Find Hotels in Ueda, Japan

this was a bit if a gamble as i took my niece to japan for her graduation and wasn't sure if she'd like the japanese style room. turns out we both loved it. i'd been to japan many times for business and was looking for something different. sleeping on the mats were a little hard on my old hips, but the fantastic soaking mineral baths more than made up for it. the owner's son speaks english well and was really helpful. the dinner served in the rooms was a feast and a unique experience. the town is fantastic and a different experience for anyone who has seen a lot of japan.

Clean, modern, safe, 5 minutes walk to Ueda station, 5 minutes walk to a host of restaurants and shops, right next to an all-night diner and Family Mart. No complaints at all. Onsen on the ground floor is simple but is all that you need. A gym, even if just a tiny one, would have been excellent but that's not going to prevent me from staying here again in the future. 2 thumbs up.

We booked the medium price of the room and it had a massage chair which make us very impressive! Having a long trip before stayed in this ozen made us tired and this massage chair was very helpful, private outdoor ozen was nice and very authentic, with 40mins outdoor public ozen for free which made us had a fabulous experience, food was amazing, although staffs didn't speak English well but we can feel they are very friendly, will come back again

This is the second time I have stayed at Ryokan Katsuraso, I came here five years ago and it was so memorable I wanted to bring my girlfriend out to see it. As it happened, she arrived as my girlfriend and left as my fiancée, so it is a special place to us. This is a family guesthouse, and it has all the character and charm of a small, local business. The inn is immaculately clean and the rooms are comfortable. We were given a western style room (I believe they brought beds in for our benefit) and whilst we would have preferred a Japanese style room, but were touched by the fact they had made the effort to accommodate our needs. There are three hot spring bathrooms, we tried two of them. They are perhaps a bit tired and in need of a bit of superficial repair, but they felt genuine and unfussy, and I would not change them. The location is very good, being right next to the old town and the Kitamuki-Kannon temple. It takes a bit of finding from the station if you don’t speak Japanese, but it really worth making the effort. Walking around the temple complex after dinner is a real treat. However, the best thing about Ryokan Katsuraso are the couple who run it. The wife speaks some English and made such an effort to make us feel welcome and to explain how the baths work, what things we could see in town and what all the food was. Oh the food! The husband is the chef and his work is worth travelling across the country to try. All the food is seasonal, immaculately presented and completely, absolutely sublime. On taste alone it was probably the best meal I have had all year, but the whole experience was one we will remember for a lifetime. If you would like to experience small-town Japan and have a genuine, unfussy but truly memorable Japanese experience, I can’t think of anywhere better to have it.

The owner of this property nishida Anzuan was an absolute legend so much respect for him. He would make sure you were well looked after drive you to some of your destination. Property was up in the mountains but that made it more worth while. Picked you up amd dropped you off at the train station when leaving what more could you want. The room i stayed in was beautiful. Well recommended.

I would not recommend this Hotel for following reasons It is quite a walk from the UEDA station and tucked away with nothing around it. The service was bizarre you dont get any interaction with Hotel owners/manager just a hand that comes out from under a tiny curtain and hole in the wall. Room stunk of smoke (was meant to be non smoking), airconditioner was so loud like a train coming thru the room. The only plus was the bathroom amenities...unbelievable, so many products to use from hairdryer/ curler with attachments, bath bombs, shaving stuff for guys, moisturisers and the list goes on. But I would not stay there again.
