After earthquake, Padang transforms into new town, with many new buildings and hotels. Padang famous for it's culinary, specially RENDANG.
Padang food and cake either by native Padang or Chinese born at Padang, both are very delicious. Must try Sate Padang also at its origin. At Padang, you can easily find stores selling 'kripik' or keropok made from cassava and other delicious eateries. Famous place selling this is Christine Hakim. Padang also famous for beaches. Cerocok beach, Pantai Air Manis or Sikuai Island.
Small town, once destroyed by major earthquake, but is still peaceful and relaxing. Get to know the Minangkabau culture which originated from this region.
besides a sea tours in padang, you can either explore other cities in West Sumatra, such as bukittinggi and Painan which is only about 2 to 3 hours

Padang is not a nice city to be in. There is nothing to do, nothing to buy and nothing to see. If you are a foreigner some people look down on you.
Not a nice feeling. It is dirty there is no pavement, ,there is nothing in fact. the only good thing are the taxis wich are cheap and reliable.
A place for authentic most famous "Padang" food. Sight seeing in old chinatown and "muara" is interesting.
Padang has nothing much to offer.the town is littered with rubbish and smelly too.it does not have much activity to offer and we decided to betterstay in the hotel after sightseeing by horse cart.

- Padang is not a very big city. - Nice buildings, mostly traditional buildings or modern buildings with traditional decoration or tone.
So you can really feel if you are in Padang by looking at the buildings. - Once you are in Padang, it is recomended to go to Bukittinggi, about 2 hours drive, see the beautiful view of Ngarai Sianok and the historical Jam Gadang, enjoy the nice local culinary. You can also enjoy the beauty of Danau Singkarak and Danau Maninjau (2 large lakes) and Gunung Marapi (an active volcano) and Gunung Singgalang (a non active volcano).

and the people of the minang kabau are very very nice.
I like Padang for the beach but the weather is hot and humidity is high. The people are not too friendly.
and they really don't know much about queuing and litering. The city could be much better with lots of interesting places to be visited if only the local government could pay extra attention on the environment and the facilities..

Padang is worth a few day's stay for at least the following reasons: - food! rendang, the ubiquitous dish of Indonesia, can be had in its various forms.
other culinary adventures includes sea food and if you eat pork, the wonderful culinary treasures of the Padang old chinatown - beaches and island hopping right from the city port - shopping for Padang crafts such as embroidered clothing and woven sarongs.
Padang is a city with airport. Nothing much there besides beach. Can stay overnight to catch flight or to transfer to island nearby like mentawi.
For sightseeing need to go bukit tinggi, take about 2 hours drive from padang and you can view paddy field, beautiful lake and visit lubang japan there.
