More about Madiun

The city of Madiun is located in East Java, about halfway between Surabaya and Surakarta. It is known for being the center of the railway industry. Nicknames associated with Madiun include the City of Railroad and the City of Industry. Travelers looking to visit can utilize the Adisumarmo International Airport near Solo to make for a more convenient arrival.

There is plenty to see in and around Madiun. On the slope of Mt. Wilis is the district of Kare which has a coffee plantation and a waterfall. In Gemarang, beautiful rice paddies set the scene for a visit to a peacock sanctuary. And in Wungu, dine on fish from the rivers while enjoying the views. Nearby towns and sites are within easy reach of Madiun for exploration, including the hill station of Tawangmangu and the tourist city of Yogyakarta. Two of the world’s most notable religious sites, the Buddhist Borobudur and the Hindu temples of Prambanan, are both within reach of Madiun and are undeniably must-see attractions. The Sangiran Early Man Site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with an archeological treasure trove that can be examined at the on-site museum.
