It's an OK place, Pushkar is fine for a night. It's no different to any other city in Rajasthan. It's dirty and polluted!
Ajmer is good city for religious tour but other than that there is nothing much to visit. All cab driver and Auto Rikshah Driver will try to make fool of you to earn hefty amount for small distance.
It is better if you are having your own drive. Even cab Driver did not come after giving us commitment to drop us at Railway station and we need to take the local transport at the last moment. People are are not very generous as I had experienced in Udaipur, Bikaner and jaiselmar trips previously.
Old religious city of temples and Dargah. Not a true tourist place. If you are going to Udaipur, than definitely spent a night there.
A nice city with simple people, but avoid purchases on the Dargah sharif road, as there the prices are hiked up by upto 300 % of everything as there shopkeepers and autodrivers know that the people are tourists from outside coming to see the Dargah Sharif and do not know about real prices in Ajmer.
Ajmer by itself is a very inexpensive if you are not fleeced by crook shopkeepers at the dargah road. Come down to swami complex to eat. You'll find good restraunts much cheaper than the roadside 'dhabas' serving crap food.
ajmer is a spiritual city with beautiful sights like the Anasagar lake and some very good street food specially at the madina restaurant (opp the railway station) the mansingh hotel has a great bar and places to visit are are the edward museum and the naya bazaar for street shopping
