    as basic as imaginable”
I came from Bali. Timor is expensive - you expect that. But US$40 for a simple room with cold outside shower, in a very messy environment was a long way down the scale. The owner told me that the economy & wages are low. So why the 1st world prices? If you want to save every penny then stay here. If you have extra money spend it on a better place. Better still, don't visit Timor unless you need to.
