Great location, reasonable resort fee. There was some noise outside from other recreation facility nearby but it did not continue until late night, thus did not affect my sleep. Will suggest to others.
better than i expected”
this hotel is in an excellent location for the Fremont Experience (lively in the early evening!)... ...and other attractions nearby. ..eg Mob Museum....(try the experiences here!)..lots of nice places to eat and drink ..try the Park on Fremont's garden...all walking distance.. the room and casino is a bit dated but the room was immaculate and has extras that are not available in the strip hotels which are dearer! eg coffee, complimentary bottles of water and decent films on the TV! The shower was brill and the cleaning staff attentive. I paid more for a hotel on the strip ...it was bigger and pretty but that's what you pay for...nowt else ..Buy a 'Deuce' bus ticket...from 2 hours to 3 days... at Fremont (and plenty of other places to get tickets)..and get around cheaply …. buses every 20 mins...go and use the hotel amenities on the strip. The strip is so stretched out...you either do a lot of distance walking ..or use your bus ticket!...
Played on the slots for awhile but was only able to get one drink the waiter never had time
it's definitely not the strip (and that's OK)!”
A very retro and storied hotel near the old Downtown/Fremont Experience. Plenty of good local craft bars and dive bars, and frankly a completely different scene from the strip (for better or worse, that's your preference). After a night with friends on the strip, I had one night alone in Vegas and am glad I stayed here to get to see a different side of Vegas!
Good value and clean room”
The suites were very nice and very private. Check in across the street at the el Cortez and then you only have access with your room key. Security at all hours of the day just patrolling the entrances which made us feel safe. 2 short blocks from Fremont street. Would definitely stay here in the future
Good Hotel For The Money”
Check in took awhile but the front desk staff were doing their best to move the process along but some guests can be a bit much by not listening to what was being said to them. Anyways, I paid for a Cabana room but the hotel upgraded me to the tower to a new renovated king room. Mega, the front desk clerk, said I would be pleased with the room and was also very apologetic for the long wait. The room had been recently remodeled. No carpet floors, a beautiful walk-in shower and a comfy king bed. Now this is how all the rooms should be. Please note that if you are on the Fremont side of the hotel you will hear loud music till 2 AM. It is just one downfall to the hotels design as an older hotel. The casino is smoky but the food at the restaurant is very good. The location cannot be beat as it is only 1 block away from the Fremont Street Experience.
Best blackjack in town”
I like staying here mostly for their blackjack but there are other positives, too. The prime rib deal is great and available 24/7. Wi-Fi works, they have $5 baccarat and craps and Naked City pizza is great. And they're a block from Fremont Street!
Location is great! Avoid the vintage rooms”
Great location and friendly staff. The vintage room smelled like cigarettes and old lady perfume but it was so cheap I didn’t expect anything awesome. Part of the charm I guess. For a few dollars more just get a cabana room or the tower. I think those are newer.
Great location, good value. ”
I have stayed at El Cortez several times. The location on Fremont is ideal. Short walk to many places or to public transportation. The hotel is old but gives me the feel of old Las Vegas. Staff is helpful. Room maintenance is not always perfect but good enough.
Very nice rooms, good amenities
Had a great time!”
I visited last year and stayed at the El Cortez 5 times. This year is my first visit and the El Cortez is is.
Great location, some renovations were done. Cheaper than the strip and has style, cachet. I would recommend anyone to stay here. Like anywhere in Vegas, price is about double or triple on weekend.
The El Cortez is a great hotel for the money. They are friendly and helpful. Its close to Fremont st. but not as noisy .
I go to Vegas. a few times a year and this trip was one of my favorites. El Cortez is located in old Vegas, we didn't really use our car, we had so many options to it all at walking distance. Everything about El Cortez is perfect. The pizza place inside the casino is the best .
Best value in a hotel in Fremont area”
I've stayed at the El Cortez numerous times and will continue to do so as it represents consistent value in a Vegas property. I would recommend the Tower rooms....large and well appointed. The Cabana suites are modern but small....the Vintage and Pavillion rooms are too dated to be nice. No pool but the staff are excellent, the hotel is spotlessly clean, good WiFi signal and the casino has a friendly atmosphere with cocktail waitresses never far away. The hotel has one of the most reasonable " resort fees " in Vegas. I would highly recommend this hotel for those on a budget but looking for value.
Great hotel !”
My wife and I had a fantastic stay at the hotel. Everything is good, the food & casino. Will definitely recommend the hotel. Although it's some distance from the strip, you can still get all the fun and food from nearby fremont street.
So cheap!!! There is no hotel tax!!!!!!”

Don't stay here!”
If you're okay with staying on the old side of Vegas you get your money's worth for the large room. It was a very Vintage Room. Very old and dirty. It was a non-smoking room but you felt like you were sitting in an ashtray. The noise, Lights, music, and drunk people from outside was horrendous. The staff was mute. They don't greet you they don't say goodbye and they don't ask how your stay was! The staff and patrons in the hotel all looked very shady!
