Basic but beautiful place at the beach”
My friend and I really enjoyed our stay at Alofa which in Samoan means love. Natalie is really nice and helpful, she arranged our trips to Mt Yasur and the cultural village which were both amazing! Thanks so much! The food was a little pricy tho I guess it's probably because the lack of materials. Btw, it's said on Agoda that the return airport transfer costs 20 AUD but turned out to be 40 AUD. The manager explained that she forgot to update the info on Agoda which I felt a bit upset. However, all the rest were perfect!

Very isolated ”
The accommodation is lovely but very isolated. There is NOWHERE to go independently except the beach. The 'restaurant' is three tables with 3 meal choices although the food is very good. The location is peaceful and we slept fantastically well. This property is very overpriced but then I quickly learned that everything in Vanuatu is astronomically expensive and you do not get very much for your money.

Close to airport”
The owner, proximity to airport
The owner is a very nice lady named Natalie. She is helpful and always with really nice calm attitude. Property around bungalows is well maintained. Inside, my WC light was flickering. There's no AC but it was ok as Tanna is much cooler than Port Vila. Two fans inside. Breakfast is just very basic. Her trip offers and tours are very expensive. Even ride back to airport (2km) will set you back $20 so make sure you bring at least $500 cash worth of Vatu if you want them to take you to Mt Yasur and back ($200) at least. $100 per person. Overall my view is positive.

Peace and quiet”
The people, the tranquility, the proximity to the beach
Nice family run place, right on the beach. Beautiful gardens. Nice swimming spot nearby. Night sky full of stars. Food was a little bit hit and miss. Rooms are ok, the fans do the job, just. Lots of moths and geckos scampering around. Could do with a bedside lamp. Amazing for peace and quiet.

Great place to unwind”
Staff, food & beach access
After "roughing it" for a few nights at the base of Mt Yasur, staying at Alofa was like being in the lap of luxury with electricity and hot water! :-) You can see the beautiful white sand beach from the bungalow (good swimming area just a short walk down the beach) and the gardens around the grounds are beautifully maintained. Sam and Sabrina and their team took very good care of us in arranging tours, airport transfers, delicious meals and even sharing a few shells of kava! I would definitely recommend Alofa Beach Bungalows to anyone looking for a comfortable budget place to stay on Tanna. It is currently a cash only establishment and there are currently no ATMs on the island so make sure you take enough cash. If you're really strapped for cash, you can swipe your card at Whitegrass Ocean Resort where they'll charge a fee of 10% for the service.
