Great place to stay in Luang Prabang”

Nice garden, good breakfasts, clean rooms

We stayed at Villa Suan Maak for four nights and really enjoyed it. The staff were friendly, our room was basic, but perfectly fine and clean and the breakfasts were good. lt is surrounded by a lovely garden, somewhat of a haven. We couldn't fault it in any way. Some people might prefer to be closer to the tourist centre of Luang Prabang but it is only a ten minute or so walk and we liked being in a bit of a 'suburb' of this wonderful city as it meant an interesting walk taking in a bit of local life en route. You can also hire bikes from the villa if you'd prefer a quicker trip into town.

Great hotel with warm service.”

Clean, large rooms, and great service.

I booked in to Villa Suan Maak for three days and regret not staying longer, especially with nice Agoda discount. I got a king bed room and there was heaps of room for all my gear (travelling with a lot of camera equipment). The room condition is still good. Only thing that could be better would be the bathroom. Looks a little bit worse for wear. Breakfast included, although this is just standard baguette with jam + butter, eggs, coffee and fruit salad. Owner is lovely and really relaxed. I arrived in the morning in Luang Prabang and turned up at 8:30am and she let me check in so early as my room was already ready. Fantastic service!!

Quaint, simple hotel on the edge of everything”

Breakfast area, friendly staff, quiet neighbourhood

We really enjoyed an extended five day stay in Luang Prabang at Villa Suan Maak. The town is an absolute delight - laid back, pretty, excellent cafes and restaurants and a couple of worthy museums. The hotel itself is situated just south of the main are and is a good ten minute walk to most sights. This was not an issue, however. The standard rooms were small, basic and clean. The ensuite bathroom was very small. The breakfast was lovely and served in a nice patio area out front. We saw a lot of guesthouses nearer all the action but these tended to be a lot more expensive ($30-60 a night). However they were stunning. All in all we found the hotel adequate and a pleasant place to spend the week.

we loved our stay here and viang is a lovely person and hostess. she keeps villa suan maak extremely clean and tidy and all-in-all she runs the place very well. her staff are polite and helpful. breakfasts are adequate and balanced, i.e. fruit, eggs cooked to your liking, warmed baguette and delicious coffee or tea. this is an excellent value for money guesthouse and really not too far from old town. viang rents out bikes which are in very good condition.

Clean and good looking villa. Friendly staff.”

The deluxe rooms were large and beautiful.

we stayed in two different room-types in villa suan maak. the deluxe triple and a first floor room. the deluxe room was easily one of the best rooms we have had on our trip in south east asia. it was big and it felt like staying in an apartment. it was nicely decorated and had a few extra furniture (table with chairs, desk, etc). the small room downstairs was ok for the much cheaper price, but did not have a view of anything (a corridor) and there were not much more space than to fit a couple of beds. there were other first floor rooms that might be bigger and better though. the breakfast was ok, and the staff was friendly and helpful. the villa is a little bit out of town, although it is possible to walk to the city center in 10-15 minutes. the do rent out bicycles which were nice enough, if only a bit small.

A lovely guesthouse in Luang Prabang.”

Service, communal area, price

I stayed at the Villa Suan Maak for a few days after sailing on the slowboat down the Mekong. The guesthouse is a short walk to the centre of LP, and is perfectly safe at anytime. The gentle owner is very helpful and friendly. I had one of the cheaper rooms just off the reception area, the window looks out on the reception area so you keep it curtained all the time - not a problem. The main place to relax is on the big sofas or the massage chairs a lovely quiet haven really. The breakfast is very nice and sets you up for the day. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and recommend this guesthouse.

Good location, very friendly staff,

We had a great stay at Villa Suan Maak. The location is perfect, around the corner from the main street but still very quite and relaxing. The staff was very friendly and helped us to rent motorbikes, washed our clothes and helped us to book a trekking tour which was great. We recommend this place!!

Comfortable, Friendly, Quiet”

Location, Terrace areas, Friendly staff

We were due to be in Luang Prabang for only a few days but found that we loved the town so much we couldn't leave. The staff at the hotel were attentive, helped us to arrange extra nights and even held on to our bags for us when we went on an overnight trek, leaving them in our room for us upon our return. The hotel provides a laundry service with same day return, and this too was often simply waiting for us in our room when it was done. They helped us arrange tuk tuk's to anywhere we needed to go and were generally very accommodating and full of smiles. It's a little out of the way, not directly on the main peninsula where the night market is, but it's no more than a 10 minute walk away, and this makes for a quieter nights sleep, in my opinion, anyway. I would recommend it.

