This was easily the best place we stayed at during our three-week journey through Japan. Its not because of the room itself, which might not be very fancy (but clean and comfy). Nor because of the bathroom and toilets, which could perhaps use a small upgrade. But the atmosphere of this ryokan is amazing, as is the hostess and the food! The ryokan is located in an old ...

Our best ryokan/minshuku experience during our first trip in Japan. Room was really comfortable. The whole house was really quiet, and we enjoyed wandering in Magome in the evening, once all day-trippers have left. Food served at dinner and breakfast was just delicious, one of the best we had in Japan. Staff was really nice. Highly recommended.

Japan style bathing soaking in River hot springs. Healing waters for joints, muscles and making your skin soft. The rooms are normal with choice of western or Japanese tatami styles. Go for the full tatami experience. The spa hot spring is nude and you must shower before soaking (tradtional bath house rules) separate mens/womens. The breakfast is a feast of tradi...

The staff were very friendly and accomodating, location 2km from the station but the cost of a taxi was reasonable and there were a few places to eat around the hotel. We stayed here to do the Kiso Valley trek and this hotel was ideal for that. Bed was quite hard and uncomfortable.

We stayed one night at Guest House gaku Magome and we absolutely loved it. The guest house is located in an old school, a few minutes walk from Magome Post Town centre. Facilities are amazing (I loved the wood everywhere) beds are comfortable and spacious, kitchen is fully equipped. Lovely touch, they take you at 18:30 to the local osen, totally worth it! Highly recomm...

great place - little different though. Staff excellent, facilities good as they service a private golf club, plenty of space for kids in common areas. Oversized accommodation for volume of guest. Main draw back is it is 20 minutes out of town and pretty isolated with cabs or private car the only transport. Could be a plus if need to get away from the hustle and bus...

If you expect a traditional western hotel, this is not the place for you, If you want the ryokan (traditional old style Japanese houses) you are going to get in love of this place. Beautiful, Japanese style, in the middle of this little town in the mountains (it's like being in a fairy tale. Marvelous and tasty dinner and breakfast of traditional Japanese food. If you...

I have stayed in 15+ different hotels in Japan, and each of them was almost impeccable. The fact that this hotel is not bookable through my regular booking website should have warned me. This hotel is the exception to the high quality of Japanese hotels, even though it charges the same price as other hotels. My room was run down and smelled like cigarettes and old ...
