"My favorite hotel in Siem Reap! Although the street in front of it needs some fixing (terrible on rainy nights), the hotel itself is lovely. Loved my room that I ended up booking 3 nights! Was supposed to book another night but the price suddenly went high. Lol. The room that i booked is spacious and clean. I loved my big, comfy, clean bed; the new and spacious bathroom; the bathrobes (I have a thing for soft comfy ones); the shiny clean wooden floors, and even though it’s right in the center, I didn’t hear any noise during my stay unlike in the other hotels I stayed at. Staff was helpful and friendly too. I really enjoyed staying in this hotel. Only downside is their terrible breakfast choices. Was supposed to have one in their restaurant until I went around and saw the food lol but this hotel is amazing if you plan to just walk around. It’s a skip and a hop to the night market and pub street. Will most likely stay here again when I come back :)"

"This is a superb hotel. Small and Friendly with great staff. Our room was lovely and everything worked fine and the place was spotless. The hotel is near a road which although not a main road runs along the river. There is some road noise but this is inevitable giving it's location and no different from anywhere else in Siem Reap. It did not distract from our stay at all. We booked a car and driver and a guide for two consecutive days and it was the best money we ever spent. Not only was the guide knowledgeable but we got to see the temples when most people weren't there! At some temples it felt like we where the only ones there! This allowed us to get some great photos although we didn't bother to get up for sunrise (which can be hit and miss). TIP: When you go to lunch, take the driver and guide with you. Although you'll have to pay for their meal the advice and interesting stories are well worth it! The guide was suprised when we offered for them to eat with us which I thought strange (only 1 in 20 people do apparently) and they miss out on a great deal of extra information. Cold bottled water was plentiful in the car and the air conditioning much appreciated although only 32 degrees. The food in the Hotel was superb and my only regret was not eating there more often but I always for some reason tend to head out into town which is a 5-10 min walk or a $1 tuk tuk ride. In all a great four days and I would return in a flash. Remember however to tip locals as there basic wages are very low. A dollar here or there is well received. Take US dollars in smallish bills $20 or less. There is a supermarket just around the corner if you need anything. WiFi works but don't expect to download a movie in HD. Buying a Smart Sim for $10 at the airport gives you 4G in nearly all places and 3G elsewhere. We also had a complimentary meal which I though would be a bit lack lustre but turned out to be one the best we had whilst we where there."

"Diamond D’ Angkor offers an exceptional level of hospitality and utmost comfort. The hotel offers complementary airport transfer which is very much welcomed. Centrally located, the hotel is 15mins drive from the airport and 10mins walk from the famous Pub Street. Upon reaching the hotel, the beautiful decor and spacious lobby will make you feel right at home. The room is spacious, clean and comfortable. Some rooms are also pool facing. The greatest joy from staying here will be the service. The staff are incredibly friendly and professional. They can help you plan your days in Cambodia and Angkor Wat. We would like to especially commend Mr John and Mr Len for their warmth and amazing service. They really make us feel welcomed throughout our stay in Siem Reap. They even gave us a traditional Khmer scrawl upon check-out! It has been a pleasure staying at this hotel. Should we ever be back in Siem Reap, we will definitely stay here again!"

"The Cheathata Angkor hotel was a pleasure to stay at. My friends and I were there on May 2012. What is known as a 3 star Hotel in Siem Reap felt more like a 5 star retreat. The prices were pretty cheap as well for the room and the food was about $3 a dish and worth every penny. The room itself was large with a nice Queen sized bed. The room came with free wifi and cable and also had a mini bar which was pretty convienient. The staff were kind as well as friendly and helped us with all our needs. The bathroom needs better lighting, a bit low and on the romantic side and not the best for having a shave but other then that, no real down side to the room. On the roof top is a small but nice swimming pool with a 360' view of all down town Siem Reap. Sunny all day so bring some skin protection. Amazing view of the sun set as well. "

"My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Sarai. We booked through AGODA because i read their good reviews. I am glad to write that all the good reviews are true. Our booking with agoda did not include airport pick up. I tried to contact the hotel because we will be arriving late at night. They replied immediately that they wikk pick us up at no charge. Philip was there with our name on a board and a van waiting for us. There was cold water and cold towel. The hotel was about 30 minutes away. On our way, Philip asked for my booking details and check us in through his tablet. So when we got to the hotel, the front desk asked for a copy of our passports and after signing was given the key to our room. The room was big. The bed and pillows were soft and comfortable. There were toiletries, hair dryer, robes and tub. Breakfast was a selection of western and asian. Plus bread, fruits and yogurt, and your choice of coffee or fruit juice. The staff were all polite and gracious all the time. Whether its early morning, mid day or late at night. Every thing is one tuktuk away at $2. Mr vanna , tuktuk #5 was very helpful. Dont bother changing your money at the airport can pay in $ in Siem Reap. Special mention to Ziffan from the front desk who did not tire of our questions on where to eat and go. Oh tickets tothe national museum is available at the hotel with free pick up. Sokunthea of the goat tree restaurant majes good drip coffee. And to Philip. Thanks guys for making our siem reap vacation a wonderful experience. Angkor wat was magnificent!"

