1st time we came to Penang, we stayed here because of the location. It is at the very top of jalan penang and there are so many things around. Bars behind the hotel, places to eat within 2 minutes walk, street market within 3 minutes and at the end of the street market, shopping centers are pretty much accross the road! Although there are other hotels that are located on jalan penang itself, bayview still wins hands down on location. The fact that its at the top of the street means a slightly quieter atmosphere. I mean, you don't want to step out of the hotel 1st thing in the morning to see some locals sleeping on the street, do you? Because that's what you'd get if you stay at the hotels on jalan penang. The band they constantly have performing each night is very good too. Sometimes after a hot day walking around or shopping or whatever you do in penang, you just want to relax and have a drink or two and listen to the band singing your all time favourites and do shout outs when you request a song (or 10!). We came back to penang a year later. And even though we originally wanted to stay in a resort around batu ferringhi, we decided we loved bayview the 1st time and we'd show that appreciation by returning. And were we glad we did. We arrived in the island quite late and was exhausted. We checked in at about 11:30 pm and Izhan (forgot the spelling of the name) asked if this was our first time in penang, so we told him we were there the previous year. After what seemed like 5 seconds, he thanked us for returning to bayview and upgraded us from superior room to premier! That's not even the next level of room up (superior then deluxe then premier then suite). At 11:30 at night after a long flight, I don't ever remember having much energy but I was jumping up and down. So thank you! Overall, aside from location, value, facilities available and all other things they advertise, experience like mine is not something you always get at other hotels. Thumbs up
The bayview hotel in Georgetown is located right in the heart of Georgetown. Near to commercial hub, food courts, shopping malls, entertainment centers, historic and cultural landmarks of Penang. we booked superior room with breakfast. the breakfast served was great and suits our taste bud. the hotel staffs was friendly and services provided was good. we love this hotel very much that we will come back here again the next trip and will recommend it to our friends and family. we had a great trip here in penang. thanks to bayview hotel.
Perfectly acceptable - indeed almost funky!”
I chose the Bayview because it seemed to have the least bad reviews, and I couldn't afford the Expensive E&O across the road. Well I can't understand all the fuss and the negativity. All I can think of is that they must be doing some sort of rolling renovation so your room quality may be a bit of a lottery. Ours was not as big as the pictures, but maybe that was because I asked for a room near the lift. Our room was by no means brand new, but for 30 quid was more than acceptable. No bad smells, carpet reasonable, bed spotless and comfy. We didn't get a view - also a lottery I suppose. Staff and public areas impeccable. But the Ace in the hole for us was the amazing rooftop revolving restaurant. As`far as I am concerned revolving restaurants are synonymous with expensive. I know they exist, but they tend to be lots of money. Well the Bayview has a revolving restaurant, with a fixed price buffet at 52 ringitty things - a little over ten of our english pounds and only a few euros or dollars more. And it's a BARGAIN! Food more than acceptable, big if ecclectic variety, caters for all tastes. It was a third full when we ate there and we stayed for 3 hours - all window tables, sunset and view..... It's worth it just for this alone, and if you get a dodgy room just ask for another. Lower floors have a bit of backgrond bass from the ground floor and basement entertainment. We stayed two nights, ate once at the adjacent Red Gardens food court which was OK if you like that sort of thing, and once upstairs. If you are just passing through for a few days - we were on a visa run from Thailand - by train, which was also huge fun - then a few nights at this hotel will do you no harm at all. We walked over to the posh 100$ a night E&O for cocktails, which was also fun. Georgetown was OK, but a bit run down, and some of the other hotels looked like dumps.....dirty on the outside...... Happy travelling!
A welcoming place of good value.”
Our room window view faces the beachfront of Georgetown, close to the E&O Hotel opposite. It's convenient to just walk across the road for a tour of Cheong Fatt Tze mansion, nearby. The City Bayview hotel is also located close to to the historical site of Fort Cornwallis and the old cemetry area at the fort. When evening falls, Upper Penang Road (closed off to traffic ) is an interesting night spot for open-air dining. We are quite impressed with the good, efficient service of the Bayview Hotel that offers delicious local dishes for breakfast.
