A wonderful city with many attractions. However, it is not a friendly city for people who drive because there are not many parking areas available on street and parking on the building site is expensive and far from major attractions.
We stayed in washing DC for 4 nights and after the 2nd night we had enough and wanted to leave. If you are not interested in looking at museums or buildings there is not much else to do and therefore it can extremely boring.
The restaurants are good and not that expensive.
In Washington DC you can find all cultural landmarks, museums etc. Close by, in Virginia or Maryland you can go to some really nice country-side for hiking, skiing, rowing etc.
What I love about DC best is perhaps its population diversity. Racial boundaries are pretty much non-existent, and everyone appears to be openly accepting of one another.
DC also seems like a very safe town, at least in what I've been told is the "diamond". Excellent sights to see in DC (apart from the White House) and the city is exceptionally clean!
Washington DC is the best place to understand about the American history, respect to people, political thoughts, relation to other nations, government organization etc.
All places are located in a distance that can be reached by "hoop on & hoop off buses". The 4 routes of the buses are combined in such a way that the traveler may chose them self which area they prefer to see earlier. Wide roads with wide pedestrian too, many taxis; all these transportation facilities are giving good alternatives to visitors
A very safe city with much police presence especially around the monuments and government areas. Worth taking the time to walk the streets and see the area properly.
Washington DC is a lovely city if you are looking for US histories. Allow yourself some extra time to get into the historical sites as there could be long queues.
If you can buy your tickets online, it would be recommended. Don't go in the summer as it can get way too hot. Families could enjoy the city too as it has plenty to offer for both the children and the adults.
Washing DC is ideal for anyone interested in museums and sightseeing. there are many landmarks to see and lots of walking to do so bring a good pair of shoes.
As the capital of the United States this is a must see. The museum system and the variety of things to go and absorb during a day are truly mind boggling.
I whole heatedly recommend that anyone who can go to Washington and take in the short, but poignant history of this country..
You must visit the monuments at night when they are the most beautiful. Also, you can find any cuisine you might desire from any where in the world.
The metro is a great tool to get your way around the city though walking is easy too.
What you would expect. A good place to learn more about the birth and consolidation of the USA. Do visit George Washington's home at Mount Vernon.
Also the Changing of the Guard at Arlington Cemetery. Ditto, the US Archives (with Constitution, Declaration of Independence, etc).
D.C is a quiet and well-organized city with excellent urban planning. the subway is convenient and clean, much much better than that of NYC.
it is one of the few cities I want to visit again.
I enjoyed sightseeing. I like museums and finding out about history. I didn't go shopping but think that sightseeing is DC's main sell.
International Spy Museum and National Air and Space museum were very good a I thoroughly enjoyed both. I am not sure which months are best as I went in an heat wave, however museums and shops have ac. The only thing that confused me were the fares at the metro, as in they didn't say what time was peak and off peak - other people I know were confused as to differing fares for differing members of the group over the same journey time. I have used the underground in other cities and they were much clearer. I still managed though and didn't get lost as the maps were clear.
Parking is very difficult. Try to stay near a metro stop. If you are a senior, you can not buy discounted fare at stops themselves.
We were told to try CVS, but they also said thy did not all senior fare card. Rates changed by time of day and by trip distance. The fare machines are difficult, but it seems that staff is provided at most (maybe all) stops to help tourists use the complex fare machines. He trains themselves are clean, quiet and comfortable, but do not go near the Lincoln, MlK and Vietnam memorials.
if you want to learn american history, DC would be the perfect destination. it has a lot of museums and goverment building to visit.
First, get to know how to get from Dulles Airport to downtown. We found the 5A Bus was very convenient and cost only $6.
00 for a very long trip. Second locate the nearest Metro Station and then use the Metro to get around-there are numerous conveniently located stations. The Metro Staff were extremely courteous. Most of the Museums/attractions are near the Metro. No need to use Taxis
Washing DC is good place for sightseeing and relax. We did not see anyone prefer to go shopping than other place in US.
Anyway it is beautiful city.
A place of culture and history. If museums and heritage are your kind of thing, Washington DC is the place for you.
We enjoy the trip with BIG BUS tour , there is alot of attractions to see with helpful staff. Its better than NYC
A very clean and friendly city with something for just about everyone, except those who want hiking skiing etc.
Can run safely on malls around Smithsonian and the monuments.Culture, history, government, great food and night life, many hotels and locations to choose from. Smithsonian and the monuments should not be missed and Georgetown a great shopping, eating and historical section.
The Monuments were amazing. The Smithsonian Museums are mostly free and well thought out and displayed.
I was however very disappointed by the American History Museum, it has the potential to show / display so much more. We spent hours in the Crime & Punishment Museum and really only tired of reading the amazing information.
Its a beautiful country with height restrictions to all buildings thus you can see far from everywhere.
Buildings are so different and beautiful. Clean and wide roads. Shopping by the streets. Can find good buys like those from New York. Friendly service staffs everywhere. Weather is hot in this Sept and the sun is hot too but dry. Metro has escalators everywhere unlike New York subway, lots of climbing. Beautiful place. Worth a visit despite the long gruelling distance .
This city is full of museums and galleries. People of Washington D.C. are super friendly and very kind.
This city is great for people who are interested in museums and history.
Washington D.C. is the perfect place to go if one wants to walk down historylane; learn about the U.S.
Government, culture, arts and sciences. Sometimes it is good for tourists to take time out from all the shopping and really gain something intellectual and educational from their trip. As I have already given so many tips above, I will just add a few that I haven't mentioned yet: Georgetown is a beautiful place; don't miss it! The high-end shops are not in buildings but lined on cobblestoned streets! Don't expect any establishment to be open on Christmas day, you will be constrained to eat at Chinatown, which was the only place open for business. But in fairness, the experience was quite good too! Lastly, if you are a meatlover, try the Hill Country Barbecue restaurant. It also has a branch in New York but the one in DC serves far more delicious food.
it is a place full of history the museum are great and for free and the white house is a must to see
It is a beautiful city with many open spaces and places to walk and relax while taking in the sights.
a nice place for relaxation, all attractions are close to each other, and can be reached via walking
a very nice and clean city with a lot of historical buildings and monuments. beautiful public parks.