The bed was so soft and the pillows were just perfect. The shower was great and the room cleaner did a terrific job Breakfast was a good way to start the day and had everything to get you to lunch I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for your stay in Siem Reap and I will probably be booking in for Christmas this year 👍"

"We have absolutely enjoyed our 4 nights stay in this hotel. Memoire d Angkor has exceeded all of our expectations that a boutique hotel could offer, the BEST i have experienced so far. Hotel's location: 9/10 Hospitality: 9/10 Ambience: 7/10 (some renovation outside the hotel is ongoing) Comfort: 10/10 (GREAT beddings and pillows makes our return trip from Angkor a relaxing one) Room size: SPACIOUS WIFI: 9/10 Breakfast: 8/10 Minor touches: free laundry, mini bar service. They even decorate our room to a special honeymoon ambience ;) Being a first timer in Cambodia, this hotel has made our stay/ honeymoon the best experience ever. From our arrival reception by Mr. Pisid in Siem Reap International Airport to friendly hotel reception by Ms. Samlei (plus points: accommodating our early check-in; warm welcome refreshments; room/hotel briefing; Angkor Complex ground arrangements), friendly and knowledgeable Mr. Chan Sophanet (great hospitality; passionate & informative guide on Cambodian history, Khmer empire and Angkor complex appreciation; great refreshments on our return trip from angkor) our tuk tuk guide Mr. Cheng (humble, patient with our quirky needs) and not to forget, Mr. Khim (attentive banquet boy). All of the above names are worth mention as they have made our stay a memorable one. Our 5 days stay in Siem Reap is a very, very short trip and we will definitely come to this hotel again. Thank you Memoire d Angkor Boutique Hotel, a hidden gem of Siem Reap"

"Very much enjoyed my stay in Siem Reap and this hotel. Hotel is located along a long quiet street about 20mins walk from the town centre and 10mins to the riverside area which has a good selection of restaurants and cafes. Room had a good bed, reasonable shower (with relatively constant water temperature - very good for Asia) and was cleaned well every day. Staff are very helpful and always happy and polite. Had a couple of instances of power loss but quickly restored each time. Internet was better than expected with only minor interruptions (again good for Asia) and the only other issue was the garden is yet to be finished - hotel recently changed hands so they are working on improvements. Breakfast has 5 set menu choices which were all ok, fried rice option was my favourite (coffee not so good). Overall it's a nice place and good value for the rates charged. Siem Reap itself is quite a busy town typically with lots of scooters so need to take care when crossing the roads (feels a little like the Greek island towns 20yrs ago). It has a small river running through the town that has pathways all along both sides so nice for a stroll with busy bridges every 5mins or so along the route. The temples, floating villages and other sight seeing places are not so busy and very much worth seeing with Angkor Wat a very impressive must see visit for all travellers to the region. The Cambodian people, friendliness and politeness are a very welcome change from my current life in China and most can hold a conversation in English making everything much easier for a relaxing break. Although I have several more places I plan to visit while living in Asia I will almost certainly return to Cambodia again for another short R and R break. Loved the place, loved the people. "

The stunning temples of Angkor, with their intricate carvings and towering spires, stand as a testament to Cambodia's glorious past. Beyond the temples, Siem Reap boasts lush rice paddies, serene lakes, and vibrant markets that pulse with life. Whether you’re wandering through the bustling Old Market or enjoying a peaceful sunset over the Tonle Sap Lake, every corner of Siem Reap tells a story waiting to be discovered.

Siem Reap is also a melting pot of cultures, where traditional Khmer customs blend seamlessly with modern influences. The city is alive with art, music, and dance, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in local traditions. As night falls, the city transforms, with lively bars and restaurants inviting you to savor the local cuisine and mingle with fellow travelers.

Unveiling the Best Time to Experience Siem Reap

Timing your visit to Siem Reap can significantly enhance your experience, as the city offers different charms throughout the year. The best time to visit is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to February. During these months, the weather is pleasantly cool, making it ideal for exploring the temples and engaging in outdoor activities. Expect clear skies and lower humidity, perfect for capturing stunning photographs of the iconic Angkor Wat at sunrise.

March to June marks the hot season, with temperatures soaring, especially during the day. While this might deter some, it is also a time when fewer tourists visit, allowing for a more intimate experience with the temples. If you can handle the heat, you may find that the temples are less crowded, and you can enjoy a more personal connection with the ancient history surrounding you.

For those seeking a unique cultural experience, consider visiting during the rainy season from July to October. While you might encounter some rain, this is also the time when the landscape transforms into a lush green paradise. Additionally, several local festivals occur during this period, offering a glimpse into the vibrant culture of Cambodia. The Water Festival, celebrated in November, is a spectacular event where locals celebrate the reversing flow of the Tonle Sap River with boat races and festivities.

Essential Travel Tips for Your Siem Reap Adventure

When traveling to Siem Reap, being aware of local customs and practicalities can make your adventure much smoother. First and foremost, it's important to respect the local culture. Dress modestly when visiting temples, covering your shoulders and knees as a sign of respect. A friendly smile and a simple “soursdey” (hello) can go a long way in establishing rapport with locals, who are generally warm and welcoming.

Currency exchange is another key aspect to consider. The US dollar is widely accepted, and many transactions are conducted in dollars, so it's advisable to carry small denominations. Local currency, the Cambodian riel, is also used for smaller purchases. Be mindful of the exchange rates and consider withdrawing cash from ATMs, which are conveniently located throughout the city.

Learning a few essential phrases in Khmer can enhance your interactions. Besides “soursdey,” phrases like “orkun” (thank you) and “chhnang” (delicious) will surely delight the locals. Additionally, it's wise to have a basic understanding of the local dining etiquette. Tipping is appreciated in restaurants, and a small gesture can leave a positive impression. Lastly, staying hydrated and protecting yourself from the sun is crucial, especially during temple visits. Always carry a refillable water bottle and wear sunscreen to keep comfortable during your explorations.
