It's a very beautiful city, it's nice to stay here on Christmas Holidays, and it's important to go from Gdansk to Sopot to see the Baltic Sea, it's amazing.
Too much to see in 2 days but 5 would be OTT unless you plan doing further traveling and using Gdansk as base.
If you only do one thing, then visit Westerplatte is a must.
A great city to visit in Spring/Summer. So much to see and do. I was there when the St Dominiks Fair was on.
WoW! Good food to try and lot and lots of stalls!! You can also try bunge jumping and there is a big area for kids rides. Great architecture and lots of things for photographers to take pics of. Whilst you are there, definitely go and see the Solidarity Centre, which is an ultra modern building/museum, which shows what there the events that lead to the fall of communism in Europe (and it wasn't the fall of the Berlin wall!!). Gdansk is also a good base to stay and then you can also make side day trips to the especially beautiful city of SOPOT with its beaches and boardwalk/pier and great restaurants, which is quickly accessible by train.
