Having recently stayed at the Art Series Hotel The Cullen in South Yarra, I was very interested to experience The Olsen. While the former seems to be experiencing some new hotel service challenges, The Olsen seems to have hit the ground running. The service was very professional and guest focussed. In particular, the front desk was very helpful in finding me a room with a bath in a time of limited availability. (Only 1 staff member needed to go to attitude rehab which is not a bad hit rate overall. Still, a reminder to the Gen Y front desk that haughtiness has no place in a hotel - and that guests can and do choose to stay elsewhere because of poor attitude - wouldn't go astray.) The room itself was a very comfortable home away from home for 3 days. The deluxe room with bath provided plenty of floor space (more than enough to do a yoga routine), a supremely comfortable bed with quality linens and great pillows (which I was very grateful for when being confined to bed for a day due to illness), a lounge from which to watch the flat screen TV (when not viewing from bed), atmospheric floor to ceiling views up Chapel Street, a dining table and an adequate work desk. On top of this the kitchenette has good facilities for those who prefer to eat simply rather than having dining out all the time. Having said that, the one room-service meal I had was very tasty and generously proportioned. Another great feature of the room and the hotel generally is the art of John Olsen which is simultaneously stimulating and relaxing. Also, the colour palette used throughout the hotel is very complementary to Olsen's work and makes for a soothing stay. And love the aquarium channel! A fantastic feature of The Olsen is the spa Norbu which is located on the mezzanine floor. They fitted me in for some much needed massage and therapeutic treatments without much notice and then, with professionalism and relaxed good humour, proceeded to deal very skilfully with the nasty knots that

I have spent close to 3 months in total staying at Arts Series Hotels, between The Cullen, The Blackman and The Olsen. They are very nice rooms with very comfortable beds and pillows. There's no pool at The Cullen but you are allowed to use the pool at The Olsen which is just down the road in South Yarra.

This is a terrific place to stay. Close to everything including lovely restaurants, supermarkets, wine shops, the South Yarra train station and walking distance to Chapel Street and all the shopping it has to offer. Yeah, the apartment was a bit tired and could use some investment, eg. holes in the carpet, but the bed was very comfortable, it came with a spacious deck, everything was clean and the staff were both helpful and an absolute delight to deal with. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit. This is a great location for people visiting Melbourne and we'd recommend staying in South Yarra rather than in the CBD, no question.

The Lyall is a terrific small hotel down a leafy side street in South Yarra. Well located for parks, food/drink and shopping. Hotel staff super helpful, Nathan in a particular had a lot of good advice. We didn't get a chance to try out the spa services.

we loved the claremont guest house. it is a little out of melbourne centre in the very nice neighbourhood of south yarra. connections back into the centre by train were frequent and fast and the hotel is only a 2 minute walk from the station. this is more of a hostel than a hotel, but given the expensive prices of hostels generally in australia we felt this one was very good value. our room was huge, the communal bathrooms looked newly decorated and were very clean and the breakfast was certainly above average, offering choices of breads, cereals (first time i've seen special k in a hostel!) and tinned fruits - as much as you wanted. the staff were very nice, offering us suggestions on places to go and we could leave our bags securely on the day we checked out until we were ready to get them. the hotel is in a historic building, so some of the room features are older, but we felt in a way that added character rather than being run down. an excellent budget option in melbourne.

Excellent hotel in a very nice suburb South Yarra. Good public transport to the inner city and to the coast. Friendly staff. And Melbourne is a very nice city too.

the hotel is located right behind the south yarra train station which will take you to pretty much anywhere you need to go with the combination of train and tram. the staff were very friendly. rooms are new, modern, clean and provided fully equipped kitchen, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, washing machine and dryer. there is a 7-11 right on the corner from the hotel, right next to the train station, an iga supermarket just 3 min walk from the hotel. only a 5 min walk to the chapel streel which is great for shopping. overall it was a very nice stay at punthill south yarra, would stay there again but hope they'll improve the internet quality

I asrrived early on a Fri morning, the receptionist informed me of normal check in time but said he would see if there was a room ready, there was and I was in my room by 10.30. It's very new and modern, I was only on the 3rd floor but they have very heavy double glazed windows and it was so quiet at night and I was facing the railway platforms of South Yarra Station, the kitchen was well equipped and I loved the space in the bathroom with a great walk in shower with good hotwater, the bed was a little firm but it would have been better if I had my own pillow with me. I was in Melbourne to visit fiends who live in Richmond so it was an eastram ride down Chapel street to Richmond and there are the trams that run down Toorak road that will take you into the city centre at Flinders street station. If the rates stay reasonable I will choose here over inner city, the rates in town were higher this week due to all of the events taking place, so this was a good find.

I travel to Melbourne regularly to visit relatives and have stayed in quite a few different places. Apartments of South Yarra were a delightful surprise. The inside was spacious,clean, comfortable, and very well equipped. The little touches like coffee sachets and shortbread biscuits were lovely. I found a generous supply of personal items added to a comfortable stay. The position in the heart of South Yarra was excellent and even though there is parking available, I could walk everywhere or catch public transport which was very convenient. I will stay there again.

situated in South Yarra, guests can take a train to town. Tram is also in front of the train station. Parking at the property is charged at 10 AUD per day as advertised. We loved the location as it is quiet and we often drove out of the city. My family got an apartment on the 2nd floor. Lower floor unit was not available on our check-in day. There are no lifts. I personally found it difficult as I was the only male adult and hence had to carry all the luggage :) The apartments are newly renovated. Looked really good and was clean. All facilities were there as advertised. Dryer was made available upon request due to the limited space. Netflix and good internet connection were a plus. We even extended one more night . Staff were amazing.

the albany hotel is not a very huge hotel but it is comfortable enough for a short stay especially for visitor of vacation. it is in very good condition for all facilities. the receptionists are very helpful with great and friendly smile. the hotel is situated in south yarra but it is not far from city. there is tram station within walking distance from hotel. the tram service is very frequent and it takes only few stations to reach city directly. there is tram service within south yarra too! yeah, it is a good hotel to be recommended.

Great location close to shops, restaurants & transport but as right opposite the railway track the train noise does wake you up very early - but as I knew the location I took ear plugs. Have stayed several similar apartment & hotel properties close by before in Claremont Street & Chapel street South Yarra where you also hear the train & tram noise - it's a shame properties in such locations in Melbourne don't get double glazing on the windows because it would make a huge difference to guests. Bed & bedding very comfortable & place was spotlessly clean. Should provide free internet/wifi for guests & not charge. For international visitors Australia's overall lack of free internet/wifi is pretty annoying & backwards. I travel regularly worldwide & can't think of any other country I've been where a hotel/serviced apartment charges guests for internet/wifi it's so unusual these days - so walk 5 minutes to Prahran Central on corner of Chapel/Commercial for free wifi.

Very enjoyable , friendly owners. , clean, lovely decor in rooms, punt road noisy but we live in the country and are used to the sound of the sea'! A privilege to stay in such a beautiful home and central to trams , chapel street . Free parking and breakfast was a bonus
