Traveler impressions of Wuzhen
Scenic area is beautiful and full of charm. Very busy with tourists though. West is restored more commercial but no less charming and pretty.
East is preserved and ancient and just that bit more authentic and peaceful. Its the opposite of Shanghai so worth a visit if you are in the area to see the contrast
Wuzhen gets uncomfortably warm & unbearingly humid in Summer. Best time is Spring or Autumn. Wuzhen water town is divided into 2 parts: East scenic area (smaller, older looking but more authentic) and West scenic (larger, more touristy)area.
Best to buy combined East & West entry tickets at RMB 150 (valid for 1 day only). Suggested itinerary: Best to visit East Area first, at 7.20am (when it opens) before being overwhelmed by the Chinese tourists who came in the thousands (one busload after another). Allow 3 hours leisurely stroll. Lunch OUTSIDE (cheaper). Try Hongshou lamb at Xiang Xiang Restaurant at 40, Guan Hou Street (a block north of East entrance). Rest in hotel. Vist West Area around 3 pm and stay till 9pm to enjoy the village lit up at night - fantastic scenery.
I went there during the long Chinese New Year holiday, everywhere is filled with a crowd. The old town is really beautiful no matter in day-time or night-time.
If you a lover of photo taking, you may spend a whole day here. Unfortunately, it's raining all the day.
Wuzhen is an historic town, canals and waterways everywhere. There are 2 historic sections of town that have been preserved and are both worth visiting, particularly the western section.
We spent the whole day wandering around, good food, great local crafts in action,
A rural town striving on tourism of the water village. A taste of old China living. Water villages are worth visiting though entrance is quite expensive 120rmb for west n 150 for both East n West per day West village is good enough and need a whole day into the night to enjoy.
A morning stroll to outside part of the east village which is free.
Wuzhen has a very natural village view: the river, the boat, the trees, the people, the houses, makes us forget about the life in the city.
It's very suitable for any ages of people, great for photographer. If I have a chance, I would definitely go back there again.
