Mr. Charles was recommended to us by a fellow traveler while in Chiang Mai who had just spent a month in Myanmar, and it couldn’t have been a better place to stay (thank you fellow traveler!). The problem I encountered a lot while traveling through Myanmar is that I was making reservations during my trip, but didn’t always have access to a printer to make a copy of the...

Our stay at river lodge was amazing. The location near a Shan village is peaceful and relaxing. The food is delicious (try the brown sticky rice). The staff was very kind and Mimi, the daughter of Mr Charles, helped us organizing our trip in Myanmar. This is the best hotel and location in Hsipaw and we hope to come back soon.

We had a lovely stay at Red Dragon Hotel! We travelled to Hsipaw by train from Mandalay. A representative from the hotel actually met us on the train about 30 minutes outside of Hsipaw and once at the station took us to free transport to the hotel. This made our arrival so very smooth and was much appreciated after the 11+ hours on the train! The location is just o...

Riverside @ Hsipaw is a new hotel with large, nicely decorated rooms, large bathrooms and beautiful views of the river from the restaurant and guest rooms. Staff were very mostly friendly and helpful. The manager is slightly supercilious. Breakfasts were great, and the food ranged from fine to really very good indeed. I had fun touring the local Shan villages, arranged...

Arrived in Hsipaw feeling rather ill but we were delighted with this hotel as it was exceptionally clean and fresh, a great place to recover. Staff were friendly and attentive, breakfast was the best yet after being in Myanmar for 3wks. Highly recommended.

Amazing and cheap guesthouse in the center of the city. Just 500mt far from the train station. Room are nice and clean, the staff is really helpful and nice. Ping pong table for free. Giant breakfast included. They can help you to arrange the trekking and to moove somewhere else. Definitely reccomended !

Great place to stay in Hsipaw, staff are very friendly and welcoming on arrival. We had a double room with a private bathroom, super hot water and amazing pressure! The shared bathrooms were clean and tidy as well although we didn't use them. Breakfast was also amazing - buffet style, eggs, pancakes, soup, fruit and toast, unlimited coffee and tea. Nice communal space ...

Undoubtedly the best hotel in Hsipaw. The hotel is exceptionally clean, the staff are extremely helpful. The breakfast was the best so far as it is cooked to order. They provide free use of cycles and organise trips and ongoing travel arrangements. The room is spacious with comfy beds and pillows. The bathroom is spotless with hot water. The a/c is great. I would liken...

We had several good details from this hotel. - We arrived at 5am and we could get our room anyway. - The room was on the ground floor, next to the kitchen. It was a lot of noise around, so we asked for a change. We had our new upstairs room 30 minutes later. - The stuff was very helpful and gave us great recommendations for our activities in Hsipaw. - They have Shan ...

Friendly and helpful staff. Room had desk, mini fridge, a/c. Good breakfast buffet included. A restaurant is next door but I liked Club Terrace by river several blocks away best. Wi-fi poor. Central location one block north of highway on main road. Hsipaw is small enough to walk anywhere.

Conveniently located, near the two markets, near the river, Lily the Home Hotel (a new building of 6 months of age) is the best deal in Hsipaw. Lily is still here, and it is obvious that she likes customers. His son, who runs the hotel now, is in the same mood ! Staff very kind and helpful with informations, treks. Rooms are spacious, clean and well equipped. Copious b...

This is a decent place by Myanmar standards. The rooms were clean, and they serve your choice of breakfast right outside your room. Showers were hot, and wifi was okay. I will say that pretty much only one of the guys working there speaks even a little English, so if you ask any of the other employees a question or need anything, you have to wait until they get him to ...

The best hotel with a view in Hsipaw! Thomas the GM, a French national who speaks fluent Burmese, leads a team of local staff to offer excellent hospitality. The highlight is the view from their restaurant, overlooking a small Hsipaw village. The interior is modern but added a local touch to it. The hotel also has swimming pool for you to relax. You can also captur...

Traveler impressions of Hsipaw
Hsipaw was a wonderful break from the big cities we had previously visited. The drive from Mandalay was a bit nerve wracking, but the end was worth it.
A great little hidden gem. Really enjoyed the guides taking us to different areas and telling us about the local and indigenous culture.
There a number of interesting places to visit such as Little Bagan, Shan Palace, the tribal villages, temples, waterfall, etc.
we stayed 1,5 days (2nights) in Hsipaw. Looking back it was not really enough. You can easily spend 4-5 days there.
We went for a bit of (lazy) trekking, looking for origanal dresses etc. In Myanmar bike-renting is forbidden but in rural Hsipaw the police kindly turns their eyes away, so we had two days of biking around (6 dollar/day) Never found 'real' hill tribes, and perhaps better so.
Great Shan food. Wonderful people from a variety of ethnic groups. One of a kind candle-light market from 2 till 6 am.
Hsipaw is an interesting, small city with attractive, rural Myanmar culture, history and trekking adventures available.

More about Hsipaw
The Shan Palace is still a popular attraction for many visitors to Hsipaw, as it was home to the last prince of Hsipaw used to live there with his wife and children until he disappeared and is believed to have been killed during the 1962 coup. There are visiting hours for when it’s possible to enter the Palace and get a firsthand account of life before military rule.
As a reward for waking up especially early at least once, don’t miss a chance to visit the vibrant Hsipaw Morning Market, which ends by six in the morning and features many interesting and unique souvenirs. Just a few kilometers outside of town, the religiously significant Bawgyo Pagoda can be found. It is one of the most revered pagodas in the region, and is therefore a popular destination.
