Close to uluwatu surf and temple”

Really friendly staff with good English and nice happy and helpful attitude

We were worried that it would be too far from the beach and temple. It was a nice walk to both and we were carrying a baby. 15 mins to beach and 20 to temple. This is the only place I dare ride a scooter on the road as they are fairly tame and deserted compared to the rest of Bali. Scooter rentals are just next door for $5US dollars per day if you don't want to walk. The scooters also have surf racks on them if you have your board. They have very little petrol in them but if you run out, just buy a vodka bottle with petrol in it from the many side of the road stands displaying it. The gong was a good deal and satria bungalows is directly across the street down a little dirt road if gong doesn't have enough rooms. My two sisters stayed there. The staff at the hotel were fantastic, smart, talkative and informative. Their English is quite good and the conversation about culture and religion were enlightening. This is a bit hard to find as are most of the bungalows, since there are so many. The room was clean and a mosquito net was provided. The whole bathroom was concrete including the sink. The bed was comfortable.

Nice place for a surfers getaway”

the pool, wifi, great food and easy bike rental.

I chose this place because the price was good and it was located close to Uluwatu. It's really a great location. There's a Mexican food place up the road with a bar. Totally chill. It's close to uluwatu, Padang Padang and Dreamland is not far off. The only place that is really a journey is Balangen, but it's worth the drive. The staff couldn't be nicer :/) it feels like staying in a little community. The rooms are nice. The only negative thing I can say is that there is no hot water but to anyone who has travelled to getaway places this should be no surprise.

KING GONG”

The location. The food. The staff.

Gong was in great location between Ulu Watu beach down the stairs and the temple. Both easily walkable. I even walked to both the east and west (of river) Padang Padang beaches but I can't say I did it with no sweat. The bed was very comfortable, fit for a King. Up the street a few paces from Gong is a great place for high power vegetable (called the "Energizer") and fruit juice concoctions, bullet-style... and surprising to see on the menu board, vegan hummus meals and chips.

Excellent place to stay, close to Uluwatu!”

Service was great, food was tasty and cheap, pool was a nice feature. Cheap motorbike rental

My husband and I stayed for three nights here. Very price effective and the upstairs room was equipted with balcony views of not too far ocean and nice afternoon breezes. Small and clean, hot water wasn't always hot but for the budget traveler this place is excellent. It seemed wifi worked on laptops/ but for some reason not on our iPhone. Quick ten minute walk to uluwatu or rent a bike for cheap and it's only a few minutes away. Uluwatu temple is nearby and a great place to go, 6pm kecak dance not to be missed. Padang Padang a quick ride via bike with lots of warungs along the way, if you want to try somewhere different. Only advice is we stayed in room closest to the restaurant and heard the electrical wires buzz from the street so recommend requesting rooms further away from their restaurant.

Affordable accommodation in a lovely setting”

The staff, the price, the location

I very much enjoyed my stay at The Gong, it is good value for money, and a 10 minute walk to the closest surf. It is a family run hotel, and the staff are very friendly and always willing to help. The hotel is set in a nice area with porches looking into one another with views or the gardens and pools, or outward facing balconies with a sea view. the rooms are basic but clean and maintained well. If you want to stay in Uluwatu I would definitely recommend The Gong.

I stayed at the Hong for 6 days and it was great. The staff was super helpful and very friendly. I only wish they offered air conditioned rooms and room towels. The pool is very nice and clean. Overall I would reccomend others to stay at the Gong while in uluwatu.

Great location for surfing but rooms subpar”

The proximity to the Uluwatu surf break-- perfect for surfers

In general, my stay at the Gong was fine. Highly recommended for surfers planning to surf the Uluwatu surf break-- it's a 8-10 minute walk, or 1-2 minutes by motorscooter. However, I wouldn't recommend this if you are planning to sightsee in other regions of the island, since it's tough to get around from here-- in any case, you will want to rent a motorscooter (but be careful). The staff are very friendly and accommodating, and food is quite good for the prices. There is a nice pool/lounge area for sunbathing and relaxing. However, the rooms were not very impressive-- especially the bathrooms, which seemed very old and in need of better ventilation.

budget accommodation near uluwatu surf breaks”

location, garden

The Gong is a very budget friendly accommodation near to Uluwatu surf breaks. They hire motorbikes which you would need unless you like long hot walks uphill. On a bike it's easy to reach Uluwatu, Padang Padang etc and to get to Uluwatu temple. The room is basic and yes, bathroom smells a bit and lots of tiny ants in room. The mosquito net was very appreciated and there is a great view from the balcony. The pool is good but there is nowhere comfortable to sit in shade whenthe sun is fierce. This is a very cheap hotel and the standard is as expected for the price - if you want luxury you need to pay for it!

A tranquil hotel with Ocean scene

We only had one night in Gong, but were impressed by its charm. We can see Indian Ocean from balcony, and it is a good place to go to Indian Ocean. What is disapointing is that hotel doesn't supply hot water, so we can not have shower in case of having cold.

Good Hotel”

Scene is beautiful

I lived in this hotel for 1 night. The hotel is nice, peaceful and relaxing. The staffs are really polite even though there is no point to always say sorry The location is near Uluwatu Temple and near a very cheap restaurant. One thing that I don't like is with the 200K rp price, there is no hot water shower and breakfast. But it is all the same in Uluwatu area, I don't know why. Generally, staying there is a good experience.

Welcoming and in a beautiful area

We were met with a warm welcome even though we arrived at 2am after our flight was delayed. The room was quite small with an ensuite and a balcony with a stunning view. Bedroom was fine but the bathroom was a bit grubby. We also had to ask for toilet roll and soap. Food and beer is avaliable all day at the front of the hotel and the staff really are lovely. Sadly it was not the best area to eat breakfast as there were were hundreds of flies about. Lovely location away from the main surfer bars at the beach and really close to Uluwatu temple with its astonishing sunset and Kecak fire dance.

Location not amazing if you don't have own vehicle”

pool, breakfast, garden

The hotel is fine and Uluwatu in general is gorgeous but if you don't have your own vehicle it's annoying to get around because you're in the middle of nowhere. It's not particularly close to any beach either but probably the closest to the uluwatu temple. People are friendly as in most places in Bali and the breakfast was nice. However, they wouldn't even call me a cab but instead only get a friend to drive me for 10 times what a cab would cost. At the same time if you're in Uluwatu without your own scooter or car you're lost anyway so Gong is still decent.

Pleasant but basic, staff friendly & VERY relaxed”

Quiet, remote, good food in and around

If you're looking for a place to escape for a few days, hang out without being bothered and keep things simple then look no further. As backpackers, this place was not ideal...we stayed three nights and wanted to see as much as possible in that time. The location is very out of the way, not near much besides the Firedance, which is well worth a look. Even an ATM is a trek away. Staff were nice but were quite tardy, again this meant lost time for us. We had to ask several times for room service/ towels and there was only one person working there who could book a boat to Gili so we had to wait around for a couple of hours one night for her to come back. You don't need to go far for food, the food in The Gong is also fine.

The Gong is worth every dollar.”

price, people, location

I really enjoyed staying here. It felt like a proper road trip, friends together, beach holiday. The staff were super friendly and helpful. I was worried about the cold water BUT the water wasn't really that cold anyway and it was probably better for me when I stepped out of the shower because it was so warm anyway. I will definitely stay here again - there isn't many rooms so I will be disappointed if it gets popular and I can't get a room though.