Top location, directly behind the E&O”
Stayed in a superior room for 3 nights. I really enjoyed my stay at the Bayview Georgetown. I found that the location was great, I didn't want to stay up around Gurney but I did want to be close. It s only a 30 minute walk to get up there or a short cheap taxi ride from one of the taxis waiting outside. The hotel is close to the Esplanade Hawker Centre, located near the Town Hall and has a great outdoor seaside setting. Access to all the Georgetown sites are within an easy walking distance as well. The hotel also offers free car parking, it is a bit tricky to get to but the hotel staff know that and provide good directions. I wouldn't hesitate in staying here on my return to Penang.
Hospitable & Friendly Hotel”
Bayview Hotel Georgetown is a comfortable hotel to stay while in Penang. It maybe a bit costly but their facilities is worth it. Its clean, spacious, with a friendly staff that makes the place worth staying. Its location is also good, with a view of the bay and the city as well. Its also a walking distance to the other shops where you can buy souvenirs items. The revolving restaurant is great, especially in the evening where you can have a great view of the city at 360 degrees. Try this place.
Convenient Location and Clean Rooms”
Bayview Hotel is very near the places of interest in Georgetown, especially most of the museums, famous eateries are clustered around an area of Georgetown. Walk about 10-15mins to reach those places. Staffs working at the hotel were friendly and helpful, and fluent in english. Hotel provides complimentary park tickets per room per day. Hotel rooms were spacious and clean, however the bath area were a tad small, as the shower were to be done in a bathtub, and also even when we've drawn our curtain waters still flow out onto the floor, making the floor of the toilet to be very wet. No toothbrush provided, however, if you ask the staff at the counter for it, they will get it for you. Overall experience was great!
splendid hotel with friendly services ”
it was always a great experience staying at Bayview hotel with the unlimited friendly services extended to us from the front counter till room services. not only that, the room is always clean and in tip top condition which made my stay ever so comfortable and enjoyable. needless to say, Bayview hotel is located within walking distance to most of the tourist destinations in georgetown, such as ST.George Church, Catheral of the Assumption, Goddess of Mercy Temple, Esplanade, Fort Cornwallis and many more interesting places to visit. in short, my stay in Bayview Hotel is always an enjoyable one.
friendly and helpful staff”
My husband and I stayed at Bayview hotel Georgeton and really enjoyed our stay. It is our second time staying here and the service is alway very good. We got a lovely room on the 10th floor overlooking the sea. The beds are very comfortable and the bathroom supplied with toileteries and fluffy towels. Tea and coffee amiking facility is also supplid. There ia a lovely revolving restorant on the top floor with great views of the city and surrounding area. They have different theme night and the food is yummy!! The breakfast is superb with good choices of asian and western food. I definately would have no hesitation in recommending the bayview hotel Georgetown.
Top quality hotel. Modern. Spacious”
Top Hotel. Excellent location at top end of Penang Rd. Walk to attractions in Georgetown. We had a room for three. Spacious. Clean. View to Komtar. Good rate on special offer. Excellent Service. Hotel arrange car hire, parking at the hotel. Staff pointed out Red Garden Food Court across the road at Lebuh Leith. Penang is famous for its food. We had the chance to try them. So good. However did not have a chance to try the revolving restaurant. Always out. See you Bayview until next time.
Old Hotel but with Friendly Staff”
During my stay at Bayview Hotel Georgetown, i felt really happy about the hotel staff & their services. This is because when i request to change room from smoking room to non smoking, they really do help me out. Not only that, this hotel is centrally located and nearby to Gurney. You can find nice food around the hotel area. The nightlife nearby the hotel is also 1 of the reason i choose Bayview Hotel Georgetown.
Great Location with very spacious room”
My 1st Stay with Bayview Hotel ever since I started visiting Penang Georgetown nearly 40 Years ago and I am very happy with this staycation! Check-in and check-out was extremely efficient. Better still for those who drives, 5 floors of car parking is free for Hotel guests. I requested for a sea view non-smoking room. The corner room, that I stayed, commands a nice view, extra space and highly comfortable beds.
Location, Location, Location”
it is not too often that you find a hotel which surpasses your expectations, but bayview hotel, georgetown, penang did just that! a great position near the waterfront with water views from even a standard room and situated within the unesco listed world heritage town; this hotel offers great value, great comfort and a warm malaysian welcome.
