Set in the treetops of the jungle, this resort is picturesque and full of old Bali charm. The staff have been super friendly and helpful. The room is comfortable, and the bathroom is clean and prettily adorned by flowers. The transfers into Ubud central are available at any time during business hours. I was pleased they were able to take me just down the road for an appointment, too. Quiet, relaxing and a top place to stay. Not keen on the pricing of the restaurant/room service as it's in USD$ and generally about 50% higher than what you'd pay anywhere else in the area.
Excellent place to stay within a forest area. Though a 15 minute drive from Ubud center, the serene surrounding totally make it worth it. The hotel owner Mr. Peter's a lovely guy to talk to and his art collection (you'll be taken on a guided tour) is grand and left me amazed. The staff are hospitable and I'd certainly recommend this place to anyone wanting to explore Ubud.
The studio unit where we stayed was so clean and huge, i can stay there all day - it is quiet and is so relaxing! Fresh air and the beautiful sceneries are just unforgettable! Yes, there are mosquitoes outside during nighttime but that doesnt turned me off! home away from home! By the way, the staffs ate very friendly! their smiles are contagious. ☺️ Terima Kasih Tanah Merah!
Perfect spot for a quiet retreat!”
Fantastic Hotel, beautiful architecture integrated on the natural landscape. Very quiet and reserved, few villas with large areas, lots of art work within and outside of the villas. Although placed in the "wild" nature, close enough to Ubud for a 10 minute ride on a scooter for dinner or a walk. Hotel have their own car/transportation as well. One of the best stays ever!
Gorgeous art filled with treasures great service”
great massage therapy, quiet pool and dining areas filled with beauty new villas under construction, a bit noisy but only during the day nice ride from ubud 7 mins by taxi about $5 to 7 USD or catch a ride to the town free with shuttle schedule is really accommodating great studio room with nice copper bath tub owner is a dutch dentist very friendly all service staff were friendly and personable the art collection is amazing and a super bonus!
Nice resort up in the hills just east of Ubud”
we stayed in a timor style cottage with big private bathroom. room was nice and romantic, but also bit outdoors. no aircon and you need to get used to the geckos running around at night. the location and surrounding area is beautiful. we especially liked the staff. they were friendly and cheerful. the owner has an amazing collection of local and other asian artifacts. a reason on it's own to visit the resort. the food is good and safe. overall a very nice getaway just east of ubud.
Ubud as it was in the day”
We liked it. It made us smile. Peaceful setting, comfy beds, pleasant staff.
surely it's not five star hotel”
what category makes this hotel called five star ?? less facility, very simple room, furniture & pooll.. the staff serve just like a melati hotel.. finally I decide to leave this hotel & searching the other.. I had waste my money & time
good place for absolute relaxation”
we were there the 3rd time over the past 5 years and still love the place. The staff were very helpful and friendly, breakfast and restaurant food is excellent, the complimentary shuttle to Ubud a bonus and the Gallery is definitely worth visiting. we still found the real Bali experience at Tanah Merah.
We loved our stay! The staff is amazing and the grounds are beautiful. We had the one bedroom pool villa and loved how big it was, and all the food on the property. Definitely have to be used to animals and jungle life, but definitely worth it.
Had to change flights. Quick choice, but very happy. Room was great. Staff were great.. Wild monkeys paid a visit. Nice size resort. Gallery definitely worth the time to visit. Very likely to visit again.
Amazing place! ”
The setting beside a river gorge is stunning. Each room is different and personally decorated by the owner who is an art and antiquities collector. Peter has a large collection of antiques and art on display and for sale. You must experience this place to believe it!
Truely beautiful, Couldn't recommend enough!”
The sheer beauty of the hotel and it's surroundings is unbeatable in Ubud. We stayed in the cheapest option as we were travelling around Bali and this was our first stop, but that still gave us our own private cottage which had a huge hot tub in the bathroom also over looked the infinity pool so we didn't have to stroll far for a quick dip! The other villas to rent here are incredible with their own private pools over looking the jungle. The hotel itself is a bit further away from the main part of Ubud, the famous monkey forest road but nothing a quick cab journey for 70,000rp can't manage. The on site art collections and museum belonging to the hotel owner are something you MUST see when visiting this hotel! Rooms bulging with Indonesian artifacts, art, furniture, collectors items going back thousands of years! Truely amazing and inspiring place of art, culture and peace.
It was all to ourselves”
If you want to spend time and enjoy Ubud this is a good place, a bit far from the shopping area near Jl Ubud but its ok. There was no one when we checked in but the staff still accommodated us well. :)
Unforgettable stay at Tanah Merah Resort”
We absolutely loved the Tanah Merah Resort! We stayed in the Mads Lange Villa, which has a private pool, jacuzzi and incredible views of the jungle. The owner, Peter, and the entire staff are so friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious and the entire resort is so beautiful that we had a hard time leaving. The location was perfect - about a 15 minute drive through the rice paddies from central Ubud. Highly suggest staying here.
Far from the madding crowd”
As mentioned above we found the hotel to be an oasis away from the hustle and bustle of Ubud. Friends who visited the area 10 years and more ago characterized Ubud as a sleepy backwater. That, unfortunately, no longer seems to be the case and anyone wanting a relaxing time needs to be away from the town itself. This hotel was far enough away to give the relaxing atmosphere but near enough to easily access the town if needed.
Work of Art”
Tanah Merah is more a work of art than a resort. Created in beautiful countryside, each room is different and some are spectacular. Peter, the Damish owner, is extremely hospitable and open. " The Collection" is worth the visits alone. Shuttles on demand to town and a $5 taxi back. If you are an artist and can afford it, it should be on your radar.
Idyllic setting and a unique hotel”
This hotel really is unique with traditional Bali accommodation in a splendid setting. Breakfast looking towards forest beyond a stream in beautifully landscaped grounds. The staff, including the dentist owner, who actually treats patients in his on - site surgery, we're exceptionally friendly and helpful in all arrangements, from airport transfers to guided tours and taxi to the Ubud. I just wish we had the time to see the art gallery and explore the site more fully.
Amazing Stay in Jungle paradise”
Tanah Merah was the best place we stayed while we were in Bali. From the amazing villa we stayed in, to the beautiful pools over looking the rivers everything about this place was incredible. The art gallery on site was beautiful and gave a great history of Bali. The owner and his staff were truly great people and helped make our stay and experience of Ubud something my wife and I will never forget.
Awesome stay here, our group was 2 rooms and 2 couples. This is a very unique hotel that is laid back and relaxed. Great staff, great breakfast. The restaurant was good but a little pricey. The wifi could be improved but a fair sacrifice since you're staying on the side of a mountain outside of town. TIP: load up on snacks and beers for your fridge in the room.
