The City of Brighton and Hove was formed in 2000 when these two neighboring communities came together to form a unitary authority. The area is known to have something of a Bohemian atmosphere as it is popular with music and media types and has a large gay community. It carries the moniker of London-by-the-Sea and showcases oriental architecture. The city is easily reached thanks to its close proximity to London, and a train ride from Gatwick takes only 25 minutes.

Getting around in Brighton and Hove is easy thanks to an extensive public transportation network of buses, trains, and taxis. Cycling is a growing for of travel and recreation as the area is one of the “Cycling Demonstration Towns” for Cycling England. A long list of attractions and festivals keep the visiting traveler busy and entertained. The Palace Pier offers a seafront arcade, and the Royal Pavilion is a pleasure palace known for its interesting architecture. North Laine offers shops, cafes, and bars.
