The biggest & cheapest hostel”
Perfect location & super cheap. The biggest & cheapest hostel in Melbourne CBD. Near to Queen Victoria Market, supermatket, Free Tram Zone & Melbourne Central Station. Have a big kitchen & laudry room on each floor. Only 1 public bathroom/restroom on each floor, so if you stay in 16 mixed dorm, will have the fight everyday to use the private bathroom/restroom on your own dorm.

Recommend for a couple of days”
There are many people living for a long period, some of them working in construction and their clothes and boots are so smelly. The place doesn't have any amenities except for the laundry (that you have to pay of course)
DO NOT STAY HERE.. ”
STAFF ARE RUDE AND HAVE DISGUSTING MANNERS.. THE SECURITY ARE THE WORST I HAVE EXPERIENCE ED AT ANY HOSTEL AND THREATEN EVERYONE WHO STAYS THERE.. THERE ARE BED BUGS.. NO TV.. NO LOUNGE.. IT IS A VERY BAD HOSTEL.. DO NOT STAY HERE.. IT IS SHOCKING..
Very bad hostel ”
They are renovating the hostel , so they put all customer in small room and the bed so close to each other, we live like a refugees camp, I can't believe how bad they serve their customers......please beware of this hostel Terrible
Highly recommend for guest with small budget
nice place to meet with new people”
I stayed there many times on my many Australia trips. This place is one of the cheapest in decent hotels without crack heads. Main area has Wi-fi, otherwise you have to buy for you to use in ur room. It's close to everywhere, there is a bar downstairs where you can play pool and drink affordably. There is an Aldi Market only 2 mins by walking which is awesome. Kitchen is with full of facilities and it's big so you can cook without waiting for other people.
Overall it's great! just a few more things to highlight”
I enjoyed staying here, perfect location, near tram & train station. Near to Queen Vic market as well. Just that they don't have a free storage, so if you arrive before check in time, you would have to wait until 2pm to check in your luggage in the room, or pay 8AUD for 8hours storage, so you can go out leaving your luggage in the hostel. But the whole hostel looks awesome! Really love the vibe. Staffs can be more friendly :)
Good location and a good place to sleep and go ”
It was a nice 3 nights stay at Discovery Melbourne. The staffs were excellent and the location is something else and most importantly breakfast is included and tours are available at the reception if you're keen to join the tour. The cleanliness was fine and the location is just really close to some good spots in Melbourne. Definitely recommended motel!
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Its great to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Discovery Melbourne.
Friendly boss - service with a personal touch”
warm welcome by the boss who's very helpful and provided us information about the area. comfortable motel with own balcony and parking space as what's shown in the photos. there's a small pantry area with free complimentary coffee/tea on the house. we were also provided with free wifi for our stay. the place is very clean, quiet and would recommend it to anyone who wants to stay near the 12 apostles.
good location, common areas bit busy/crowded”
stayed on the first floor in 4b room, unlike ground floor common areas the first floor felt somehow quiet and empty, the toilets and showers were bit oldish but clean, room was ok size, a little noise from the street, but that depends on the location of your window I guess, bottom line great value for the money
Good location n breakfast is a bonus”
I enjoying the night there. Just take a rest there n charge energy for the next day to sightseeing The staffs always ready to help Breakfast is a bonus If u want to meet new people around the world n be a five minutes talk or more than that...this is a good chance
Price is alright, location is alright and staff is super nice. Reception very overcrowded and common areas (sitting area next to kitchen) need more cleaning. Biggest issue; only 1 toilet in an 18-bed dorm means waiting a lot to go to the toilet or to brush your teeth, impossible to leave early if you have to!
WiFi is $5 per day after the first few hours. No locking storage is offered Anywhere on the premises, and front desk staff told us the unlocked luggage room has had "incidents" lately where all luggage was stolen. Very loud, not clean. The building smells like a dirty frat house. Forced checkout between extensions for many hours with no place to keep your things. Had some great front desk staff, and some truly awful ones. Don't come here unless you're looking for the bare minimum of a party hostel.
Cheap and busy”
Cheap but you have to cue 1 hour for the check in. In some rooms you don’t have hot water for the shower... Air conditioning, it could be nice, but zhen people put AC in the night, you woke up freezing... cheap, and well located.
Very unprofessional & FALSE ADVERTISMENT!”
All the pictures are FALSE advertisment, it looks nothing like it, the nice areas on the pictures doesn't even exist!! This hostel is undergoing a lot of renovations (the whole hostel at once) which makes it feel like you're living on a construction site. You'd think they can at least put this information out on their website or something so that people know it before coming here, but no. "The rooftop" they're so proud if is just a pale, empty area on top of the hostel with not even a bench to sit on. Loud construction work going on outside every morning waking you up. Also the housekeeping came in every morning turning the lights on, slamming the door (when they didn't leave it fully open!) and talking loud, not even thinking about that people were actually sleeping, not nice at all. There is one bathroom in each room, which is good. But except from that they only have ONE toilet on each floor which it's really obvious they don't even clean since it's water all over the floor, no paper, smelling really bad, etc. Check-in was the slowest I've ever seen. Only one person working and it took like 20 minutes for ONE guest to be checked in, the line was all the way out on the street. I understand that they need to do some renovations of the place, but they're handling it really bad with guests and everything at the same time. It seems like all they care about is money, they don't care if the guests are uncomfortable living in a dirty mess. They clearly don't know how to run a hostel. Don't waste your money here, it's not worth it!
Uncomfortable and dirty”
This hostel only care about money and not about their guests. Stayed in 2 different rooms, first a 10-bed on the 2nd floor, the room was good and big enough for everyone to have their space. Then one day they just randomly put up a note on the wall that the whole 2nd floor was gonna be occupied for group bookings so EVERYBODY already in there had to change rooms. Nobody even told us about it, they just put up a note and hoped everyone would see it?? So rude and not convenient at all, really annoying! The second 10-bed I stayed in was so small you could barely move between the beds, looked like they just pushed in as many beds as they could in the room without even thinking about that people were actully gonna live in there. The kitchen was disgusting 24/7, they only had single use plastic forks and knives and I really don't understand why, such a waste of plastic! The location was the only good thing, close to trams and shops.
Ill give the place my condolences ”
Unfortunate timing to move to Melbourne .. decided to stay at Discovery Melbourne as was one of the cheapest in town with some attractive reviews.. As mentioned the timing was bad as Discovery was undergoing some renovations which caused a bit of mayhem. I don't know when they are due to be completed? Guests staying on 4th floor must take elevator which takes ages and creates queues - Staff try their best given facilities - only 1-2 people at a desk with over 200+ guests Not very spacious in dorm rooms, my power outlet wasn't working so felt awkward and apologetic using somebody-else's. constantly walking over mess and food in room :( Unfortunately this type of hostel attracts the scum of the earth category of guests- No obedience for the rules with noise/alcohol on premises/general courtesy Constantly had food stolen, people sleeping on the couches in common room lobby. + positive .. Cheaper than most, good location
I stayed here for 2 nights in 2 different rooms. The first night the room was ok, it had just been reno’d so it was nice and clean. Waited in line for an hour and a half to check in. The second day I got there early so I wouldn’t have to wait but the room was disgusting. Stank and people’s stuff was thrown everywhere. The bathroom had obviously not been cleaned in a long time, the shower was in the bathroom but with no separation so the floor was super wet the whole time and there was nowhere to hang your towel and the bathroom door had no lock. I also really didn’t like that there are no lockers.
Comfort place to stay”
Love the environment. Staff and services so perfect. AWESOME.
