The location is perfect but it’s the personal the best! I didn’t book anything and I went to the travel agency the didn’t do nothing for me, not commercial at all. I explained this to the personnel and they hooked for me a driver to do a trek around Mawlamyine and booked my bus ticket and the taxi ! You don’t need a guide to discover around Mawlamyine and I will recomm...

Our stay at this hotel was rather short, due to the worst traffic jam ever encountered in Myanmar, a 4.5 hour standstill from 9pm to 1.30am near Kyondo, Kayin State along the main Myawady to Hpa-an highway due to a major Kayin full moon festival. So after arriving at the hotel at 4.10am after a 10 hour drive from Myawady (normally a 3.5-4.5 hour journey depending on ro...

This hotel is really great. The boss is a very nice lady, who cares for everybody, so you really feel at home. Probably that's why the atmosphere is so great. The whole staff is very attentive, the rooms are clean, the garden is like an oasis. It's no problem, that the hotel is a little bit out of town, because they always arrange cheap taxi transports. They also offe...

The basic rooms are tiny, with not much more space than what the bed occupies. The linen appeared not to have been washed in between guests and had bugs, though seems like they weren't bed bugs as there were no bites. The staff was okay, no problems. You do need to leave the key when you go out and they close the doors around 10:30pm, though this is okay as there is re...

A great place to stay at in Mawlamyine, good WiFi, clean rooms, next to the bus station and down the street from the train station. The best value for your money that I found in Myanmar with exceptional service as well. A little far from downtown but there isn't much to do there anyways.

I wonder what people complain about. It's not the Hilton but I didn't pay for this kind of service either. Pros: - Didn't have to ask for breakfast, it was served both days and was delicious and in big portions - Cheap - Next to the train station and pagodas' hill (perfect to enjoy the sunset); shops and street food across the street - The staff would do their...

The owner, who speaks a little bit English and the staff are very friendly and helpful. But the a part of the hotel (there are 3 different buildings within 100m distance) is quite noisy. Trucks hunks quite often during the night. No hot shower, bathroom very basic. I killed 4 cockroaches during one night. Not talking about the aunts. Ok, aunts are not a problem, but 4...

The staff were extremely helpfull. Sometimes too attentive! They cooked some delicious meals. The location was close to the train station and a short walk/ motorbike to the river side and Pagodas. Room was also a high standard. A little expensive, but all of Myanmar is at the moment. High quality!

Place was clean. It’s not near water front, but can walk in 25 minutes. But if you stay at water front you’ll end up walking or taking a Tuk tuk anyways to see things. The advantage is it’s quieter Great view from breakfast roof top. It was the best value for a solo traveler like me. Unbelievable cheap with breakfast. The breakfast was just ok. Nothing ...

Mawlamyine is seriously lacking in accommodation options. If you can't get a room at the Cinderella, I'd consider this to be the next best option. It's a bit farther from the main part of town (about 20 minutes walking) but it's a nice walk along the river or cheap motorcycle taxi ride. My room was huge, strong air conditioning, and I was satisfied with the western b...

We finished our three week long trip in Myanmar with a couple of nights at the Attran Hotel in Mawlamyine. Attran Hotel has a prime location right next to the river. Our room was large and well maintained with a new air conditioning, the bathroom had new wall tiles and new sanitary ware with design taps. The restaurant was very good. It also had a large outdoor veranda...

The Mawlamyine Strand Hotel was the most expensive place I lodged while in Myanmar for 24 days. I decided to splurge for one night near the end of my trip at a place that looked to offer superior comfort and cleanliness. I was not disappointed in these areas. The room was clean and spacious. The bed and pillows were the most comfortable of all the places I stayed i...

In a remote location in the town. Very little English spoken. Communication very difficult. No breakfast provided and no restaurants nearby. Seemingly not organized at all to assist with visitor tour requirements, certainly English speaking ones. Staff were as helpful as they could be though and the room was spotless.

I stayed in two different rooms for four days. The friendly courteous and helpfull staff, the clean fresh and vibrant room, the excellent location which near to everithing one needs, make my first visit to mawlamyine fantastic. Kudos Than Lwin Sessar motel.

Traveler impressions of Mawlamyine
Mawlamyaing City is very, very tense. The religious & ethnic friction is palpable. It feels like a place ready to boil over in violence.
Went to Commonwealth War Cemetery south of Mawlyamine by local bus 21/2 hours to celebrate my dad being here 1942-43 British architecture, great pagodas in Mawlyamine along t ridge overlooking River Salween Less touristy than others spots so,I liked that.
Mawlamyine is a charming town with a lot of history. Mostly individual tourists go as far as Mawlamyine, which makes the place even more special and less commercial.
Shampoo island is an interesting island where monks and nuns live and is well worth a visit. There are also plenty of attractions outside of the city including Thanbyuzayat (location of the Allied War Cemetery and the end of the Death Railway), isolated Setse Beach and as a launching pad to Hpa-an and Kayin (Karen State) with easy overland access to Mae Sot in Thailand via Kawkareik in about 4-6 hours or via Nok Air mini in 25-30 mins.
Mawlamyine is a beautiful old colonial town. It is small and few tourists come here, which has kept prices low.

Very friendly staff at reception as well as in the dining room for breakfast. Room was clean and modern with good facilities and reasonably good wifi connection. The breakfast was adequate however, lacked a little variety; more choices, especially traditional Myanmar noodles like Moehingga would be nice. The location is ideal, being close to the train station, highway...