Lovely Hotel and great reception ”
This is the second time we fly to Penang and the first time we stayed at Bayview Georgetown Hotel and we arrived early from Kuala Lumpur at around 11.45am and the receptionist was kind enough to let us check in as the check in time is 2pm and we were upgraded to Deluxe room even though we booked Superior. The room was cosy and they just newly renovated all the bathrooms and there was a bath tub and a standing shower, and the free wifi access was great and we were given two passwords, overall we really enjoyed the breakfast buffet and the hotel has a revolving restaurant and the dinner buffet was great.
Lovelly room with view”
stayed 4 nights at the bayview hotel and enjoyed the hospitality of staff. room was very clean and cleaning staff kept up the standard. walking distance away from tourist attractions and free shuttle bus that takes you around georgetown to many places. had lovely water views of penang bridge in distance and the gurney drive water. check in and out was fast and efficent and on whole a very good stay
Quiet, almost quaint and great for the undemanding”
i would give it a biased report, being from penang, having studied in the school just next to city bayview (as it was known then), being familiar with the family history of the man who built the hotel, spending my childhood wondering about penang's only revolving restaurant on its roof. so i've stayed at city bayview a few times since leaving penang, both on business and holiday. the location is perfect for either, with the heart of old georgetown a scenic walk away, and the movie-set like banking/business district smack in the middle. sandwiching bayview is e&o hotel, one of the great colonial-style hotels of raffles singapore/peninsula hong kong pedigree, and the blue mansion, a must-visit historical chinese mansion (with rooms you can stay in). the hotel is somewhat aged, but kept serviceable, the rooms are reasonably priced, and you can't tell the old wing from the new (you used to be able to). it's perfect for folk who aren't armed with fantasies of westin/four seasons/hyatt standards on a quarter of the budget. folk who enjoy the world's best hawker fare. folk who like a bit of old world charm, overbearing tropical sunshine, shaved ice desserts standing; madcap, noisy blend of asian culture. down one road, the first la salle school in south east asia, the penang museum, the courthouse, the esplanade, fort cornwallis, queen victoria memorial clock tower, downing street, weld quay and the ferries to butterworth. down the other, pre-war shophouses, dying trades, old cinemas, line clear nasi kandar, little india, komtar. right downstairs, colonial shophouses and bungalows-turned clubs and bars. and a quaint, old cemetery by a quaint old catholic church. and right on top, the revolving restaurant with a view. that, strangely, i've yet to visit. yup. it's one place you could stay at.
The bayview hotel in Georgetown is a perfect base for a stay in Penang - unless your reason for staying on the Island is only for the beach. It is located near the heart of the old historical city and the old town is a lovely place just to wander around. There are many beautiful buildings and lots of place to get great food and some thing to drink. Hotel is clean comfortable and the breakfast is great value.
Holiday on Penang Island”
Bayview Hotel Georgetown (BHG) is an excellent gateway to Penang Island. Strategically located right in the middle of Penang City Centre, BHG is only a walk away to local attractions, food centres, shopping, and a whole lot of other attractions including Gurney Drive. Definitely fantastic for the family.
Hi Rusli, Thank you for such an excellent rating and taking the time to share your feedback and tips. I am sure that the information will be useful to other travelers. We look forward to delighting you and your family again on your next trip to Penang. Best Regards, Lynne Choong Hotel Manager
Review for Bayview Hotel Georgetown”
I stayed for two weeks in Malaysia and Singapore, and this was my favorite hotel during the whole trip. The hotel is very big and clean, and is located right in the middle of Georgetown, so it is easy to get anywhere, even by walking. Upper Penang is right down the street for nightlife, there are great restaurants and hawker stalls all nearby. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Bayview is an international hotel chain, so their standards are high. I enjoyed my stay there very much.
The hotel is located close to amenities and the world heritage site, all within walking distance. Best of all there is a regular "free" bus service that will bring tourists around Georgetown. This is a strongly recommended sightseeing trip for tourists who have not seen the real part of the city. At the hotel tourist can pick up the "Pocket Penang" Tourist Heritage Map & Guide, containing a Tourist Priviledge Card, for shopping perks, with special discounts, during their stay in Penang. This pocket size booklet (hard cover) has a i page folded map contains also informations on Georgetown attractions, bus information, useful information, Georgetown Best food & the write up on the Tourist Priviledge a Card as well!
