Traveler impressions of Miaoli

More about Miaoli

Conveniently located in central Taiwan, Miaoli is a favorite vacation destination that attracts millions of local and international tourists every year. Being right in the middle of Taiwan’s Mountain Line, Miaoli is easily accessed by bus or rail from Taipei or other surrounding cities.

Conveniently, Miaoli Railway Station is located right in the city center and is surrounded by many hotels and other accommodations. Tourists of this city should not miss a trip to the city’s famous night market, which takes place right behind the railway station and is therefore easy to find even for first-time visitors.

Every year during late February and early March, Yuqing Temple becomes the center of an important festival that brings people from all over the world to take part. In the temple square, several dragons that have been designed beautifully are gathered for nightly activities such as a folk parade, dragon dancing, and showing of the many figures that are built specifically for this festival. The days-long celebration will culminate in what’s known as “dragon bombing,” which is when the intricately-designed dragons are filled with firecrackers and literally bombed. This festival is obviously very popular, and is a great spectacle for tourists who may happen to be in town during the festivities. The procession takes place all over the area, most parades going from the temple square to Yuqing Park and other parts of the city.

There’s much more to see and learn about Miaoli, and the interactive map on this page is a great way to see where the attractions and hotels of this interesting city are located.
