Very good location to see elephants”
Went with family (3 kids). Very good location to see elephants all along the day, while staying in the swimming pool. Otherwise this is an average acceptable good hotel.

Very good hotel for elephant lovers !”
Nicely located near elephant orphanage, elephant bathes besides the pool of this hotel, nice bar and restaurant, beautifully lit outside. Inside rooms, facilities are not much, just to sleep is fine, bathroom stinks, is the main problem I faced, but they said they gonna renovate the entire rooms in couple of months time.

Be aware ”
When we arrived the hotel did not have the type of rooms we booked available. We were not give the river view we had paid premium price for but instead a room that looked over the breakfast area. Also they refused to honor the price we had confirmed with Agoda, saying that they were not using Agoda anymore. It is was disappointing and frustrating.

Great Place with a Great View”
We stayed in a Superior Room with River View. We could see the river from our room itself. It was a great view. Room was clean . Staff was friendly. Food was really good . I cannot understand why the guests cannot check-in without buying the tickets to the E.Orphanage. Is this hotel a business associate of the E.Orphanage? Shantha from Sri Lanka.

Great view of the river to see elephants bathing”
The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are clean and the bathrooms are great. The hotel is located on the property of the Pinnawala elephant orphanage so you will see elephants bathing in the river in the day. In the evening the area is very quiet so there aren't lots of dining or activity options. The beds are comfortable to sleep in and the area is beautiful so certainly worth staying for a night or two.

Can not recommend this hotel!”
1:Very dirty floors, stairs, rooms and bathroom. 2:Roof leaking. 3:Staff did'nt speak english. 4:Flies in breakfast, clumping milk & not much left after 30 min. 5: No internet working. 6: Stairs all over (not for elderly or handicapped). 7: Doors did'nt function. 8: Linnen in bed stiff as paper & smelled bad. 9: Tv so far from bed, that it's impossible to watch. 10: No smiling staff. 11: Dinner not served at the same time as your familymembers. 12: Furniture broken. 13: Juice, water & etc duble the price of expensive hotels! Elephants bathing near the hotels next door & not close to this one. Not your money worth!

elephants from the balcony”
Fantastic 2 day stay. Brilliant view from our room, number 128. Long walk up steps but well worth the effort with views up and down the river and at washing time for the elephants. Food of reasonable standard but we came to see the elephants. Staff very helpful. Take care on check in times as you pay 2500 rupees for your day pass to see the elephants on that day only. The sanctuary village closes after 4pm but the hotels are worth a visit along the river. Great souvenirs can be purchased which are made from elephant pooh!!!

WOW!”
What a view of the elephants in the river! A totally new experience and a once in a lifetime experience too! My toddler enjoyed sitting for 2 hours on the balcony to watch the elephants in the river...we had an executive suite in the new part of the hotel. The staff did make efforts to please us after a few complaints - no fridge and suddenly one appeared; hair dryer, no problem - got one in a jiffy! Need extra towels and blankets - no english but just point and show what you need and its in your hands in a few minutes! Needed ice to nurse a sore wrist - no worries got an extra towel and a bucket of ice! Door to bathroom was stuck - no worries - carpenter on call! Hot water all the time. A/C perfect and in working order too...restaurant is huge and clear view of the river and ample space to choose on where to sit etc...you do have to share some of your food with the local crows though! Food was awesome and support staff are awesome. Hotel is privately owned and was visited by the owner and assured every effort will be made to ensure our stay was comfortable - a promise that was well kept. Just a word of advice do not check in between 2pm and 4pm...the government charges 2400LR for viewing the elephants bathing - rather arrange with the hotel to check in before 2pm or get there and have lunch at the large restaurant with an awesome buffet! Located within walking distance to the elephant orphanage and local souvenier shops. Poo paper shop and factory just around the corner is also owned by the hotel - a must visit too...DEFINTELY STAYING AT THIS HOTEL AGAIN ON OUR VISITS TO SRI LANKA!

Hotel food rates were way too high. A bit of maintenance and cleaning could uplift the overall standard of the hotel. The balcony view from room was very nice.

For the elephants”
Ok rooms, good for elaphants - the other big elephant hotel is placed even better. Dirty surroundings in the hotel, but we were there for the elephants and that is a big experience - you have to walk through a small alley to get there and see them when they come through the street towards the water. The restaurant was horrible, Took us half an hour to order, cause they didn't have half of the menu, waited another half hour on our drinks and another half an hour on the food!! The food was terrible and obviously from yesterday - and we were the only ones in the restaurant!! In the morning the same waiter had set the table for five persons - we are six; had to explain to him, that we still have 4 kids here the day after and they would all like breakfast!! Had even paid extra for the two small kids, even though sleeping in our bed. They got their breakfast 😊 Go there for the elephants and nothing else

Book for location only ”
Location location location
We stayed here only for one evening whilst we visited the elephant sanctuary. It's a very basic but clean hotel and was a perfect location so good in this respect. However be prepared to put up with extremely unhelpful staff, some rude and basic food standards. On this occasion we tried to book a taxi to our next destination via the hotel and they significantly over quoted. When highlighting this they simply found it highly amusing as if acceptable.

Unbeatable value for fabulous location”
View from our balcony and restaurant was amazing.. Incredibly reAsonably priced rooms. Friendly and helpful staff.
This is an unpretentious, spacious, clean and fairly basic hotel right on the banks of the river close to the Elephant orphanage. If you are there between 10 and 12 or 2 to 4pm you can touch and feed the elephants who are brought to the river to bathe. Thus saving yourself the high entry fee the orphanage charges to visitors (more than the price of a double room for 2!). There are wonderful views over the river from most rooms and restaurant/bar/terraces and some tourist shops 2 mins walk away. Perfect for a night or 2 while touring the island. 2 hours drive from airport, we chose to stay here to avoid the hassle and cost of a night in Colombo before flying home. Best value hotel by far on our trip.

View is the ONLY wonderful thing about this hotel”
The view, the elephants, location
Arrived at the hotel after checking our booking before getting into the alley!! arriving at the hotel the view was thrilling by the wonderful river!! we talked to The staff, who do not speak good English, we have booked for 3 rooms, we asked for extra beds and breakfast for 8 and they asked for payment immediately!!and were given a hand written bill!!! after payment 2 rooms had the river view, one had the parking view!!!asked for another room, they refused and were very rude to us including the reception manager, spoke in their language and ironically laughing with glances. the real boss was the luggage man, who was interfering with the issue. they finally gave us a near (NO VIEW AT ALL) room NOT EVEN A WINDOW FOR AIR!!! we took it! we could hear the other rooms noise from everywhere, there was NO privacy at all. bathrooms were awful, need renovating, no curtains for shower and towels were dirty. the bathroom door was broken, hose was leaking. the breakfast could be better than that. pillows and mattresses were uncomfortable. curtains were broken, no blankets only a thin sheet like thing to use like a blanket.took us half an hour to discover that the light switch is behind the small extra bed which is available in all the rooms at this hotel!! I do not recommend this particular hotel for those seeking comfort and luxurious stay. maybe other hotels in the area are better than that one.
