Traveler impressions of Suwon-si

More about Suwon-si

The provincial capital of Gyeonggi is one of the most populated cities in the area, and has the advantage of being just 30 kilometers away from Seoul, perfect for international travelers looking for a quick getaway outside the big city. Suwon is best accessed by subway or commuter train from Seoul, although there’s also a bus service and the option of taking a taxi as well.

One of the most famous attractions of this city is the Hwaseong Fortress, which was built in 1796 and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s a good three-hour walk to get around the whole structure, and with the fresh air and scenic views, it is well worth the experience.

The Kyung Hee Astronomical Observatory is one of the best in the country, so visitors to this part of the country should not miss a visit. Since it’s owned and operated by the university, it’s a great choice for travelers with families or those who are interested in a little educational excursion while on vacation.

There’s much more to see and learn about Suwon, and the interactive map on this page is a great way to find out where the attractions and hotels can be found in this interesting city.
