"Elegant architecture respectful of the environment, and peaceful bungalows with splendid views on the beach while being hidden in nature."
Hubert - May 21, 2019
The resort is situated on the best and cleanest stretch of the beach and the "garden" atmosphere around the bungalows is a nice contrast to the beach ...

Probably the best service I've ever experienced ”
We spent 3 lovely nights at the Emerald Sea Resort. I've never come across a hotel staff so eager to please as this one. They ALWAYS are smiling, even the gardeners and housekeepers. Rooms are cleaned twice per day, wait staff always offer to fold napkins over your lap, they deliver traditional Burmese desserts to your room at night, they will bike into town and buy you a bus ticket at no extra charge, they'll prepare breakfast for you to take if you have to check out early....I could go on and on about how wonderful the service is here but you get the picture. The young, student-aged staff really go the extra mile to make your stay memorable. Ngwesaung Beach is a slice of heaven. Enjoy it now before the big developers find it. Currently you are just as likely to see a herd of buffalo walking across the beach as you are to see another group of tourists. Try a beach holiday in Burma instead of Thailand!
We have stayed at most major hotels at NgweSaung over the years, but this was our first time at Emerald Sea. The staff really made us feel at home and went beyond the call of duty. We had some car trouble and the manager found a competent local mechanic who was able to fix the car on the spot. Everyone was extremely polite and helpful. The resort is situated on the best and cleanest stretch of the beach and the "garden" atmosphere around the bungalows is a nice contrast to the beach at noontime. The only room for improvement I could recommend would be in the facilities. The pool is relatively small, but we do not go to the beach to use a pool. It would also be nice to have a billiard table--but these are suggestions, not complaints.

Had a lovely time at Emerald Sea Resort. As it was still rainy season (rained about an hour a day) we had the resort mostly to ourselves but I still think it would be a special place, even if full. The wide, clean beach is great for walking and swimming. There are pretty gardens and very pleasant bungalows. But best is the delightful staff. They are friendly, helpful and nothing is too large a request. We especially enjoyed the restaurant staff. If we return to Myanmar, we will certainly return to Emerald Sea.
Nice hotel at huge lonely beach! ”
We spent some days at the Emerald Sea after having travelled the country. We were not looking for nightlife or any form of entertainment there, just for relaxing at a great beach in a nice hotel. This hotel was ideal for the purpose. Rooms, pool and beach area were very clean, rooms were cleaned twice a day. The beach was almost deserted and it's huge. The sea is not really calm, waves were pretty high. We particularly enjoyed the seafood at the hotel restaurant. We tried a few other places, but found the hotel was best while still reasonably priced (main courses at around 4000 kyat). Staff was really nice at all times, though some speak hardly any English. View from the sea front bungalow is fabulous, it was like having first row seats for the sunset every night. For 100$ per night you might expect a litlle more (especially when comparing to Thailand), but it seems to be quite normal pricing for the area. Unfortunately the so called Spa is not worth its money (we tried the footmassage for 5,000 kyat) but other hotels offer a wide variety of treatments and it is probably worth spending a bit more in one of the more expensive places.
Excellent place to stay in Ngwe Saung”
This was the second time we came to Emerald Sea Resort and we were again very happy about our stay. The location is quiet and peaceful, very green and well maintained. The service is nice and friendly and the beach is just perfect. Great place to stay with family.

