Traveler impressions of Sokcho-si

More about Sokcho-si

This sleepy town in Gangwon is a mountain climber’s paradise, and a great place in which to spend a few relaxing days away from the buzzing activity of a big city. There is no airport in Sokcho, but it’s possible to fly into neighboring airports and arrange for bus. Most travelers arrange for a bus directly from Seoul, arriving at Sokcho Bus Terminal. The nearest train station is over an hour away from Sokcho, so international travelers arriving into Seoul would be well advised to arrange a bus journey into Sokcho. There are several hotels near the bus terminal, within easy access of other public transportation to get to the major sites once settled in.

Sokcho’s biggest draw is as the gateway to Seoraksan National Park, one of the most beautiful mountainous parks in the country. Hotels near the national park are a great resource for planning the best way to explore this mountainous park. Travelers can also arrange for local tour guides, especially if language barrier might present a challenge. This park is the best place to do some mountain climbing, and enjoy the spectacular view from the top of the peak.

When not climbing the many peaks in Sokcho, head to the coastline to take in the quiet scenery of the East Sea, especially atmospheric at night with all the fireworks that locals like to set off.

There’s much more to see and learn about Sokcho, and the interactive map on this page is a great way to find out where the attractions and hotels can be found in this interesting city.
