Look no further! The perfect relaxing getaway for
We went to El Rio with our 2yo and 10mo kids. An all-in-one beachfront resort like this is a real find, as all the boat trips required to see the sights of Palawan are frankly too challenging with babies and toddlers. We spent 6 days at the resort and never felt the need to go anywhere. The diving and scuba are super right on the house reef, the spa has lots of services and trained professionals, and there are activities organized for kids and adults each day such as kayaking in the mangroves and jewelry making for kids. There is a kids pool and nice sloped shallow area off the main pool that are ideal for young kids, and they have pool toys on hand. Staff are warm and friendly and really try to accommodate all requests. We spent a rainy afternoon in the videoke room, but the library was out of service during our stay. Best of all is the food. We live in Manila and have found that F&B is consistently lacking at even 5-star resorts in the Philippines. At El Rio, we ate something different every day and were very happy with the Western cooking, even if some dishes were a bit too oily and there are quite a few fried items. Our cedar cabana was spacious enough for the baby to toddle around and we adored having the hammock and loungers on the patio and outside to sit and enjoy the start and night sky. It's also great that the only noises are those of nature and the live band. We saw monitor lizards, hundreds of fish, mudskippers, birds, butterflies...endless fauna to admire for the kids! The resort is amazingly stroller friendly, too. We will definitely be back with friends and family.

Worth it and will definitely go back
I love the vibes of the resort. The facilities are good and nice. I love the pool and our Cabana room. The restroom is very clean. Overall, I will recommend the place and will definitely go back. One thing which is a hassle for us is the location, it is the opposite direction to where the famous tourist spots are located. But if you are looking for a very relaxing vacation, this place is a must!

Pros: the staffs are very helpful and very accommodating. When we arrived they have offered a cold towel, a drink and a welcome song. They have different activities everyday (if the weather permits) The use of the kayaks, snorkeling masks and fins, life jackets are free for use. They have gym, spa and massage center. A table tennis and billiard table available until evening. They are offering group tours but almost double the cost, which is understandable considering the location. Cons: since it is located on the other side of the town, going to the city proper is difficult as you have to request for a transfer (via boat and van) and the cost are quite high. You will not reach the property without the transfer. The variety of the food during breakfast are limited. For the a la carte, the cost of pork sinigang with 3 pieces of meat is too high considering the serving size is good for one. I have lost my lighter and I paid Php 75!!! Overall, I will still recommend

Lovely place
I knew booking this place that it might be secluded but it really is very secluded. On arrival I learned that actually getting away from the place is only permitted in the hotel's own boats and/or on hotel-organised trips all of which cost over $100. I instantly felt practically kidnapped. Surely there has to be a law against charging guests over $100 to leave? Anyway, once we had gotten over this shock, we really enjoyed our six days at El Rio Y Mar. The place is in a beautiful location, the rooms are basic but very comfortable, the beach is pleasant and if you have not dived or snorkelled in a good place before, the coral and fish right off the beach are not bad. The hotel has snorkelling equipment, canoes and paddle boards you can take for free and explore the surrounding bay. You can hike up the hill behind the resort for a beautiful view. The trips organised by the hotel are really pretty good and if you are a diver, the dive shop next to the hotel is good. The restaurant and bars are pretty good serving a good selection of food - though I recommend sticking with the Filipino food since they do this much better. Try the Palawan beer! And the evening entertainment.... well very entertaining.

Peaceful and Relaxing
THE GOOD: On sunny days the water is crystal clear, good snorkeling in front of the jetty area. It was fun use their stand-up paddle boards and kayaks. The service we received at the resort was impeccable. The room was clean, the bathroom is a bit dated but it didn't bother us much. They are remodeling the restaurant and it will be done at the end of October, but the temporary restaurant was fine. We had full-board meals and most of the meals we had were exellent (buffet breakfast, 4-course lunch and 5-course dinner, so much food!). We had an early flight so we left at 5:30 am and they packed us a huge breakfast and had some of the staff, including a guitar player, see us off. Unbelievable. THE BAD: We stayed in a Native Cabana, which is a duplex cabin. The units are separated by one door, so sometimes if your neighbors speak loudly you can hear the tone of their voices, which is not ideal. Also the resort is very far from Coron town where you board for excursions (20 minute boat ride then a 50 minute van ride) so excursions are very expensive if no one else signs up for them. Fortunately we were able to go on an excellent Coron Island Tour with a total of 10 people for about $75pp, a bit expensive but it was worth it. However, if it had just been the two of us, the cost would have been close to $180pp, which is absolutely ridiculous. Management should consider having a shuttle arrangement at a reasonable rate to go into Coron when sign-ups are low so people can go with local tour companies, because no one is going to pay the exhorbitant prices the resort charges for 2 persons anyway. Overall, we had a great time and would not hesitate to stay here again.

Heaven on Earth.
This place is truly heaven on earth. I have travelled a lot of the world, and this is one of my highlights in all my years travelling. The location is great, the staff were brilliant, and I was bought to tears several times while we were there by the 'above and beyond' detail and attention that was offered so happily by the staff. I spent months finding the right location and accommodation to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday and truly can not wait to go back there again. We stayed in a Cedar Cabin on the waterfront and were steps away from snorkelling with the tropical fish amongst the coral any time we wanted. There are hammocks throughout the entire place, or on your own balcony if you book a cabin that were super comfortable and great to rest in during the heat of the day. The snorkelling off the pier here needs to be seen to be believed. I have been to the Great Barrier Reef twice and this was far more superior. I paid extra money for my husband's birthday dinner and the staff set up a beautiful private area for us near the pool, and we had our own chef who prepared a 5 course meal for us and then the staff all came along with cake to sing him happy birthday - absolutely priceless. There are 2 floating massage areas which you get to by boat (the staff take you) where you can enjoy a massage whilst watching the fish swim below you through the hole in the floor directly under where you lay. Tours leave the resort each day if you are interested but we were happy to stay and just rest or swim with the fish most days. We did take one tour where we snorkelled with the Dugongs and sea turtles - that was a lovely day. There are free kayaks, stand up paddleboards, snorkelling equipment to rent and 2 pools to keep cool in. Truly loved this place, and we will go back again one day - 10/10 :D

Absolutely brilliant place, the food lacked a bit of choice, however it was freshly prepared and tasty. The organized tours were a great experience and the scenery was breathtaking. The Staff could not have been better, friendly, attentive and prompt always. We both had a great time there and look forward to returning
