it's definitely not the strip (and that's OK)!”
A very retro and storied hotel near the old Downtown/Fremont Experience. Plenty of good local craft bars and dive bars, and frankly a completely different scene from the strip (for better or worse, that's your preference). After a night with friends on the strip, I had one night alone in Vegas and am glad I stayed here to get to see a different side of Vegas!

Our room was dirty and really small. We felt like we were trapped in a closet. Never had a bad experience with El Cortez before, that is why we will always stay there. Definitely not stay at that hotel anymore.

    Cabana Suites”
The suites were very nice and very private. Check in across the street at the el Cortez and then you only have access with your room key. Security at all hours of the day just patrolling the entrances which made us feel safe. 2 short blocks from Fremont street. Would definitely stay here in the future

I did not stay in el cortez tower but i was upgraded to Jr suite whioch is 5 storey building next to el cortez hotel and casino. Chceking was smooth room was nice the color was light green which is not everyone taste but for one night i could not care less. All necessary things in were provided. Room was clean, nice. Really good value for the money. Free tea and coffee provided with keurig machine. And one mportant thing. After the resort fee hikes in Vegas Cortez is one of the best option.(about14$ resort fee). Fremont street is around the corner.

We got our room for 32 dollars. Nothing beats that! So, yes, the room was worth the money. ”
The only con I would mention is that the bathroom in the room was noticeably dirty on the walls behind the garbage can as well as the garbage itself.

    Good Hotel For The Money”
Check in took awhile but the front desk staff were doing their best to move the process along but some guests can be a bit much by not listening to what was being said to them. Anyways, I paid for a Cabana room but the hotel upgraded me to the tower to a new renovated king room. Mega, the front desk clerk, said I would be pleased with the room and was also very apologetic for the long wait. The room had been recently remodeled. No carpet floors, a beautiful walk-in shower and a comfy king bed. Now this is how all the rooms should be. Please note that if you are on the Fremont side of the hotel you will hear loud music till 2 AM. It is just one downfall to the hotels design as an older hotel. The casino is smoky but the food at the restaurant is very good. The location cannot be beat as it is only 1 block away from the Fremont Street Experience.

    Best blackjack in town”
I like staying here mostly for their blackjack but there are other positives, too. The prime rib deal is great and available 24/7. Wi-Fi works, they have $5 baccarat and craps and Naked City pizza is great. And they're a block from Fremont Street!

Location is great! Avoid the vintage rooms”
Great location and friendly staff. The vintage room smelled like cigarettes and old lady perfume but it was so cheap I didn’t expect anything awesome. Part of the charm I guess. For a few dollars more just get a cabana room or the tower. I think those are newer.

I have stayed at El Cortez several times. The location on Fremont is ideal. Short walk to many places or to public transportation. The hotel is old but gives me the feel of old Las Vegas. Staff is helpful. Room maintenance is not always perfect but good enough.

I go to Vegas. a few times a year and this trip was one of my favorites. El Cortez is located in old Vegas, we didn't really use our car, we had so many options to it all at walking distance. Everything about El Cortez is perfect. The pizza place inside the casino is the best .

    great value, thin walls”
Great location and value. Can use a face lift (I know the casino has been remodeled, but the rooms need one too), the rooms are pretty old but spacious and have all the amenities. The walls are pretty thin and you can definitely hear all the noise going on outside, even at the 9th floor. But it's Vegas, right? So just make sure you bring ear plugs or request to be facing the mountains and not the strip/freemont.

    Very good”
We were told that we were upgrated to Cabana. Yay. Then, we realized parking is not connected to the room. The bathroom light was very noisy. The room was set for 49 degrees so we turned up the heater to bring up to 70 which caused smell of heater when not used for awhile so we had to shut off. TV clicker was not working. We figured we paid very little so this is what to get. We tried to stay out of hotel as much as we could. Imagine what was like if we weren't upgraded...

great hotel, minus the "resort" fee”
El Cortez is a classic old vegas hotel. It's definitely not fancy, but beats staying at the strip in terms of price and, depending on your preference, atmosphere. Only complaint was the $66 "resort fee" that got unexpectedly tacked onto the cost. ($50 is refunded at checkout, so it works out to an extra $16). Apparently that fee covers parking and in-room water and coffee (things that pretty much every hotel normally includes for free. Aside from this surprise fee, it was a great stay.

Best value in a hotel in Fremont area”
Room size, friendly staff, free airport shuttle
I've stayed at the El Cortez numerous times and will continue to do so as it represents consistent value in a Vegas property. I would recommend the Tower rooms....large and well appointed. The Cabana suites are modern but small....the Vintage and Pavillion rooms are too dated to be nice. No pool but the staff are excellent, the hotel is spotlessly clean, good WiFi signal and the casino has a friendly atmosphere with cocktail waitresses never far away. The hotel has one of the most reasonable " resort fees " in Vegas. I would highly recommend this hotel for those on a budget but looking for value.

My wife and I had a fantastic stay at the hotel. Everything is good, the food & casino. Will definitely recommend the hotel. Although it's some distance from the strip, you can still get all the fun and food from nearby fremont street.
