Wengen is a small town on the foot of the mountains in the Alps. It's still accessible by the Swiss Rail Pass, especially if you plan to take the Jungfrau train up the next day.
Local residents are not especially friendly to tourists. Gorgeous scenery, wonderful hikes!! Easy access to everything there is to offer in the area.
While researching the trip I had a very difficult time deciding between Wengen, Murren, Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, etc.
I could not have chosen better - enough in the town to not be completely isolated and without food or shopping choices, but a cozy, quiet, traffic-less mountain town with amazing hikes, views, and people. Will definitely be back. Love summer/fall and want to come during ski season as well.
