Good location just across the Utsunomiya station, passing through a gyoza park (a couple of restaurants). Staff were super helpful, went out of the way just to help me with change for the laundry machines! Good as a base or retreat after a day trip to Nikko or Oya area. Breakfast options were really good, only small downside is your clothes may smell a little (they d...

Great location in front of Utsunomiya Station, easy to get meal for dinner. Altough my rooms looks dated, but have enough space than other hotel and cleans. The carpet smelly, but after open the window for a while and open aircond will be OK. Breakfast with standard meal but OK for the price. Stay for 2 nights without any complain. Thanks

I booked this hotel for my father who was visiting Utsunomiya, and doesn't speak any Japanese. The staff were incredibly friendly, and helped keep his luggage when we went to Nikko for a few days, and when we got back, they had given him the same room, with the luggage waiting for him inside! No complaints about the room either - clean and even has one English channel ...

I walked from Tokyo to Nikko during the Golden Week, a time when people and families travel all over. The staff and facilities were pretty standard at Smile Hotel. The staff followed all the rules of hospitality, but did nothing above-and-beyond to make the environment any warmer. The rooms felt a bit dorm-like, especially with giant, heavy, metallic doors and the cram...

We've used this hotel three times as a base from which to travel to MotoGP at Motegi race circuit. The hotel is somewhat similar to a Formule1 in europe but the rooms all have their own bathrooms. Rooms are clean, a good size, well equipped and quiet. Staff are professional and do their very best to help even though they speak little english. There is an optional bre...

This is my second time to another branch of Select Inn. The staff is friendly, room prize is very affordable with free breakfast, and free parking available for people who drive. Just less than 10 minutes walk, there's a big shopping mall opposite and 5 minutes drive to Gyoza street at Utsunomiya.

The hotel is place near by local train and close to JR rail station about 2 minute walk , If you stand in east wing of JR , you can see Port hotel stand in front of you . Our traditional Japanese room with tatami mats was so big! Beds were very comfortable and balcony with seating was lovely with a view of the forest. It was so peaceful at night and during the day. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We utilised the hotels electric bicycles and rode around town and visited museums and pottery street. Hotel onsen was large and relaxi...

The hotel offer more than the major hotels would to a simple family type travelers like us. The wifi was fast, room was big enough for 3 of us . We speaks no Japanese so having a few staff who could communicate in english was really helpful. The hotel is located along the main road on this little district. Plenty to do here but do check out the timing before coming. ...

Traveler impressions of Utsunomiya
Compared to other Japanese cities this is not a city to visit for fun. The people are busy and the city is relatively dirty for a Japanese city.
Being so close the the railway makes it an ideal place for those wishing to visit the beautiful Nasu Highlands, and the short train ride to Nikko where the Cultural Heritage Park is situated.
