Almaty very nice city clean and you can find the city life and just 10-15 minutes by car you can get to mountain and so many things to do there
Almaty has lots of places that show its rich history and culture. Elegant buildings are aplenty. Since it is the former capital of Kazakhstan, there are a lot of historic buildings.
Their houses are Soviet time so it takes you back to their history. The people are nice only most speak Russian. So it is best to learn their language before coming. They are great in taking care of visitors. Best to buy local stuff at parks or muesums rather in the airport. In the airport, i was surprised to see the prices in Euro. It makes the prices times three or five for some.
Almost all citizen in Almaty can't speak and listen any English. The traveller should be better to download some offline translator or you will be just like a handicapped who can't speak and listen.
People in Kazaphtan mainly understand Russian, like other central asia. It is heard to find a tour, like sight seeing (in English) The city does not seem to promote tourism for foreigner.
Hoever the city is richer than other central asia. National Museum was worth to see.