I stayed at Emerald Sea Resort for three days and loved it. The hotel was very clean and tidy, the staff extremely friendly and helpful. A nice little detail was the dessert every night that were put in your room along with hot water for tea or coffee. Would come back any time!!!
great seaside time, nice and clean resort, ”
Although getting to Ngwesaung was'nt easy we had a nice surprise because the place and Emerald resort are just great. I tottaly recomed this hotel.
Nice location, very bad food, bad value for money”
The hotel is located directly at the beach, a quite small resort with nice bungalows. At the first glance, everything was perfect. After the first dinner we decided to eat elsewhere, the food was terrible, very oily, cold spaghetti and so on. The rooms are nice and big enough but everything is a little bid runned down. The stuff was extremely helpful, attentive and very child-friendly! On the other hand, the language skills of the staff - except 2 people at the reception - were extremely bad, we had to talk with hands and feets. Moreover, the hotel is very expensive for what you get. To sum up, if you want to have nice vacation in Ngew Saum Beach, dont go to the Emerald Sea Resort. Book at the Palm Beach Resort just 500m towards the village. We always had breakfast, lunch and dinner there, food is exzellent, the staff have ok language skills and is very friendly. This hotel is in a much better condition than the Emerald Sea Resort, has a very nice pool with view to the sea and its own library.
Locally owned hotel which gets the European market”
A good value (by Myanmar standards) Ngwesaung beachfront hotel, nice environmentally sensitive architecture (owner is an architect), friendly helpful staff. Good shaded pool. Meal service a bit slow, internet patchy (not their fault). better value than nearby Palm Beach rsort and almost as attractive although the breakfast menu there is a bit better.
Great place to wind down after a tour”
My friend and I loved our 4 days at this quiet resort. After a busy 2 week tour, we wanted a few days to ourselves before flying home. Our room was spacious and clean, and the beds were comfortable. Showers were hot as well. The resort is an easy half hour walk along the beach to the town which is interesting with varied shops and restaurants. An alternative way to get home after dinner is a bicycle taxi - great way to travel when you don't have to pedal! Also very few people hassled us to buy things. There's a nice beach restaurant only 5 minutes walk from the resort. The beach was fabulous - very clean and the water was reasonably warm in January. We took a private car and driver from Yangon which took 5 hours to get there on a Sunday, and 7 hours to get back on a weekday (due to an accident). All in all I'd recommend both the town and the resort.
Very relaxing place”
We took a large family group here when they came to visit us in Myanmar. We booked out 3 rooms and they ensured that we were all side-by-side with inter-connecting balconies so that we could sit together. The grounds of the resort are very lush with palm-trees etc so there is heaps of places to get away from the sun. The beach itself is sort of half-way down the length, and was a lot cleaner then the rest. We walked north and south from the resort and the beaches there were actually quite dirty with plastic bags and all the other type of garbage that floats on the ocean. The main village is about a 20 minute walk up the beach, or a 5 minute tuk-tuk ride (which can be eaved down on the road outside the resort. There are also a few good seafood/traditional Myanmar food restaurants withing a 3 to 5 minute walk of the resort as well. This is a great place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of Yangon.
we really loved the hotel, both for the quality of the service and the reasonable price. we got a bungalow with view on the beach and the sea. there are few bungalows on the beach but they are separated in such a way that you really feel lonely. rooms are big and the place is extremely quiet. there are much more expensive and luxury hotels in the north section of the beach, but the beach is not as nice. clearly a place we would like to come back and will recommend.
Idyllic place with great atmosphere!”
We had a beachfront bungalow which was absolutely perfect. The beach wonderful and practically deserted. The room was spacious even with 2 extra beds for the kids. The food in the restaurant was very good, too. The breakfasts were ok - a limited choice but everything fresh and tasty. The dinners (we ate there twice) were a real feast - plenty of food, best quality and top class service. The staff in the hotel was just outstanding: the rooms cleaned twice a day, housekeeping coming in the evening to spray the rooms with anti-mosquito and bring some evening treat (a fruit or a cake), restaurant staff very well trained and professional, everybody extremely helpful and always smiling. Thank you very much - we had a truly wonderful stay!
I stayed in this hotel 4 nights with my boyfriend. We spent 2 nights in a deluxe bungalow with sea view which was amazing, in front of the sea, with a nice terrace near the beach, awesome design, really clean, comfortable, quiet and sourrounded by palm trees. We had such a great time staying here! The staff came to clean the room twice a day and they were really friendly. Breakfast was great. The village is 1.5 km and you can reach it even walking on the beach. The swimming pool is clean and nice. The restaurant is too expensive in my opinion and the quality of the meals doesn't match with the price. Then we spent 2 nights in a bungalow with a view garden that was a bit dsappointing. The design was still nice and the bungalow was clean but the furnitures were old, the shower didn't work well and was a bit smelly of mold. I think wasn't fair for 100 dollars per night. Anyway it's a really nice place to stay if you are looking for something of relaxing with an higher level.
great value for money”
no crowds in the hotel nor on the beach, very calm and relaxing. staff is very polite and attentive. we stayed in a room with garden view which was nice but the bungalows looked very lovely, each with a view to the sea. green garden with many palm trees, a cool place to linger with a book during daytime. free wi-fi in the lobby and restaurant but it comes and goes, sometimes no connection or very low speed. a few restaurants just opposite the hotel, cheaper than the hotel restaurant. you can also hire a bicycle opposite the hotel.
A beautiful place to unwind for a few day.”
The resort and the beach was very very quiet which helps to make the atmostphere here very relaxing. Please visit the one and only massage place in town and you won't be disapointed. The food at the Silver Blue Sea, just down the road is super good - the vegetable or prawn tempura was really good !
cosy tropical paradise ”
the hotel located in the half of the way between two more noisy pieces of the beach: the village and the Lovers' Island. The huts very comfortable and smart, with good modest design. The viev from huts on the sea or a beautifull and relaxing garden. The waterpool just superb. Very pretty piece of a beach and nice sunbeds in front of hotel. Excellent food in the restaurant and the breakfasts full of choice. Very friendly and helpfull staff. Definitly recommend for families.

Beutiful and peaceful beach location”
We had a fabulous four days here. The staff were amazingly nice, the room we had was fantastic and the beach lovely. There are loads of sun loungers for guests to use and when we were there the beach was practically empty. The food in the hotel restaurant was delicious, but there are also a few other eateries right outside the resort. You get a little derert treat left by the staff each night as they do their turn down service and as we had to leave too early for breakfast on our last morning to catch the bus back to Yangon, they prepared a little breakfast box for us, which was great.
Nice hotel, shame about the beach”
The Emerald Sea resort has a great location, right on the beach. It needs a little updating in places but on the whole has a nice atmosphere. The staff are very friendly, though communication is a little challenging sometimes for English speakers. I liked my room but it was overpriced at $70 and was billed as a superior garden view room but in fact was opposite the road, with only a few banana trees to hide the buses and motorbikes. But even if you have a sea view room you won't have much peace. The beach is actually more like a road during the day, with lots of motorbikes and four wheeled vehicles racing up and down. I was shocked to see that - someone has to put a stop to it as it will put off lots of tourists and it's dangerous for kids (and adults). The upside is that the nights are quiet - usually no loud music etc.
Friendliest Staff Ever”
The beachfront bungalows were perfect for such a remote location. The staff were simply amazing - we arrived as guests but left as friends. Some reviews are picky about the standard of the rooms but what can you expect for such a remote location in an emerging economy. Highly recommend if you can afford it
