Traveler impressions of Budapest

More about Budapest

Hungary's ancient capital, Budapest is rich in history, stunning architecture, and a vibrant culture. Budapest is served by Ferihegy International Airport which is located east of Budapest and connected to the city by train, bus, or taxi.

Budapest is divided into two parts; Buda on the western and Pest on the eastern banks of the Danube River. Both sides are easily accessible by metro, tram, bus, and water taxi. Budapest budget hotels and five-star luxury hotels can be found on both sides of the river. Older, more affordable hotels are predominantly in Buda, while modern high-end hotels are more likely to be found in Pest.

The Royal Palaceis one of the most popular attractions, located on top of the suitably named Castle Hill. After exploring the palace, don't miss a visit to the National Museum and enjoy a coffee on the terrace. A popular outdoor activity is a visit to the Labyrinth, which was formed by natural hot springs and transformed into a raid shelter during World War II.

Shopping is available all over the city and tends to be more quaint in Pest, while the more modern shops are found in Buda. After a long day of shopping and sightseeing, unwind at one of Hungary's traditional bath houses.

Dinning in Budapest is full of many exciting options, and it's an experience not to be missed. Pest is home to the famous Great Market Hall, a large area where small traditional eateries can be found and where locals and travelers can enjoy a hearty meal.

There’s much more to see and learn about Budapest, and the interactive map is a great way to continue exploring all the important landmarks and attractions of this vibrant city.
