Worst experience of our lives ”
Checked into hotel just before five they were four people at the reception desk at the shift change at 5 o’clock we were left with one and it took forever then things got worse went up to the room which was no bigger than a walking closet there was no room to open two carry-ons that was hard the temperature gauge for the heat was painted over and then accessible there are no closets and the room was filthy. It was obviously a room and gave a worker who needed to stay overnight in that one for the guests . I immediately complained and asked for a Nother room I was told there was nothing they could do I ended up leaving and going to another hotel manager was nasty give me a hard time getting a receipt saying there was no charge for leaving. I’ve stayed in hotels all over the world and the United States and this by far was the worst

    MY FAVE HOTEL IN NYC”
Have been to NYC quite a few times and keep going back to this hotel for its value for money. Very funky hotel with leopard skin chairs in foyer and excellent bar area. The hotel is located on the upper West side, near Columbus Circle. Very quiet to sleep at night. Around 10 min walk to Times Square, 5th Avenue etc. Central Park is a stones throw. The staff at this hotel would have to be one of the best I have encountered, quick, polite, knowledgeable and friendly. There is an abundance of excellent restaurants at your doorstep. The hotel rooms are a good size for NYC, clean, modern and provide everything you would need to make your stay the best. I would highly recommend this hotel to solo travellers, couples and families. Just love this hotel. Do yourself a favour and book at this hotel when in NYC, you will not be disappointed!

    Great Value, Location ”
Great location. The pool is small but offers a nice break from the heat and a place for the kids to burn off some energy. Must pay for internet in room, but it is free in the lobby which is comfortable. We would consider staying here again.

    Location, professional service
This is a well located hotel, very close to central park and the subway stop is very close(circle). The room is ok, the pool and sky bar a bonus. The gym is( like many) disappointing , just a couple of running machines , a strides , a few dumbbells and small. However, the staff are very well spoken, smart and professional and helpful, with everything.

Excellent location, clean, nice big room, staff most at standard. Except 1st night, awfull room..”
Had 2 bookings, 1night + 5 nights. First night terrible as we had a room on 1st floor, right on the ventilation... Fault to the man who checked us in at our late arrival... The next day, a woman arranged us in a perfect room for the rest of our stay. Helpful staff, excellent location, very good deal. Would recommand!! Rooftop and swimming pool (small). Métro at 50 m. Next to Central Park (south). Count on your budget the debit of 150$ refundable few days after check-out. Had a blast with my two 16 & 18 kids!!! Would stay there again !

Friendly staff and great location make up for small flaws”
Friendly staff and great location make up for teeny, tiny bathrooms and snooty hostess at rooftop bar. One bizarre thing: a note in the room says the first four Keurig cups are on them. But the four they provided included one coffee, one vanilla coffee (blech) one hot chocolate and one tea. Every day I had to exchange them for coffee. Maybe ask the guests for their preference?

Defective AC During Summer in NYC”
Sooo they put me in a room with a non working AC at the peak of New York summer... This was my experience after my 23 hour flight from Asia - get in a room that's hot and no AC and a technician had to come and try to fix it to no avail so I had to repack my stuff and then have them transfer me to a room with a defective lock. The next day they upgraded me - it's still a small room but the AC is HALF WORKING - it's blowing air but it's not effectively cooling the entire room. So that was my experience. Great location though, near Central Park.

Great hotel and location. A little noisy at night but had a lovely time.”
Great hotel. I lived on the UWS for several years so I have known of the Empire and had drinks there several times, so I knew the quality and location were great. Room was super clean and had great linens. Only complaint: Our room was on the Lincoln center side, which is where the service entrance was so there were garbage trucks and deliveries that made a lot of noise. It was an amazing deal for a weeknight stay in January, so not much to complain about. But if I paid a more seasonal rate I probably would have asked to move to a different room. Would def stay there again though!

