"When we arrived we were given mint tea on arrival and had people greet us as soon as we got out the taxi they looked after our bags. They gave us a free upgrade to a pool view. More about Marrakech

Marrakech has long been a popular tourist destination, known for its ancient inner city, unique heritage homes, beautiful Moorish architecture, and the Atlas Mountains that rise behind the city giving it an impressive skyline.

The city is served by Marrakech-Menara Airport, which links the city between many international cities including London and Paris. It is also possible to reach the city via the other international airport in Casablanca and then arranging for a connecting local flight or ground transportation into Marrakech.

The city is divided into two parts, one being the ancient city known as the Medina, and the more modern city of Ville Nouvelle or Gueliz. The Medina is a maze of narrow alleys, souks, and traditional homes known as Riads, which feature unique architecture and a courtyard. The mosques and markets of the Medina and all its mosques and markets undoubtedly make up the city's biggest attraction, and one of the main events is the Djemaa El-Fna, certainly the busiest in Africa. By day, Djemaa el Fna is the main square inside the Medina and a popular meeting place where snake charmers, traditional Berber performers, and local juice vendors hawk their fares. At night, the square transforms into a lively and crowded bazaar of predominantly food stalls. Behind the square are the souks, selling everything from carpets to Berber shoes to bags of spices.

For travelers seeking a glimpse into 19th-century Morocco, the El Bahia Palace is a must-see destination. At an impressive 160 rooms, the palace features tiled interior courtyards, archways, carved stucco panels, intricate mosaics, and classic painted latticework. Many Riads in Marrakech feature similar design traits and are imbued with significant history and romance, especially those inside the Medina walls.

Of course, there’s a lot more to see and do in Marrakech and the best way to discover what else this city has to offer in terms of attractions, landmarks, and hotels is by exploring the interactive map on this page.
