Welcoming although dated.”
Our stay was good. The decor in our unit was dated and tired and what was in the kitchen was minimal however our request for other items was met promptly. My comment on food is the middle as we did not eat there. Given the value for money I would prefer the value rather than an update. The staff were absolutely brilliant, very professional and helpful and friendly. I would definitely go back.
big room and very clean”
We love the size of the room, its huge, very comfy bed and pillows. Sofa is also a pull out bed so it me, my sister and my friend dont have to share the king size bed. The hotel is easy to find, it is not a walking distance to the city centre, it takes around 20 minutes walking. Easy to find food around at night or snacks. Overall I would recommend to stay at this hotel, very satisfied big room for 4 people to stay in.
Rydges in Hobart, Tasmania”
Our next trips will have Rydges on our list of hotels. Situated on Argyle St., you can walk South to the harbor and all the establishments and tourist spots in about 20 minutes. The Post Office and bus terminal are right on the town corner and the buses are reasonable and will take you to most attractions. A taxi driver named "Steve" will provide a tour service at a reasonable price - $40 an hour. He picked us up at our hotel, took us to see everything we could not see by bus and then took us to the airport! 2-3 hours and you can see quit a bit and save on the heavy tourist prices.
We had a great experience at this hotel. Staff were very helpful letting us store luggage for a few extra days. Definitely a little dated but perfectly adequate for the price. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment style room which was quite large and roomy. We paid a reasonable price which included breakfast - continental was good/average, the full breakfast menu however was surprisingly good! Location is right around the corner from North Hobart Elizabeth St shops - State Theater cinema is great and a few good cafes. Also recommend the Tequila bar! Follow the road down and after a solid but easy 30 min walk you'll be right in the heart of town. We would stay again.
Hi Evelyn, Thank you for your great review on Rydges Hobart. Glad you had a nice stay and enjoyed the surroundings on offer in North Hobart. Many Thanks Catherine
Great location, Excellent Value for Money”
Hadn't stayed here for 20 years. Nothing has changed. Rooms are dated but clean. They are about to start renovations for a new modern look. Service in the restaurant was not very good. Had to wait a long time for my meal and then only got my drink half way through the meal. The food was very good though. I was charged twice for my meal on checking out. I would recommend Rydges to my friends.
Thanks for being so loyal and we cant wait to show you our new hotel. after renovations.
The Staff Make This Hotel”
The staff here are wonderful, helpful and friendly. This hotel is in a beautiful old building and some of the rooms are due for a makeover but the position is great for North Hobart restaurants and is just a nice easy 30min walk to Salamanca Bay.
The reception and dining room staff were great. They had an excellent knowledge of attractions in Hobart. The staff member who made up our room each day need training in bed making. The bed spread and top sheet was good in that they had been straightened and retucked. The bottom sheet was left in the same condition as it was after we had slept the night in the beds ie it was rumpled and loose.
Lovely hotel in Hobart. Some reviews have really knocked the Rydges but I found it be comfortable, quiet and good value. I do agree that a renovation is due and the room staff were not exactly attentive to details (bed not made after first night) but all in all a nice place to stay. Only real downside for me was the lack of reasonable dining and a supermarket within walking distance.
It was ok except for the loud plumbing noise from adjoining rooms ( it woke us up), also we suggest that a less aggressive notice re washing up ( We will charge you!) in the kitchenette may be more appropriate for visitors to our state
Lovely hotel and very clean .”
My husband and I stayed in the self contained apartments and we were very impressed with the size of the rooms. It was very clean and quiet. It was great to have a stove to cook on and a good size fridge to keep our food in.We also liked how the rooms were done in an older style decor. The bed was very comfortable. The only item I have to complain about was the toilet paper. We stayed at 10 apartments while we were in Tasmania and only one apartment had good toilet paper.I find this important.
Fantastic view and Large room hotel!!!”
I have never imagined that the room are divided into a living room and a bedroom. It is really big for us only two couples! The utensils are adequate. We could cook ourselves in the room. I highly recommend you to reside in this hotel. It would give you an unforgettable memory of your travelling!
Great hotel! ”
Our stay at the Rydges was brilliant for relaxing, we had sky TV in our room, a bath, 2 bedrooms, a pool downstairs that only me and my boyfriend used, it was a lovely quite stay and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I would definitely go back, they also offer room service and a laundry service, also you can was your own clothes as there is a wash room, only need a few dollars for washing powder!
Pleasant, but somewhat eccentric hotel.”
The room was huge, as it was effectively an apartment. We had a completely separate longe room. The kitchenette was great. Reasonable sized bar fridge, a microwave oven & plenty of crockery & cutlery. The Reception is in a separate building, which is marginally inconvenient, with Hobart's inclement weather. Nice place. Pleasant staff. Good location. Would stay there again.
Great location and friendly straff”
This is a very old hotel but clean. Is a big studio room with cooking facilities and big bathroom. The curtain is totally out of shape but still can cover-up the windows and door. Remember to mention if stay with oldie because no lift facility. Just 10 min. drive to Hobart CBD and easily access to other place of attraction. Airport is also nearby only 20 min. drive.
Very comfortable room - staff friendly, helpful”
we enjoyed our 4 days at rydges - but found the dining room disorganised - food was fine, but poor, and expensive wine list, and even on ordering the wine, it was unavailable, and no byo allowed. we did not eat there again. otherwise, as long as you have a car, it is near lots of restaurants, and in a handy location.
Great location and only five minutes to the city”
The room was overlooking north Hobart Football oval which then gave a great view to the city and the harbour. Our unit was quite large and very comfortable The kingsize bed gave a wonderfully comfortable nights sleep after each days touring . The staff were courteous and very helpful whenever a need arose, good value for money.
Old world hotel, good dining, excellent staff.”
Food was very good. Dining room staff friendly and efficient. Need to improve process of passing on phone messages. Some minor maintenance required. Change of hairdryer to one that doesn't keep stopping...most frustrating. Take your own.
Lovely hotel and good service”
It's amazing to find such a good place in such a beautiful harbour and it's a big surprise to have a kitch ensuite. The location is very close to the city center and the staff are very kind and friendly, always with a smile. Our members really enjoy the stay in this hotel.
Lovely Hotel, staff friendly, efficient , helpful”
rydges was very clean, the room was comfortable and warm with plenty of light. information provided in the room was helpful and thorough. all of the staff i encountered were very polite and helpful offering advice but not encroaching into personal areas.location was wonderful within walking distance to north hobart restaurant strip, whilst also offering an in house restaurant and room service.
Hit and Miss”
The buildings have great character and the location with its views is great. Staff were very helpful and friendly as you would expect. The only disappointing aspect for us was the cleanliness and facilities in the room. The room itself is large and well fitted but lacks common utilities ie. toaster, plates, knifes, forks etc. There is a microwave but nothing else. We also were disappointed with the daily housekeeping, the bed top cover was only ever pulled up and tucked in, the bottom sheet left crumpled. It’s these small details that cast a disappointing shadow over the stay. Get those things right and we would have no complaints at all. One other suggestion would be to put a second TV in the front lounge. It seemed a wasted and under-utilised room.
Free Wi-Fi in all rooms!