    Would Stay Again”
I was very impressed with the location and price. The pool is way smaller than it seems in photos. The rooftop bar was advertised to close at 10pm however when we arrived just before 9pm they told us they were closing. It was also closed on the Saturday night for a private function which was not advertised at all. This was disappointing because rooftop drinks was something we were looking forward to in the "City that never sleeps"... It would appear that on this occasion, it did sleep... at 9pm nonetheless... Other than this I was very impressed with the hotel as a whole :)

    Excellent hotel, great location! ”
I recently stayed for 6 nights at the hotel and couldn't recommend it more! The staff on check in were very friendly and due to it being my sisters birthday kindly upgraded the room for us. The room was very spacious with great amenities. The beds were extremely comfy and the shower was hot and powerful! The hotels location is great - easy walking distance for many great spots such as Times Square and Central Park, and there is a subway station just outside with easy access to downtown. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay at Empire on my next trip.

Location and room was really large for NYC
The location can't be beat. Very close to Central Park, a couple of minutes walk to Time Warner building, lots of bars, restaurants, shopping, etc. around. Room was big with two beds inside, very ample for 2 adults and 2 kids, but air-conditioning very noisy and door got stuck a few times. Also had a funny smell in the room. I would stay there again just for the location.

Location, variety of room options and close to all transportation
I understand that my stay must have been unusual, but, it was fraught with serious problems and issues. The hotel made an effort to "make adjustments" but frankly it didn't make up for a terrible stay. Will not stay again nor can I recommend this property to others.

    Location
That is the problem with hotels with heritage, sometimes they don't move forward in improving themselves enough sometimes. The location was great but staffs were pretty much just goin about their job robotic like. No extras, don't feel the warmth or welcome to New York! enthusiasm.

Great location, Excellent Price and excellent staff
We stayed here 8 to 11 June. We booked for 4 nights as our flight was leaving at 10pm and we could keep the room longer than 12oclock to come back and shower and change before heading off. The hotel was clean and tidy, nothing was a problem for the staff. Plenty of towels, toiletries etc and rooms were cleaned and bedding changed every day. We would definitely stay here again, it's right on the edge of Central Park and only a few minutes from Times Square. Smiths restaurant across the road do excellent breakfasts with amazing French toast. The rooms are small if you are sharing, we had 2 double beds for 3 adults a 9year old and a toddler (he normally sleeps with mum and dad anyway) and with luggage it's a bit cramped but that wasn't a problem. I have to say for the price 4 nights here was excellent.

Over Priced but Worth the Splurge Sometimes”
    Decor, Staff, Cleanliness
Although still a nice place and one of my favorites they are letting too many things slip. The flooding bathrooms from a missing glass door replaced with a too short shower curtain is my biggest pet peeve with this hotel. Another is the sinking cushions on the sofa. If only they'd fix a couple things they'd be closer to a 5 than the 4 they think they are and not a 3.5 i'd give it now. They still win out for the decor. I had the junior suite this time around. The big faux tiger stripe chair and the V shape of the room are great. Oh! but then there is the paper cups, really paper cups in a 4 star hotel?! It should probably get a 1 just for the lack of glassware alone. I had to go to the lobby and buy drinks at the bar and smuggle them up to my room or keep ones from a room service tray and hide them when they cleaned the room.

    1. Location 2. Decor 3. Comfort
We really enjoyed our stay. The room s are not huge, but very economically arranged. It may have been the smallest bathroom I've ever been in, but it was efficient! The bed was great, the room was beautiful, the staff was terrific, and the location couldn't be beat. A pool in an NYC hotel... almost unheard of. Although the season was not the right one, I still find that such a positive. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

An overall good stay. Great location and comfortable rooms. Unfortunately, I found that I could not utilise the hotel as much as I would like to. On one hand, the prices are quite high for things (food, drinks, supplies). On the other hand, the service received was pretty cheap and lacking 4 star standards.
