.

Nice Hotel - Good location”

Good overall stay. Decent rooms and shower. Butted heads with a rude desk clerk who wanted to keep parking his personal cal between the two handicapped parking spaces....had to explain to him that was against the law and threatened to call the police to cite him before he would move it. He should be looking for a new job. Otherwise experience was pleasant.

needs attitude adjustment”

Very nice place to stay if you need a cheap hotel My only downside to my visit was the attitude they threw at me over my service dog. They apparently don't like dogs but she IS my service dog and SHE COMES WITH RIGHTS and the staff is split about how to treat these animals. One manager kept changing the "POLICIES" upon which we were allowed to stay. You can't stay for more than six days pervisit...you have to stay a minimal 5 days,FIVE DAYS IF YOU WANT TO STAY HERE. I've never heard of ANY hotel EVER making the claim that their "POLICY" says a guest has to stay a minimal of 5 days but then you can only stay six and have to move out. for that I give the hotel one star. If they split that star up I;ll give the hotel the smallest piece of that star they can possibly get. Why would he tell us something like that... tell me what the problem is and we can work on it but LIEING gets you NOWHERE but STUPID! My friend stayed the night AFTER forONE NIGHT...see,STUPID!Next is a lawsuit. STUPID

Just not clean”

Your typical big city budget hotel, decorated pretty nicely for the price, but it just wasn't clean. Pee on the toilet seats (shared bathrooms) and generally gross bathrooms, and I'm not picky or a germaphobe. Sheets were super scratchy and I came back from the trip with a million bug bites, not sure whether they're from the hotel bed or not.... There's a parking lot behind the hotel for 15$ a night which was convenient. The neighborhood is fine if you're used to big cities but I still wouldn't recommend walking down this part of the Mission alone at night if you're a young woman, although you'd probably be fine. Secure building and room access, easy check in and out. I've stayed in 20$ a night hostels that felt much better than this place so I would not recommend it. Maybe if they buy new sheets and clean the bathrooms a lot more. And have more toilet paper.

Worst Hotel Ever Stayed At”

Absolutely nothing

For a hotel in a major city in on the West Coast of the USA or any world city to be found worse than what I have even experienced in India takes some beating. Disinterested night staff;a smoke alarm that kept going off through the night,so no sleep;a night staffer who had no clue to deal with that alarm;a half-frame bedstand that tipped the mattress when sat at end;state of carpeting in the entrance and stairways and passageways that was not only dirty, but worn out;state of a shared bathroom that just barely passed muster. In fact I could not wait to get out of there and go elsewhere in San Francisco, where I was booked for the remainder of my stay in SF. Would definitely be not recommending this standard of hotel to my worst enemy!

Facility has issues”

This place is falling apart. It's cheap (comparatively) but in disrepair. Make sure to also pay attention to the shared bathrooms (unless you've opted for the more expensive suites). Some people might be fine with all of that, and the place is reasonably clean, but we found the overall condition of the hotel to be very off-putting. Additionally, you have to pay a $25 fee to park your car in the lot downstairs. No refund for being dissatisfied with the room/hotel. We were told you have to cancel 24+ hours in advance for a refund. How you can do that and still check out the room...beats me. We checked out without staying the night, and will not return.

The location is horrible I honestly would not think this type of hotels should be on an application.”

The area is horrible l. It’s not safe for tourist going for the first time to San Francisco. It’s really misleading. This type of hotel shouldn’t be in an application like this because a lot of families might get a really bad experience de just like my family and I. It was our first time there we don’t know the area the place and they still charge us for the night with us not staying there due to the dirty, unsafe, and bad location.