peaceful, nice garden, good breakfast, friendly staff, short walk into town

we had a lovely stay at villa suan maak- it was peaceful without being too far away from town. rooms were nice with aircon and hot water but no tv. there were frequent power cuts but that is common in laos. free computer was a nice bonus. the staff were really friendly too and helped us to book tuk tuks and tours to places we wanted to go. definately good value for money.

room worth no more ”

quiet location, nice grounds, pleasant breakfast

we arrived late at night after a 27 hour bus ride from hanoi so nothing could have disappointed as long as it included a bed, haha. everyone here was very friendly and the rooms were clean. we liked being in a quiet area, although it's not really necessary since luang prabang isn't a very loud town. we enjoyed the pleasant 7-10 minute walk into town each day. breakfast was good: eggs to order, a bowl of fruit, a baguette, and coffee/tea. the grounds of the hotel are also very pleasant. the only drawback to villa suan maak's location is that it seems a farm is located directly behind it. we were awoken every morning at 5 by roosters crowing straight through the early afternoon. not the hotel's fault, but less than enjoyable to wake up to. we liked villa suan maak but after traveling around the area, we'd say it was a bit overpriced. with no tv, shotty wifi, a small room, and very, very small bathroom, it seemed more like a $12 room than an $18. after three days, we found a bigger room with aircon, tv, and fan right in the middle of town.

Great stay”

Couldn't fault this place. It is in a great location, just 5-10 minute walk from the main area of Luang Prabang so nice and quiet. We booked 3 nights, and then extended another 3 due to food poisoning (not from the hotel). The young guy who runs the hotel (Sen I think his name is) was extremely helpful and kind. When I had food poisoning I couldn't leave the hotel to get food and only wanted plain bread. He brought me a tray with a warm baguette, jam, butter, fruit, tea and water. It is this kind of service that sets a hotel apart from others. Breakfast every morning of baguette, jam, tea, fruit and eggs made to order. Wifi was okay. Hotel was clean. Sen also helped us organise a motor bike rental and was so helpful. Would happily stay here again and highly recommend it.

Spacious and clean room, lovely garden, kind staff

There is something special about this guesthouse that matches exactly with the overall atmosphere of this amazing town of Luang Prabang. It is so charming with a beautiful garden in a quiet environment that you will feel at home. The biggest asset of this guesthouse is by far its super kind staff especially its female owner that will do everything to make your stay unforgettable and always here to hep you out if you need any guidance. One of the best places I stayed at in Laos!”

Clean, quiet, pleasantly decorated rooms. Friendly and helpful host. Beautiful garden to enjoy great breakfast (included). Extremely reasonably priced. Centrally located but still quiet and peaceful.

Highly recommend. Tip: be as respectful of the staff as they are of you. They must wait for guests to come home before they can go to bed, and in Lao that means early. By law the curfew is midnight all over Lao, but it shouldn't be hard to make it an early night even if you're a die hard party animal because it's early to bed and early to rise to in Laos. All in all, one of the best places I stayed during my time in Luang Prabang, and very reasonably priced.

Very good and relaxing stay in Luang Prabang”

Quiet, great location, nice buildings

Villa Suan Maak is a nice spot in LP, close enough to historical city center but just away to be quiet. however at this time of the year (winter, chinese new Year) the importance of tourism from CHina may complicate your stay as most of the places are booked by large groups. Very nice place to spend a quiet weekend in LP.

Garden, eating area, breakfast, quiet part of town

This hotel was really lovely. The entrance way with the garden and tables for breakfast felt like quite a posh hotel. The rooms were really nice, well decorated. The bathroom was good too (sometimes the shower would go hotter and colder but it would sort itself out). Also the staff were friendly and helpful. It was definitely one of the better places we stayed in Laos and a lot nicer than Liberty Hotel in Luang Prabang (which we had stayed at a few days afterwards).

Quaint and Very Friendly”

Beautiful grounds, nice old building, nice people

In all fairness, this was a very pleasant place. The rooms are a bit small but if you're in Luang Prabang to tour and only need a place to sleep, it's great. They also have the nicest staff and owners. I just am not the kind of person who likes being around children at all, and we were already travelling in a group with a rambunctious little kid. Also travelling during the Lao New Year didn't make it pleasant as I do not like getting splashed or sprayed on. There were children running in and out of the property, and one of them insisted on spraying me even thought she had been asked very nicely earlier in the day not to do so by my staff (we were travelling together in a group, as mentioned before) so I was forced to move to a hotel that could guarantee I would not have to deal with the presence of children. With that said, this was a nice place, if you just need a room to crash and a scrumptious breakfast before departing for the day on your adventures, and of course can tolerate children...I'd day this would be the place for you. You'll be very pleased with the staff and the owners, the German lady who was there to help take care of her grandkids and her friend was the sweetest people in the world.
