LOVE the beach in Dong Hoi. We took the city bus from Phong Nha to Dong Hoi at 8am. Arrived at 9:30 or so.
We took the cab to the beach and stayed at a restaurant name Kieu Hoa (address: Nhat Le beach, 2 Truong Phap street, Dong Hoi city, Quang Binh province -- Phone: 052.3828.156 or 0946.923.976). We hung out, swam in a beautiful beach, ate great food, met new friends (other lunch goers came and shared our big tent/gazebo/covered area). We left to Dong Hoi airport on time. We had a great time there.
Loved it here! Our favourite place in Vietnam. Not many tourists and no hassle from vendors and/or cyclo drivers.
Beautiful riverfront! The people were very friendly!
The town is fair quiet, but sometimes in Veitnam that is nice in itself to have the break from the hectic pace of the larger cities.
It's a great place to just walk and unwind for 48hrs then head off to the local National Park.
It is not beautiful, but it is a good base for the caves and National Parks. It is also very friendly and easy to walk around.
Small place with restaurants and bars in very short supply. Most things have shut up by 9pm and the streets are deserted.
We ate in the hotel one night as places to eat on Dong Hoi are very basic and most toilet facilities are awful. It is the best area to stay for a visit to the caves, amazing full day trip. Glad we had only planned 2 nights here, it is enough.
Very sparse town. No real centre to it. Very little english spoken. Lack of restaurants. Good base to visit the caves and national park.
Cheap accomodation. Nice enough river and a decent beach - although it's all very spread out. I would only go here to base myself to visit the national park.
